Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Does anyone know of any really good pilates workout DVDs? I keep reading that pilates is great for the pregnant woman and I would like to start trying some.

Awe, Lindsey, what a cutie! I''m glad to hear that your scan went well.

Robbie and CDT, congrats!!!! I''m so happy for both of you.

Mela and Lindsey, great to hear about the good u/s! And about just one baby!

And I''m also glad to hear that Kay seems to be doing so well, and that Jen''s babies are looking better for a vag delivery. (Hope your cervix cooperates soon.) So much good news today!

I have a m/w appt in 10 minutes, so I have to run along.

Lindsay What great pictures and so happy everything is working out well re:blood issues right now!

Big congrats to Robbie and CDT! Welcome!

And GREAT u/s Mela and Lindsey. Beautiful beautiful babies!!

I''m going to be a compulsive checker the next day or 2. Hope everything went well for Kay, and GOOD LUCK JEN!!! Can''t wait for the updates.

I have another appt tomorrow. Hoping for more cervical changes!! :)

SDL, how scary! I can sympathize. After being home for just 2 days my son had to go into the hospital for a few days due to a high level of jaundice. Thank goodness the doctors were able to get it under control. Dealing with hospitalization is tough!

Lindsey, great u/s and I''m glad to hear things are going well after your scares.

LIA, Good luck with your appointment! Can''t wait for an update!

NYC, we heard our baby''s heartbeat at 10 weeks. I believe that''s around the time you usually hear it. Thanksgiving sounds like a perfect time to tell your family.

You can usually detect a HB on u/s at around 6 weeks give or take...so this one might be too early.

thanks for the info...last night at 3 am i woke up and of course had to pee,but then i had the vomit thing in the back of my throat...when did your ms kick in?...with my son it wasn''t until about 10 weeks--i remember thinking i had escaped ms(actually i had it in the afternoon...vomiting out my car window after work

), but this week i seem to get slight waves of nausea.

Thinking of Kay, Jen and Indy tonight

NYCSparkle morning sickness is so crazy because it varies so widely between women, and even for the same woman during different pregnancies.

My morning sickness started at 5 weeks... fluctuating nausea. At 6 weeks, I began throwing up on a daily basis. At 7 weeks, I was throwing up over 10 times a day, and the day that I called my doctor with an "enough!" I had thrown up 20 times in two hours at work. I have been taking Zofran since then, and initially I was taking 8 mg three times a day -- if I tried to skip doses, I immediately got sick. But now I''m twelve weeks, and I can survive on 4mg every day or every other day -- so it is starting to ease up for me! I''ve heard that it lets up around 12 weeks for most women, but most of my friends had some episodes until 14 weeks.

I love all the u/s photos!! So cute!! I can''t wait for mine!

Like I mentioned yesterday I haven''t had any nausea or morning sickness yet. I''m 5 weeks a 2 days. I have however, already had to go up a size in pants because my thighs are HUGE!!!!!!!!! I have some bloated in my stomach but it''s my a** and thighs that are growing. I''m not eating much differently then before, other than drinking a nice large glass of milk at night. But I always gain weight first in my thighs (and it''s the last to come off when trying to lose!) And my face looks like a teenager w/ all of these pimples! I woke up this morning and I just feel so ugly
8.gif
I know it''s all for a good reason, but doesn''t help how I''m feeling this morning.

Ok, enough of debbie downer...sorry about that

Good luck Kay and Jen!

So what are all of you preggos eating right now? My morning sickness is slowly but surely letting up, and as of two days ago I feel I''ve started a much more normal intake of food. That was a difficult time for me because I know that nutrition is important, but there were so many days that I skipped my prenatals and had days where all I ate was... crackers. Not exactly nutritious!

But I think that my body is getting back on board, and I''m interested in what you preggos are eating to stay healthy! Yesterday was my biggest intake of food since being preggo, and I tallied it up -- 1600 calories, not quite the 1875 I''d ideally ate. But after eating crackers for 2 months, it felt like a lot! I''ve lost a little over 20 pounds this year, so I think it will be a bit difficult mentally to put it back on. However, I tell myself that I did a great job, because otherwise I''d end up way heavier than when I started!

