Home Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

oh! Born free is sold at BRU! I can return all my dr. browns, the drying rack & exchange for those instead .. they have an air vent/valve thingie too. Oh well...now I'm on sippy cup detail.

ETA: Oh boy are they expensive...$10 a bottle!!! I think I spent perhaps....$40 on all my Dr. Browns. Maybe I'll do the playtex dropins instead. I liked those with Jake too...and you can buy 100 liners for $4 at target.

Congrats MrsS!!

My best friend is pregnant with her 2nd now, and her firstborn (my godson) is less than 6months.

I am a little envious that she''s going to have 2 little ones so close to each other in age, and that she can have 2 in a row, because whilst I would love to have another soon, it is just not possible, with work and all.

Ahhhhhhh Button is growing up so quickly, and I kind of miss the ''baby'' stage

, and the baby moving in my belly bit of being pregnant.

How exciting, so many PSBabies!

Ok, now I''m obsessing on the baby bottle thing. Do you guys REALLY think this is an issue, or just some other alarmist reaction from certain groups? That whole reused mattress thing turned out to be a false alarm....the SIDS Alliance debunked it.

Geez between this crud & lead toys from China, I have a headache.

ok, the whole bottle thing is interesting. I used avent with my oldest. Lily never drank from a bottle so no worries there. I just checked all my sippy cups and they all have #2 so, whew...safe there. I''m not sure how long I will nurse this next one but know bottle feeding will be a must so i guess i''ll be buying the BPA free bottles this time around since I have to buy all new ones any way.

re: childbirth. are you gals close to delivering taking any of the birthing classes the hospital''s offer? I took that and it really did help a little bit. I guess I was never really scared b/c I knew I was going to get the drugs and the pain would be the thing that would scare me the most. I think though once your there, going through it, with the nurses coaching you, fear kinda goes away and your mind just knows you have a mission to complete. it really is such and amazing experience.

MrsS our first class is 9/4. We will also get a hospital tour. I am sure that will relax me alittle (hopefully!) I know I am not going to die or anything that dramatic but I am still freaked out. I only started getting these feelings recently. I am sure it is normal.

Diver, I think it is better to be safe than sorry. I don''t think this is a false alarm. Did you see how many reports there were from valid sources? The last link I posted as a good article. I didn''t look at yours yet. The amazon link has gerber bottles that are pretty cheap and safe (b/c they are opaque plastic). My mom thinks I should so glass at home. I don''t know. I am planning to BF so I don''t need too many. The Born Free seem like a good option (even though they are expensive). They sell them at Whole Foods too. I need to check my teethers too (it pertains to all plastics). I guess at least I can use the excuse that we will have more children in the future. I have some avent bottles that were bought as a gift. Of course they came from Target with no GR. Do you think BRU would take them? Is that really awful to try?

Thanks for the info on the plastics!

Diver, the crib mattress thing was debunked? I read that first here and was considering getting a new one for my hand me down crib, but if it's a false alarm, I'd rather use the one we have as it is nice....

Tgal: Here is one of the SIDS Alliance/First Candle''s responses to the toxic mattress thing. I was trying to find the newer one, it did say that its a good idea to buy a new mattress if you are not reusing one from the same family (i.e. siblings--i think its a germ thing). Unless your mattress was handed down from a close friend or family member, I''d get a new one.

http://www.sidsalliance.org/FC-PDF4/Research_Position%20Statements/toxic%20gas%20theor%E2%80%A6es%20and%20sid.pdf

I trust SIDS Alliance, their whole purpose is to reduce the risk of SIDS.

Ok, well I talked to my dad, who knows a lot about toxic chemicals/plastics, and he didn''t think I was overreacting. Since I have all my gift reciepts--I can just return them. He actually went through his house tonight & tossed some sippy cups, and apparently one of the bibs they have there for Jake was on a recall list as part of a "made in China toxic plastic recall". He is usually the guy who tells me not to worry about things because I tend to over worry. So if he''s cautious of the BPA bottle thing (he was looking at the root of the word of the toxic chemical & told me its part of another chemical that has been proven toxic) and doesn''t want Delaney or Jake exposed to it, then, as per usual, I am going to do what he says. Such a daddy''s girl...always have been.
9.gif

I think I''m going to go ahead and toss my plastic waterbottles..(made with the same stuff as the bottles) I saw on Ellen a few months ago that aluminum is better. Come to think of it, I''ve been hearing a lot about heating food in the microwave in plastic dishes is bad too.

