Well, because we are still in the collection phase (doing interviews) we haven''t found anything yet! The study itself focuses on comparing children in families who spend a lot of time in the medical community (the children have/had cancer) with families who spend normal amounts of time interfacing with the medical system. So it''s more about experiences and perceptions of their own/their child''s health than it is about disease itself.
That sounds interesting. Not that I necessarily understand, but in depth studies really fascinate me. Especially if it involves the medical world. What is your dh doing his on?

Aww thanks Kaleigh. I have learned so much from you here, so you deserve some of the credit! Seeing your SN always makes me smile because it''s the same as mine except mine is spelled like your dog.

Well he is in Math, so things are pretty different for him. He needs to make a "significant contribution to the mathematical world by solving an open problem". So basically, he has to solve a problem that has never been solved before. The role of his advisor is really important because his advisor has to help guide him to a problem that might be solvable in a reasonable amount of time. They haven''t picked the problem yet, so I am just crossing my fingers that it goes quickly for him!

Yay, so glad you have a thread in here, neatfreak! And what an excellent time to have one started if you're on bedrest!

I have to chime in with the rest of the choir to say that I too consider you to be one of the most knowledgeable PSers and that you also have a trait that I very much admire--you are able to say things to succinctly and in just the right tone, whereas I normally find myself writing 3-4 times as much as you and not saying things half as well as you!

Congrats on the upcoming birth of your boys! I am so excited for you and your hubby, that you'll soon be expanding your family even more. How do you think your adorably fluffy dogs will react to the babies?
9.gif

ETA: Oh yes, and congrats also on working on your PhD!! I can only imagine how difficult it is, especially writing whilst pregnant and (soon) a mom! You rock.

Aww thanks Gwen! I have to say I wasn''t always so succinct, but in my field you spend the first two years of graduate school compressing 10 pages of information into a 1-2 page policy brief, so you have to learn fast!

I hope the dogs will react well...they do really well with other people''s babies and kids, so we are hoping that will extend to our own. I''m sure it''ll be a bit of a shock to them though and we''ll have to work hard at training them that the babies are dominant over them, but with time it''ll come I''m sure.

And YOU by the way are so brave for dropping everything to move to England! I did the same thing, but just for a year in high school as an exchange student (in Italy) and it was one of the hardest but most rewarding things I''ve ever done. Kudos to you for following your heart!

Neatfreak, you''re one of my favorite PS''ers :) Congratulations on your twin boys, I bet you''re anxious to meet them. I have a question about your amazing jewelry collection! Do you wear the set that is in your avatar? I remember you posting a picture of the most beautiful sapphire ring- If I remember correctly you said you wear this with your pave band. Just curious :)

I mix it up a bit! The set in my avatar is my wedding ring (the pave band) with my engagement ring (well, at least the stone my husband proposed with, it''s a new setting because I wrecked my old one!). During the time my engagement ring was off being replaced, my DH and I bought the sapphire ring, so I sometimes wear that one instead as a wedding set. Luckily my DH doesn''t care what I wear as my "wedding set" because I love to mix things up!

I know that very soon you''ll have your hands full, but sometime in the future, if you could post some additional pictures of your sapphire ring paired with your wedding band..? I''d love to see it

How do you like the paladium mounting? Do you see any issues wearing it next to a platinum band?

I like the palladium, but I do prefer the platinum. The platinum develops such a nice patina, but when the palladium scratches it scratches more seriously if that makes sense? The scratches are more apparent on the palladium. And I prefer the color of my platinum.

But as a budget alternative I certainly prefer it over white gold! So far no issues, but I don''t know if there would be long term or not because I am not familiar with the density of palladium vs. platinum.

I think so! But it''s the norm in his field so I guess he doesn''t know any better! But just the thought of working on something for potentially a few years and then getting nowhere really scares me!

Not really...I like going to sporting events normally, but here it just gets too insane. We used to live right over by the badger stadium and on game days I was just appalled at what I saw people doing...just can''t handle that many drunk people!

I''ve never been to a badger game, but I have a couple friends that go, and make an all day affair of it. They start their drinking around 9am. (and their in their 50s!!!) My dad and I go to quite a few Packer games, but we skip the tailgating.

What''s your area?

Public Policy is what my PhD is in. I focus mostly on policies affecting children and families, but I dabble in everything from welfare policy to health policy.
A PhD with social utility! I''d like to do some policy work myself.

Hehe. I hope so, I really enjoy it. That''s why I get so annoyed in ATW when people throw out policies that are completely unfeasible or off the wall and don''t understand why they won''t work!

What kind of policy are you interested in Harriet?

9am is late for tailgating if the game is early! I am so glad we moved out of that neighborhood. It was insane, you basically couldn''t leave your house all day for fear of hitting a few drunks with your car every 10 feet.

No thanks. My brother and his wife live in that vacinity. I don''t know how they tolerate it.
Well, we''re being prepared to get blasted with snow tonight and tomorrow. Their saying up to 14 inches!

neatfreak, what is one of the most eye opening non-fiction books you''ve read?

That''s a great question...I''m a book nerd so I read a lot, but there are just so many...One I really enjoyed is Freakanomics even though it wasn''t exactly eye opening since I''m a stats nerd already! I''ll have to think about that one...

You are one of the most prolific posters on here, so when I didn''t see you for a while I was sure you were having those babies! Nothing yet? Sounds like it is almost time for an eviction notice!

No nothing unfortunately! I just finally left the house for awhile (and took a nap!) since I am finally allowed off bedrest...even though I really don''t want to go anywhere unless it involves having these babies!

Hi neatfreak.

I was actually lurking in this section last week to see if you had your own thread. I see you around the forum SO much, you always have great advice for people on their purchases and issues.

I had no idea you were expecting, let alone twins. CONGRATULATIONS!

I hope the birth goes smoothly for you. I bet you will be glad to get off bedrest finally too...although, your life will be hectic with twins to look after.

Thanks Merry! I am around a lot recently because I am on bedrest...and PS is so much more pleasant than watching another rerun of a Bravo reality show!