Yesterday I had a banana, Fage w/ honey, organic PB&J on wheat, half of my husband''s McDonald''s medium fry, two oranges, corn soup, and ginger snap cookies! Man! Today will be pretty similiar -- right now I''m cooking steel cut oats that I''ll top with honey, walnuts, and dried cherries. I''ve packed my lunch and I''m having another PB&J on wheat, a banana, an orange, and walnuts. Dinner will probably be salad and soup.

What do you gals pack for lunch? I really like to bring a sandwich, but don''t want deli meat, and of course I read a study about how women who consume peanut products daily when preggo had a 33% higher risk of their child having asthma problems later on. Of course there''s a new study every day, so who knows...

Also, what supplements are everyone taking? I''m taking the Rainbow Light Prenatal One (I was taking the 6 a day, but didn''t like the lead levels.) I''m also taking Nordic Naturals (my favorite brand of fish oil) Omega 3D liquid. Each teaspoon has almost 2 grams of omega-3''s, and it''s also fortified with vitamin D which is nice for the fall/winter. It has an orange/lemony taste, and I wash it down with a swig of tart grapefruit juice and can''t taste it.

Hey Lindsay, I don''t know how tall you are, but when you are preggo you need to eat a fair amount of calories to stay healthy, and although I am not a nutritiounist, I think you probably need more than you are presently eating. The "average" size woman who is moderately active needs to eat about 2000 cals a day to be healthy when she isn''t preggo, and that is about what you need in the first trimester. After the first tri, you need to increase it by an additional 300 cals. a day. I know how it feels to find this idea strange because I too have lost about 30 lbs in the past and tended to be a little restrictive in my diet pre-preggo. Now I eat what I want when I want and just try to stear towards healthy foods ("try" being operative
20.gif
). Some days that is a lot more food than other days, and I snack a lot more during the day. But I eat a lot more than what you listed! When I was dieting and saw a nutritionist, 1600 cals was the low end of what I ate during the dieting phase! I am a larger woman, which may mean I need higher calories than you if you are little, but when I see that low an amount of calories for a preggo I get nervous! Even counting calories makes me nervous! Eat, enjoy your food!
9.gif
PSA over...

Weight gain is such a strange thing when preggo, but I am trying to embrace it knowing it is good for my child and knowing I will lose it later. Every woman is so different, my midwife said women gain between 20 and 50 lbs in her practice and in the end when they breastfeed they end up returning to within 10 lbs of pre-preggo weight within about 6-8 weeks. This has also been my observation with my friends. She told me to follow my apetite. I told her that some nights I am really hungry before bed (pre-preggo I never snack after dinner) and she said, "So you go have a bowl of cereal!" haha

I gained about the right amount in the first tri, about 5-6lbs, but between weeks 16 and 20 I gained 8lbs! LOL! No change in diet! I spoke to my midwife about this and she told me that the middle phase can be a real "pack it on" phase and I''ll feel like I am balooning. I don''t actually feel too big and I certaintly don''t try on my old pants or anything to check, but she was right about packing it on! Things have slowed down now to the typical 1lb a week. But I am not getting on the scale anymore except when I go to ge ta checkup. It won''t help me to know how much I gain since I am not going to diet, and I am making every effort to eat healthy food most of the time so I figure my weight will do what it wants.

Lindsay I was going to say the same thing as DD, I don't think you're eating enough. I know you are coming off m/s , but I would try to increase your calories a bit in the next upcoming weeks when possible. All I do is try to eat a balanced diet and listen to my body. If it's craving steak, I eat it. If I'm craving fruit, I eat it. Whatever.

