Hi Trekkie,

I'm in the very initial phases of planning a trip to Kruger next month. I started nosing around tonight and was a bit overwhelmed. Was wondering if you had some pointers for what areas to see/ decent (aka affordable) areas for lodging. We had some friends here from the States go a couple months ago, so I'm going to ask them what they did, but thought I'd see what you recommended as well.

I do think we'd do a self driving tour. I'm really not good at tour packages and the like. I'd rather beat to my own drummer. I'm thinking we'd do maybe 3-4 days there (not including travel days to get to/from). Is that a decent enough amount of time to get a good overview? I don't really want to spend much longer as we'd also like to do a Cape Town trip directly following this. I'm thinking we may drive to Kruger on a Friday, stay thru Tuesday (driving back to Joberg) and then fly to Cape Town and finish out thru Sunday. But that's just my initial thoughts. We have six days of vacation we can use (not including the weekends), but we could potentially squeeze another day or two. I had originally thought about doing two completely seperate trips, but we fly home Dec 1 and October is already too busy to sneak away. DH should be nearly done with his project in November and it's easier to take a week or week and a half then and do both.

I haven't even started to think about Cape Town yet, but one of my friends here has been several times and just went about six weeks or so ago, so I'm going to pick her brain. I definitely want to do wineries- and I hear there's one where you can do wine and cheese. Right up my alley!!

Bump!
