Do you use them on road trips?
How do you find a decent one?
How was your experience?

BF and I are planning on taking a road trip for at least a month this summer. When we get to our destinations we have people to stay with, but along the way we''ll need somewhere to sleep. I''m really apprehensive of camping, but we can''t stay in a motel/hotel every night. Our car is a Toyota Camry so there''s limited room for trying to sleep in there.

Any other advice on how to rest would be appreciated. :)

How fun, I

road trips! Hubs and I go on a road trip usually 2 times a year,( a roughing it trip no nice hotels) then 1 nice vacation per year. We dont plan anything but the destination for our trips, so that makes for some fun, lol. What we usually end up doing is staying in campsites, or motel 6 (weve got a dog we bring), or whatever other cheapie motel there is.But, we have also been in some areas where you cant find ANYTHING, so weve slept in the car at a road stop. Not the greatest sleep in a civic (our road trip car), but itll do for 4 hrs or so! Its kinda funny, because growing up I was kinda um prissy? I guess is the word, but now I cherish these RT''s w/my hubs cause we have soo much fun. I hear you when you say your apprehensive to camp, I used to be too. But we bring bear mase and that puts me at ease. (not to mention bear mase will take out a human no problem.) Dont bring food in your tent, and keep bear mase handy and youll be fine. For the record, We''ve never had to use the mase, it just puts my mind at ease a bit with wild creatures around.

Have fun!!

Oh yeah, which area are you looking for campsites in?

Where we''ll need somewhere to stay the most is in Canada right now. Then we''ll probably need somewhere to stay in Utah or Idaho(we''re traveling from Alaska through Canada to Wyoming and then to Washington).

BF isn''t used to doing long car rides, so he is extremely excited about this. I''m excited but, I''m used to being the car for 11 hours getting to where we need to go.
Also I just have this worse case scenario going on in my head if we stay in the car or are on a camp ground. We had some friends drive down recently and they''re truck got broken into

. I''m so worried that will happen to us.

Ive used campgrounds many times on roadrips, they are a great way to keep expenses down. For a lot of roadrips we stick to KOA campgrounds. Its a chain, so you know what you are getting more or less. They are a few bucks more than any old place, but they are often quite nice as far as camping standards.

You usually have to book ahead to get a spot in a Canadian campground. All the popular ones would be pretty much booked by now, but you could try. They are usually pretty safe here. My inlaws did not always have great experiences when they took their small RV to campgrounds in the US sometimes, I guess it''s better to go with a chain like suggested already.

This will help plan part of your trip. I''m a big camper but most of the stuff I do is remote but for the other kind that you''re talking about this is a great site. It tells you everthing you need to know about a camp ground, the sites and what they have to offer. Good luck and happy road tripping!
