My husband now refuses to buy me any jewelry because he’s afraid it won’t pass muster. LOL!

Am I alone in this?

Heck no, you're not alone.

I was just thinking about that yesterday. How I miss the days of him picking something out for me and surprising me.

Absolutely. I pick all my stuff out. My last purchase will be studs, I'll call Yekutiel and tell him when hubby calls, THIS is what I want.
Great idea!

My local jeweler (not a chain store) keeps a “wish list” for their clients. I can go in and pick out anything and put it on the list and then hubby can choose what he wants to buy. Downside is they don’t carry vintage cuts and they’d be more expensive. But still a cool idea.

yeah my hubby said the same thing...

My husband also refuses to 'surprise' me with any jewellery :roll

I don't want to be surprised - I choose all of my bling and my husband feels "off the hook" to please me. Works for us.

My husband stopped buying me jewelry a long time ago.
I gently told him to let me pick out my own jewelry.
This was after he spent way too much on a Tahitian pearl pendant at Kay's:eek2:

Uh yeah... if there is ever an engagement in my future I will have to tell him "It's all ready to go, check tabs 15 and 16 on my iPhone"

My husband has taste NOTHING like mine, and I mean mostly everything he picks irrespective of what it is, I hate, take back or hate, being able to pick my own stuff is a blessing.

I guess the blessing could be that my husband is very creative and could make up a very nice IOU for a piece that I pick out/design myself. :lol-2:

Mine too, whether it's jewelry, clothes, or whatever. Things he pick out I usually hate, and then when it comes to jewelry I'm always unhappy he overpaid for the quality he got, you know, with that money I could've gotten a really nice xyz instead... o_O

My sentimental & practical side clashes here though, because I do love gifts from him and like to have sentimental values to things. Although what I REALLY envy is women who get gifts they've been eyeing because the husband actually paid attention to what they like and surprises with them out of nowhere. My DH is rather clueless so he tends to pick the most random things :(2

When I first joined PS my gift purchases for my wife improved immensely as I was learning about stones. She was quite impressed at the time but she also wasn't as involved with or knowledgable about her jewelry as the average PS'er.

Then we started learning how to cut Opals and other gems and a little further down the track we decided that we wanted to open our own lapidary business. So nowadays any kind of jewelry gift for her usually has to be an Opal or other gemstone that I have cut and polished myself.

PS has made my life just a wee bit more difficult

Ok...so what you’re saying is...

My husband and I have to start mining for diamonds... :lol-2:

Truly, I bet your wife cherishes every gift with all of her heart.

Haha!! Well it's kinda weird now because with all the Opals and other gems that come through our workshop she is spoiled for choice. So it's very difficult to find a stone for her as she won't settle easily - usually I buy her non-jewelry items for gifts :saint:

The last jewelry item I had made for her was a ring with the smaller stone from my avatar, the bigger one went into a pinkie ring for myself. Both stones came from a single rough piece so indeed, those rings are quite sentimental to us =)2

Same here!

Sad, but true.

My husband originally wanted to buy me a 1 carat pink diamond.
Let’s just say that seeing as $35,000 back then bought a .33 pink (of barely discernible colour) he was totally gobsmacked at the prices.
So, he never buys me jewellery, he just vets my shopping limits!

YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!! We worked this out years ago, thank goodness!!! I pick it out and we are both happy!!!

Yes, same here.

Unfortunately I cannot blame my bling pickiness completely on Pricescsope because I was this way before I found PS. Pricescope just helped me fine tune what I love and what I don't love and why. When my dh proposed with a beautiful classic solitaire but the diamond wasn't the one (but he was and is so no complaints) I knew it didn't make my heart sing but I didn't know why exactly and it took a few weeks for me to work up the courage to tell him (we just got engaged after all lol). I gently explained it to him and then began my search and while it took several rings/stones etc I finally figured out I needed an OEC to make my heart sing. Then less than a year after that my dh's wedding gift to me (a gorgeous diamond and pearl necklace) which again, did not hit my sweet spot (men can take some time to learn get it) so I gently shared that with him a few days later and back to the store we went and exchanged it for a piece that was my taste. And second time was the charm because from then on out I was the one choosing the jewelry and he was the one to nod his head and say yes darling whatever you want darling. :halo: (and he genuinely means it).

And we are both very happy!
Happy Wife, happy life.

Jordy,
How beautiful to be wearing two halves of the same stone! I love the idea of connection it brings to the pieces of jewelry. Just wonderful!

The downside to Pricescope is wanting so much more beautiful jewellery, but lacking enough fingers, earlobes, necks and wrists, time and occasions to wear it all. :mrgreen2:

This happened even before I found PS. :)

For me, it's that, "I'm scared to even attempt to buy something because my budget is much lower than my expectations". If I didn't know better, I'd be thrilled with a poorly cut ring, lol. Now all I can see is the bowtie in my ring. It's sentimental so it's fine, but dang, I'm such a brat now.

Just this morning dh says to me, "I don't have anything for our anniversary next month." I replied, "yes you do!" This absolutely works out for us!

One downside is the constant itching for another project! ;)

I can't even send mine to the shop to pick out 3 tomatoes so I shudder at what jewellery he'd buy.

I plan all the dates and do all the wining and dining. He always thinks my projects are too flamboyant and then swoons over them when they are done. I'd be a pretty good husband I reckon.

3 tomatoes

Once I asked him to buy me a bag of jasmine rice. The same jasmine rice we have been eating forever (we are asian we like our rice). He came home with 10 kilos of sticky glutinous rice and packed it away.

I remember ringing him the next day at work after I discovered it when I was trying to make rice for dinner: Why do you do this to me? It's like you hate me and do this on purpose. What am I supposed to do with 10kgs of sticky rice? Where will I store it? I'm going to have to invent recipes to deal with this. Why???????

We are down to the last 3kgs!!!!!!!
