They are so beautiful! I bet they love their new home.

A koi pond is one of my dreams and I think I can sell my boyfriend on it if I can convince him it will remind him of Japan. He''s half Japanese and although he wasn''t born there he''s been there several times to visit family and he loves it enough to seriously try to talk me into moving there.

And on a side note, I tried to put my shiba in my parents pool and he FREAKED out, so my dog certainly can''t swim

thanks belle

yes, they''re back home.the pond was finish last Nov but, i still need to re-do the sun screen above the pond = more dollars

Marvel....the ones with a perfect round red circle between the eyes are hard to find.and yes, chinese think they''re good luck.

Rhapsody....if i ever go to Japan,i''ll be drooling all over those beautiful kois.
30.gif
the highest quality kois will always remain in japan.you can''t touch a nice 3 yr old for less than $5,000. a nice 4 yr old would be closer to $8-10k.

MZ....the oldest koi on record is 230 yrs old.
6.gif
on the avg
20.gif
they will live 20-22 yrs. if you keep them healthy.

Wait a minute....you are supposed to be saving for my watch DF!

Seriously they look great!

BEAUTIFUL koi! I love them, but have never had the opportunity to have a pond of them thus far. Maybe one day. Are they hard to care for?

ETA (Mini hijack) My DOGS can swim! They swim all the time in the summer. Sometimes, they even play in empty pools, they love the water so much.

we all lose fish from time to time

you need a good filter system. don''t feed them when the water temp drops below 55 degree b/c they can''t digest food at low temp.

love the pics of your doggie''s swimming. I have a lab who LOVES to swim too. I wish we had a pool for her to swim in every day.

DF- the pond is gorgeous. My hubby would love to do something like that in our back yard.

Beautiful pics of your fish! and their home. I find watching fish so enjoyable and relaxing.

Wow, your fish are so beautiful.

My dream house would have a Japanese garden including Koi pond.

ooooh....pretty! Fish are so interesting--people have no idea how much work it is to keep them alive and healthy. I do wish so many wouldn''t just buy goldfish and think nothing of flushing them down the toilet.

Beautiful pictures!

Beautiful koi pond! I bet it''s quite serene and peaceful!!!

The koi with the round spot are more desireable because the mark resembles the japanese flag

happy dogs! those are great pictures!

btw, my cats would think koi is cat food and i have one that would probably swim just to get one....horrible thought!

DF, your koi are beautiful! I''m impressed! Our next door neighbor has a large koi pond in his backyard--we can see it from our deck and can "hear" the koi splashing around sometimes from the upstairs bathroom, lol! He''s had some of them for 5 or 10 years. It''s a total obsession with my neighbor--the pond takes up almost all of his backyard! (Typical "Chicago" lot--about 70''x130'' including the house and garage!) At least he doesn''t have to mow any grass.

LOL.....you brit girls are too funny!!! i'm waiting for the big sale, so i can buy you one too.
2.gif
would you like yours in WG with gray dial or the YG with MOP dial?
31.gif

YAY! that's great DF...please can I have WG?

Just one question...will i get my watch in this life time....or maybe the next
8.gif

But seriously, I love the pond. The waterfall and the sound of running water....it's just so tranquil. I think this is all part of the appeal of keeping koi carp...it's not just a visual thing. I no for sure that it isn't a matter of filling a pond and throwing in a few fish...it's more of a science, especially when the fish are expensive. You've done a great job! ENJOY!

I never thought I would be complimenting fish, but those koi are just beautiful DF!!! I''ll bet that pond makes a lovely focal point in your backyard.

WOW DF! I actually gasped when I saw your pictures. The fish are just beautiful!

I wish you well,

Bridget
