Hello Matata,

I was hoping I could pick your brain for one minute about your gorgeous Josette ring

I am currently in the process of having a ring made with BGD (also with a cushion), and I''m trying to decide between single claw, double claw or ribbon-type prongs such as yours.

I would love to have single claw, but my centre is a sapphire so I think the corners need a lil bit more protection.
I thought from the start that the prongs on your BGD looked really elegant - can you please tell me, do you love them in real life?

Do you feel like they look delicate and also protect your cushion''s corners?

My design (imho) could really go any way prong-wise, so I''d love to hear your thoughts on your Josette prongs!

Thankyou in advance
AJ

Hi right back ya Ms. Bling Queen. Congratulations on choosing BGD for your project. I had the pleasure of meeting Brian a couple weeks ago and was completely smitten. He has a good heart & gentle soul.

I LOVE my prongs. They are nearly invisible IRL and in combo with the basket provide good protection for the stone. The entire profile of the ring is quite low and tight and that helps protect also. Here''s a pic with a good angle to see the whole shebang. Oh, and thanks for identifying that I have ribbon-type prongs. Hadn''t a clue and didn''t discuss prongs during the design process.

I''m still a fan of claw prongs on diamond rings but I''ve recently come to find them distracting on colored stones, something about the way they curl over protrude onto the color. Just a matter of personal taste. Maybe you should have a rendering made with claw prongs and another type to see how it will all flow. What''s Brian''s opinion about more protection needed for the sapphire?

Hiya M,
cheers for your detailed response hon.
That''s awesome that you got to meet Brian - I agree completely, that''s the impression I get just from speaking to him on the phone

Thanks for your info on your prongs and basket - I love low to the finger too. I would def. call them ribbon - type prongs; the actual ribbon prongs that some designers do are a bit.. bulkier?.
I like yours better!

I think I will do what you suggest and request CADs with claw and ribbon both - Brian won''t have the sapphire until later this week, but imho it will need some protection - here is a photo to show the pointy lil corner bits:

Cheers for your input and sharing Josette again!

Wowza. Beautiful, gorgeous, luscious sapphire. Congrats! Have you thought about v-caps? I think Brian would be able to do a very delicate v-cap prong that would keep the shape of the corners yet offer very good protection. If you cover your "little pointy bits" will it create an allusion that changes the shape of the stone?

hi again M,

thankyou! Yes I am in awe of Jeff''s work and could not be happier.

I actually just had a long chat with Brian to nut out the details - you are just right; I bought up your prongs, but he said they may have to be more V shaped (like for a princess), which we both agreed was not the right direction.

He was quite confident that split claw prongs is the way to go for both aesthetics and security - tbh, they were not my first choice, but they do suit the design perfectly and protecting my stone is of course important to me too.

Either way, we will know in the next day or so when Brian receives the stone - I think the large photo may exaggerate the "pointedness" of those corners - it looks more pillowy from a real life viewing point.

Thankyou lovey for your input..and say hello to Jo for me, he he..