I'm a pretty small person (5'3" and a size 2-4 before being preggo) and my doc said I should aim for 2500 calorie a day or so. That is with the twin factor, and I don't know your stats, but I would aim for at least 2200 or so calories a day if you can. But I wouldn't stress if you don't meet it or have a bad day or two. Babies will make sure they take whatever they need from their moms! You want to make sure that you're increasing your diet by 300 calories from what you would eat if you weren't dieting, not if you were.

When I was packing lunch I often did a whole grain PB&J too and then some fruit, a cookie, maybe some cut up veggies, it varied...for my first lunch.
11.gif
I've found that it's easier for me to eat a lot if I eat it in small quantities throughout the day, so that's what I do. Seems to work I am smack in the middle of the "ideal" weight gain for twins!

It''s amazing how you can eat about the same amount, and still pack on the pounds during pregnancy -- it''s pretty cool!

Dachsie, I know that my calorie intake is lower than ideal for me, as I said, I''m just coming out of severe morning sickness. A lot of women lose weight during the first trimester with morning sickness, but I''ve only lost about 2 pounds total and my doctor is fine with that. I am overweight starting out in this pregnancy -- I''m only 5''2 and was 160 lbs, right now I''m at 158. My daily maintenance calories for my height/weight is 1800, and my doctor told me during my first trimester that I only need an additional 75 calories. So that''s where I got the 1875 from. I''m not counting calories to be anal anyway, I''m counting calories to ensure that I''m eating enough.

My doctor told me that once I hit my second tri (which fertility friend said I hit on Monday) I should eat between 2000-2200 calories for my height/weight. As good as I''ve been feeling the last two days (hope it stays this way!) I should definitely be able to hit that. I think 1600 calories is pretty good the second day out from puking every day

That makes sense! I am about the same proportions as you weight wise, but I am taller and of course weigh more
11.gif
It is funny to actually be like "hmmm I will eat what I want" or even "I''l leat 2 lunches" like NF said
3.gif
Some days I am just hungrier than other days for sure. I think as your ms goes away you will find your apettie comes back and you will just eat and eat and eat!
9.gif
My friend who is about your size lost 15 lbs when she had mornin gsickness, then put it all on plus another 20 in the last 15 weeks soooooooo let the gorging begin! haha

LOL, DD. I''m pretty sure I''m eating a LOT more and I''m only 5''5" and less than 4 weeks! I had half a pizza for dinner last night

. I really need to start eating healthier. It''ll have to wait until after lunch though. I''m getting Wendy''s

What I had thought was morning sickness didn''t show up today, so I''m guessing it was something else and the real thing will hit in a few weeks.

Yup, I never got m/s. I felt "icky" in the evenings for about weeks 5 - 10 and ate a lot of carbs, but that was all.

Kay Yippeee can't wait to see some pictures! I love red heads!

Congrats KAY!!!!!!!!!!! Can''t wait to hear more and OBVIOUSLY see tons of pics of the fair haired Alexis Sophia! Gorgeous name. YEY!!

I''m eating more frequently than before, and admittedly, more in quantity than before. For me, eating helps keep the m/s at bay. I find I''m the gag-y-est on an empty stomach. Regardless though, pregnancy is certainly not a time for vanity. Between the weight gain, veins, dull skin, acne...

anyways. Bottom line is, eat what you can - and enjoy this special time in your life!!

Congrats Kay!!! I love the name!

Ooh, I hope I''m as lucky as DD!

Ooh, I hope I''m as lucky as DD!
haha... if it is a balancing factor, I have gained a lot of weight and already have some strecth marks (itty bitty ones starting on my lower belly), how''s that?
9.gif

Actually, it made me worry a lot more in the first tri about whether or not I was even preggers
40.gif
Even now, if I didn''t *know* I was preggers I wouldn''t really know. It''s only when I catch a glimps in the mirror and see my belly, or feel winded walking up stairs that I really remember, "Oh yeah! I''m pregnant!" haha. And I feel the baby poke me a lot, but even that is probably less than others since my placenta is in the front and blocks most movements still.
