Hi DF,

You know the PP watch I bought recently from Christies? I am thinking of selling it to buy a diamond-encrusted watch (like a FM or another PP but an Aquanaut instead). Do you know if I can list it on a watch forum to sell it (preferably one based in Singapore) - do you know of one?

Also, since I'd be a newbie member, how would I convince ppl that it's a genuine PP, as most ppl tend to buy from seasoned members with lots of post counts and/ or sales and feedback records?

And how much do you think I should list it for?

Thanks.

Try listing your watch on Timezone.com... ;)) Singapore is the watch capital of Asia, so there's a good chance that you can do a face to face deal in SG.

as for how much you should list the watch for?..to get an idea try Googling the model and see what sellers are asking for the same watch.

how about a Patek 4939 or a Aquanaut 5068?

Oh wow! Thanks so much, DF.

I must say I am not surprised that SG is the watch capital of Asia. When I first got this watch, I took it to PP intending to have it serviced and not only did they tell me that it'd take up to 3 months, but they also told me to come back (twice!) because they're so backed up with so many orders!! And this is at SGD1,700 (USD1,300) a pop!! :o Who'd have thought?!!

I'm not inclined to have it serviced now, not only because it'd tie up the watch for another 3 months but also because I'm reluctant to spend any more money on it. I do have the Certificate of Origin and an Extract from Archives from PP - both original, and not copies. Shall I also include them in my ad on the forum or just simply say I have the original certs? I ask because I also follow a local handbag forum and a lot of the ads for bags for sale state they have copies of the receipts (they don't say they have the originals), which I must say sounds a bit dubious!

I also have the receipt of payment from Christies. Should I mention that too? (I won't of course show the actual receipt until the final sale and even then only in person).

I shall google for prices. In the meantime...I think you remember how much I paid :wink2: . I'm willing to take a loss of a couple of thousand dollars. Is that realistic or unrealistic? advisable?

I haven't found the 4939 yet but the Aquanaut 5068 is gorgeous!!

I love the diamond-version of mine which is a ladies watch. Mine, as you know, is a mid-sized. I love it but find it a bit too big for my little wrist. I think something slightly smaller, that comes with diamonds on the face, would be more *me*! :twirl:

You're not so enamoured with FM, right?

list all the accessories that comes with watch + some pics would help. IMO...your looking at a 4-5K loss.

Oh God!! You're kidding (?!!). In that case, I may just hang onto it and wear it. I don't think I can stomach that much of a loss, not unless I can replace it with another PP offered at also a steep discount.

your welcome.. :)

I'm poking my head in here, where it doesn't belong, just trying to help;

I think you should look up the price on antiquorum's website, see what they recently sold it for, then price it a couple of thousand less. BUT I poked in because I've been sort of an auction follower (Christie's, Sotheby's) for years, and their hammer price is usually not much higher than market value of most things. I've seen lots of stuff on Christie's go for about the same as it does on other selling sites. I noticed it alot when I was doing my recent watch research.

Have you considered selling it through Sotheby's? You can email them pics, and list all the info (certs, etc., ) and they'll give you an auction estimate for free, no obligation.

Okay, going back to where I belong . . .

Sorry, I didn't see your post til now. I thought DF's was the last post.

It's very very helpful. I really appreciate it. It's really great to know. I'd love to not lose more than a couple of thousand dollars. I totally couldn't stomach a much bigger loss!! I will search that site and see what similar watches fetch.

I consigned something with Christies, and they charged me a seller's premium of something like 30% ( I forget exactly how much but it was in the region of 25-35%). Talk about OUCH!! I could ask Sothebys and see what they say.

I second that recommendation for Timezone. Go to the Patek forum.