Ugh, everything is bad for you, and everything gives you cancer.
3.gif

TGal I would still get a new mattress. It just isn''t worth the risk IMHO. I don''t think it matters if it is from a family or friend. The fact that it was in a different home is the bigger issue. I have been reading about BPA all week. I still haven''t decided which alternative I am going to use. I read drop-ins can be bad b/c pieces of plastic can get into the milk. It is very frusterating that they do not have tighter restrictions on these things so that everything is as safe as it can be.

Diver, what bibs were recalled? Stainless water bottles are suppose to be good. They make sippy cups out of it too. Also beware of bottle nipples and pacis. Make sure they are made with BPA free plastic.

Tacori: It was some bib that started with an M. I have no idea, but i''ll ask him for you tomorrow. I am off to research BPA paci''s now. My son CHEWS on them. I have to check them daily & toss them constantly. My friend picked one up & said "oh, poor binkie, did the dog get to it?" Ummm no.......that''s Jake. I got him off of them this spring, and then my dh went and gave them back! grrrrrrr....now Jake hides them throughout the house in case he needs one. Rascal!

oh the headache of it all. What a pain in the tuckus.

Tacori: I can''t find anything on BPA-free paci''s. I''m going crosseyed. If you ahve time, would you see if you can find a link for me? Gracias!

Hi Ladies.

Although I''m not pregnant (yet!!!) I love reading this thread. I have my pre-pre-natal appointment with my doctor next week and I''m so excited. One of my best friends had a baby earlier this month and I never thought it would happen... but I''m so jealous! I always thought I would be one of those people who would just have a baby because it was time to have one. But now I really want one!

One question for you all regarding birth control: did you go off it for a couple of months before trying. Some friends have advised this. However, I''m going to Las Vegas late October and I really don''t want to be pregnant while I''m there. I''m afraid of stopping before because of accidents but I''m afraid of stopping after because it then might take a long time to regulate and get pregnant. I''ve been on bc for almost 16 years so I don''t know how my body will react when I''m off it.

Thanks so much!

Hi Gals

Mrs.S--congrats! So great that there will be a few of you to chat with who will be due around the same time!

Jaders: That''s crazy about the insurance--I take it for granted living in canada with a year of paid maternity leave and universal health care. I had no idea american citizens often have to family plan based on insurance factors.

Jcrow--hubby and I decided we would start ''trying'' immediately after the wedding--we never thought that we would get pregnant literally a few days after the wedding...so just be prepared for that possibility when you do decide to ''let things happen'' hehe. I am a pessimist so i thought it would take months but, ha, the universe was sending me a msg.
And also--a good 5'' friend of mine recently gave birth and she looked great--all belly, so i bet you''ll be adorable
And more on weight gain. I think this first trimester is really hard. I lost weight before the wedding--got preg. right away--was on honeymoon for almost a month and came home to find out i was preg. and had gained 5 lbs!!! I think it is noticable (esp) in my belly which is soooooo bloated with gas it is just awful, and not being able to tell ppl the cause is (i know, vain) but embarassing. I would rather just ''look'' pregnant and not just ''bigger'' ugh.

jas - seriously? ONE YEAR PAID maternity? i think canada''s calling my name. i can''t believe that! the only way i get paid leave is if i save up my (partial) vacation days & sick days. sheesh. unreal.

Oh geez, all this BPA stuff is making me head spin!! I''ll have to read through some of those links before we register this weekend. Thanks Tacori and Diver for the info!

Howdy Amanda

To answer your question, every body is different -- I was on the pill for 10 years and was off it for 4 months when I got preganant. And we weren''t technically "trying" either. I think TGal was on it for longer than I was and then got pregnant the first month off it! So don''t hold much stock in the fact that being on b/c for so many years will keep you from getting pregnant quickly! And TGal and I are both also in our mid-30s, so that''s another myth debunked right there
9.gif

Yep, Jas, the first trimester is hard b/c you just feel fat, not pregnant. But I think that most people are actually pretty oblivious to it other than us! I felt SO obvious with all my peeing and eating and newly big boobs (for me), but people had no clue I was pregnant until I told them. Well, some people at work guessed but that was b/c of all my closed-door phone conversations -- a dead giveaway that you''re either looking for a new job or are pregnant! -- not b/c of my changing body!

Hm, OK, well maybe I will go look at crib mattresses anyway. :)

AmandaPanda, Ella is correct. I probably debunked every myth in the book with my pregnancy. I had been off the pill 2 weeks, and we weren''t evening "trying"...that is, due to my hectic summer travel schedule, we had sex ONE TIME during the ovulation period. And yes, I am in my mid thirties. And to top it all off, TGuy and I had been out at a 4th of July party and since we actually had a ride home that day, we both had a fair share of wine. We weren''t drunk at all, but both "happy". Apparently there''s a myth that alcohol kills the swimmers.

