  • Your not sure it was stolen
  • You really really love it
  • You know the price is too low for the top quality
  • It come from a seller you don't know except is nickname on Internet
  • You think if it's not you who go with this bargain, It will be someone else
  • You have cash money to buy it

What you gonna do?

I know this question will probably shock someone but, the truth for you is ...

stci... are you trying to "fence" some diamonds?...

Hihihi! No it's a question cause it happen to me one year ago. I refuse the deal but now.... I have regrets cause I know the prime owner was never recovered his things and I lost a good opportunity. But I feel bad when I think to this case. :errrr:

I pass on most "new with tags" bargains on ebay because of the possibility that they were stolen. I've seen some brazen shop-lifting in department stores and don't want to be any part of that. No regrets here. Does that mean that all my purchases are "moral" - I wish I could say so, but I know that's not the case. Which is to say... I suppose I rationalize elsewhere...

As the victim of theft in the past, I would say no. If people didn't buy stolen goods, or made an effort not to support crime, then perhaps I wouldn't have lost some treasured possessions. Really really loving a stolen item offered for illegal sale? Well, the real owner probably really really loved it too. Even if they aren't traceable, they still exist. Someone out there is wearing the ring my husband bought me to commemorate the baby we lost. I hope they really, really love it.

I'd like to put this more strongly, but I don't want to offend people here.

OMG Jennifer, it's terrible! I'm so sorry to hear that! Your arguments are powerful!

I've never really thought that "new with tags" on fine jewelry was a sign of it being stolen because it is not like the fine jewelry is just out on a shelf to be shoplifted. I think some sellers have bought out jewelry stores as they go out of business and some are people who resell when they need the cash. I do try to deal with people on ebay who appear to be reputable and certainly wouldn't buy something that I thought was stolen.

I agree that there are liquidators out there, and people who buy at super-good prices at outlets etc. - and that it's possible to identify those volume-type sellers.

Ditto - I never thought that might be the case either.

Jennifer, I'm so sorry about what happened. :blackeye:

I have sold some NWT items on ebay... I bought a ton of things from a designers sale and then everything sold for 30%-50% more than I purchased it for (after fees). I never even thought about people thinking the items were stolen... eek. In any case, I do provide actual receipts or copies of receipts.

I have a question based on this....
My Mom found a really nice watch recently, and wants to give it to me.
So, she found it on a bridge- there are no shops that she could hand it in to. she brought it to the police, and they said 'no one collects these things, take it home'. She has been on the look out on the local paper to see if any notice comes up. She said she does not want to put an add in as she does nt want to deal w all the 'jokers' who might ring/reply.
I don t know what to do- I sort of believe in karma of jewelry pieces so I don t want to have bad vibes as I am benefiting from someones else's pain (loss pain). But my Mom thinks she has tried her best to get it back to the people who lost it, and if I don t want it my sis (who loses EVERYTHING) will get it. What would you do?
SORRY for the thread jack!!!!
My ans to the OP is I don t think I would buy it- too many karma issues!

Sounds like your mom really tried to return it but---I would put it in the paper anyways. If you state that the responder will have to describe the watch EXACTLY and make a new email for just the watch responders, it wont be as bad of a hassle as you think. No need to "talk" to anyone pretending it was their's. Just wait a few days, read through the answers and delete that account when finished.

If, after all this, there is no answer? Then I say--ENJOY! If I lost something and couldn't get it back, I would like to know that a good person is loving it (even if I couldnt anymore :(sad ) YOU know if you have really done EVERYTHING possible to return it, if you have then your conscious should be clear :) No need to throw the watch away :)

And to answer the OP, Stci...is there anyway you can or could have reported the stolen jewelry?? If someone is willing to steal once, they will do it again. I wouldnt let that person around your beautiful jewels!! If I knew for a fact that someone had stolen merchandise, I would do everything in my power to have that person arrested. Maybe the police would just laugh at my phone call but atleast I would feel like I tried. Karma (or whatever name other people call it) is a powerful force. It all equals out in the end.

Excellent advice- it was the idea of 'talking' to them that she hated. Never even occurred to either of us to do this- thanks!

No cause I'm not sure there was stolen.