But I do think my pregnancy can support the theory that being relaxed about it can help. We weren''t thinking about conceiving and after sex, we both fell asleep, so I was nice and relaxed and I guess my body was able to do what it was supposed to do! I was quite surprised, considering I was on the pill for 14 years.

I am so glad I work from home. I can''t imagine being pregnant in an office with all the cramping and peeing and FARTING!
6.gif

I have not idea if it''s true or not, but I''d always heard that the pill actually prevents you from ovulating. So, when you go off, it''s like a flood of stored up eggs come rushing out and therefore it makes it actually easier to get preggo right after going off the pill. my dr. said to wait 2 months but only b/c they wanted me to have to normal cycles, nothing to do with the pill remaining in your system. I got preggo with my first 6 weeks after going off the pill. With this one, I went off the pill in feb. and actually got preggo in march, miscarried in april, was careful for a couple months and now preggo again. All that to say, I don''t think the pill hinders conception at all. i know way to many friends who said lets see what happened, maybe we''ll be preggo in a year and had babies before that year was up.

Congratulaions Mrssalvo!
36.gif

AmandaPanda: I just got off of the pill after 5 years and we are trying right away. I talked to my doctor about it and she said that it will be okay if I get preggo right away. She did say that there are different schools of thought on the issue and that we should do what we think is best.

I didn''t really even think about insurance issues until just now. Eeek! I''ve had my job for three years and have always had insurance through my employer and I''m not aware of any pregnancy restrictions. I never knew you had to wait...? I''m confused! My boss''s wife is preggo and we switched companies right after she found out and they''re not having any trouble getting her prenatal care covered. They did disclose that she was preggo and it was no problem. I''ve got some research to do.

I''m on CD#3 and counting. AF should be outta town by this weekend and we''ll resume our baby dancing schedule!

6.gif
TGal, you''re too funny! Yes, the peeing at work is really annoying, but I look at it as more time away from my desk, which isn''t a bad thing
2.gif
Though I do feel self-conscious walking by everyone twice an hour on the way to the bathroom.

As for the farting ... doesn''t pregnancy have some oh-so-glamorous side effects?! Gas-X is safe for you, and it comes in those dissolvable strips that melt on your tongue. Those work wonders for me! (Except when I eat baked beans with my dinner as I did last night. *ahem*)

Jas, so your one-year maternity leave is paid 100% in full?!

Ella, I didn''t even think about seeking help for the gas explosions. I just figured I''d deal with it somehow. I realize now why they call the embryo a "little bean."

Tacori, I thought of you last night as TGuy and I went out on a date. No, he did not ask me. After thinking about our posts, I sent him a text message asking him out on a date. He sent one back asking what was the occasion? I said, nothing...we both could use a night out is all. Sometimes, we have to take matters into our own hands and give ourselves a little break!
9.gif

AmandaPanda: I was on the pill the month before I got pg this time (went on it for a month after my m/c cuz I was going on a cruise and needed to party...lol) I went off it and conceived 2 weeks later. I was on the pill for about 16 years too before my first, so there ya go. One Ob told me they tell you a few cycles to get rid of bad habits....but I don''t smoke, drink heavy, or do drugs, so I really didn''t need to wait. However, start taking a prenatal vitamin with folic acid in it. If you know you are going to be trying, the March of Dimes recommends 3 months of folic acid prior to conceiving to get it in your system to prevent neural tube defects. Any prenatal is fine. You can take the fancy one or you can take the generics from the grocery store. I take generics, they don''t upset my tummy.

Tgal: That''s a good article.

Ok..I have stuff to do...gotta scoot!

Thanks for all the advice ladies.

I''ll see what my doctor has to say but it looks like I''ll be on bc for at least two more cycles.
7.gif
I like NuvaRing but it''s made me gain some weight and has significantly lowered my drive. So I''m almost as anxious to get off of it as I am to try to conceive. However, to be pregnant in Las Vegas would suck, suck, suck!

I don''t have time to respond to all the new posts but I just wanted to tell you I was 11 weeks along the last time we went to Vegas and I had a great time. I am not a huge drinker so it didn''t bother me that I couldn''t. Luckily my m/s was pretty good that week. I just had bad back pain. I had one period off BC before I got preggo. I was on it for almost 13 years. It did screw up my cycles (they were 40 days) but I was obviously still ovulating. We got lucky since I was not charting.

I posted this in hangout, since a lot of people don''t stop by in here, but in case you ladies aren''t looking at hangout today, there''s been a recall on baby carrots, including the ones at Trader Joe''s.

So I was so excited. We put the crib together and it looks awesome. Then we unpacked the "matching" dresser.....it''s the wrong color! The box is labeled correctly but they obviously messed up at the factory. I am so disappointed! I was really hoping to be able to finish everything up this week. Now I have to call them and try to convince them to pick up the reject and order us a new one (rush order maybe?) I might make DH call since I am slightly mad at him. I have been asking him for MONTHS to open the boxes and check to make sure they look ok. We have had the items for almost 2 months. I hope they don''t give us a hard time about that.

Tacori: Well, some OB''s can do a vaginal breech delivery, but its kind of rare nowadays. If your baby does not turn, then your OB will most likely talk to you about scheduling a C-section. I don''t mean to scare you or anything, but that''s generally the safest delivery in that situation. It''ll all be OK though, babies turn on their own sometimes, you can try the suggestions on spinningbabies.com, and a c-section is not the end of the world. Hey, you won''t have "down there" pain for months on end like some of us. :-) (I''m such a glass half full girl...)

Your doc might also suggest an exteral rotation...those are sometimes successful & you can go ahead and have a vag. delivery. You''ll have to chat about it with him or her.

Here''s a WebMd piece on it, its called External Cephalic Version:

http://www.webmd.com/baby/External-cephalic-version-version-for-breech-position

And hey...I might be in the same boat as you. I have a 3cm fibroid blocking my baby''s head. It could very well block 30% of my birth canal (since I have to dilate to 10cm) and if it doesn''t move up and out of the way as I dilate, I have to have a c-section. I''ll be here for you....we''ll get through this crud together!!!!

How disappointing in finding your dresser is the wrong color! Did you get it from that fabulous store with the gorgeous crib?

Ok, not to be a downer: But are you ladies who are feeling babies doing Kick Counts? My girlfriend Aimee, (the maternity photographer) had her girlfriend lose a baby last year at like 39 weeks & they''ve really started educating folks about kick counting. Basically...you lay down at the same time each day & time how long it takes to get to 10 movements. (kicks, punches, rolls, hits, hiccups all count) It should stay the same throughout your pregnancy. When it differs is when you call your doctor.

http://www.blairblanks.com/kickcount/

That''s the website for the family that lost their son, and it educates on kick counting. I ask you all to please look at it and start counting kicks...even if your OB isn''t big in it, it can''t hurt....

Good night!

Diver, I know it will ok either way and honestly if the baby IS breeched I would feel more comfortable having a c-section anwyays. Seems like too much can go wrong the other way. I do agree the thought of NOT having the labor part IS kind of nice. Yes we ordered the crib and dresser I posted in the nursery thread. I was just so disappointment. I was really hoping to be DONE with the big stuff (or at least the stuff I need DH for). Oh well. I am waiting back for a call from the store. Keep your fingers crossed everything goes smoothly.

RE: kick counts. I asked my doc about it b/c I have a lazy baby. He said 10 an hour is a little extreme to expect. Just pay attention to patterns. My mom said she freaked out when she was carrying me (I was lazy too
5.gif
) and her doctor said as long as you feel them once an hour (or some really low number) everything is fine. I will check out that site but I have a feeling it will just freak me out.

I can''t find any info on BPA pacis. Maybe the silicone ones are okay? So confusing. Someone else on my october board said the drop-ins are NOT safe. I put the newborn born free kits on my registry ($44). They sell sippy cups on their website FYI. Besides going glass (which I know diamondfan) used I am not sure what else to do. I want to use the safest thing obviously.

Anyone else getting bloody noses?

Gosh, there is so much to worry about when having a baby, isn''t there? Eek...

Tacori, you''ll love this...so last night TGuy had a LONG day at work and had to commute to and from San Diego in traffic (it''s 2 hours from here without traffic). He came home tired and grumpy. So I listened to him vent and went over and gave him a head, neck and shoulder rub for awhile. Afterwards, I was so pooped myself, I went up to bed at 9:30.

He came up a couple of hours later and I was still awake due to some more than average queasiness. I said softly to him, "I don''t feel good." To which his response was "Want me to get you a bucket?" I shook my head no and willed myself to fall asleep. He asked "Have you slept at all since you''ve been up here?" to which the response was negative again.

He''s quiet for a second and rolls over to face me, and then I feel him gently stroking my hair and giving me a light head massage! I don''t know if I teared up because it felt so nice, or because I was touched that he was capable of doing it, lol. Of course, after only two minutes, I felt GUILTY (what IS it with us women?!?) that he was massaging me when he was so tired, so I thanked him and told him to go to sleep. He mumbled something and was snoring within a minute.

More than the massage, it really felt nice to know that he can try to be sensitive. I guess all I can do is just love and coddle him without condition and hope karma works from time to time.
