Hello everyone!

I don''t post very often, but I have a question about my dress that I would like you ladies to help me with.

I finally found a dress that didn''t overwhelm my short frame (I''m only 4''11") and that was in my budget. It''s a Linea Raffaelli (a Belgian designer) that was a sample that I got for 50% off, around 600 euros.

I''ll post pictures, but bear with me because I''ve never posted pics before...

The dress has a detachable train, and I was wondering if you think it would be fine to just remove the train for dancing or if I should have the seamstress make a bustle?
The dress itself is very simple, and I''m afraid that it will look too plain if I remove the train. There are flowers on the top of the train that I like too, so...

And if you think that a bustle would be better, do you have any ideas of what kind of bustle?

Thanks for your help!

Okay, let''s see if this works.

Ooh, sorry that''s huge! I''ll make the next ones smaller

Let''s see if this is any smaller

Here''s the back.
Obviously I''m standing on a stool. I wish I were that tall in real life!

Ok, last one. I might not be able to reply to people''s comments until tomorrow because I have to get ready for work soon. Once again, thanks for your help!

If you do a bustle, would it blend well into the dress, or would it look funny/stick out from the dress because the train is detachable? If it would blend with the dress, I would say try a bustle, because I also really like the flower detailing where it attaches.

I actually think it would look really nice with the train removed.

Hi there! I''m a shorty also 5''0". The cut and style you chose is perfect for body types like ours. I would not be able to guess that you were 4''11" from the pictures.

I think the dress is beautiful. It looks wonderful with the train attached. However, I can''t imagine how you would make a bustle out of a detachable train. Do you have any photos of that? I know you''re concerned that it may look plain. Maybe you can have some flowers attached to the back of your dress (at the top) after you remove the train? There''s a specific image I have in my head, but I''ll have to find the photo so I can show you what I mean.

Even though you think it is simple, I think it will still be beautiful without the train. You could also have an embellished veil which will add some detail to your look.

I would remove it. Pretty dress!

What about something like this?

It''s so hard to envision - do you have any pictures with the train removed?

I also just wanted to make sure that you keep reworking it until you''re happy; I wasn''t feeling my bustle and it was giving me doubts about my whole dress until my FINAL fitting when I finally said something firmly and she redid it in a new way - it made me love my dress again!

The bustle can make a big difference so try a few styles and see what YOU like.. . . AND bring back pictures, of course!

I''d also remove it. I think a bustle might overwhelm your petite frame, and I think a removable train makes a bustle unnecessary in any case.

That''s what I''m wondering as well... I suppose it would depend on the type of bustle?
I didn''t ask the seamstress to show me bustle options because at the time I bought it, I planned on just removing it. For my next appointment I''ll ask her and see what she says.

Sabine, Tacori E-ring, Pocahontas,jstarfireb:

I originally liked the idea of being able to remove the train easily and not having to pay for the seamstress to make a bustle. But I saw the pictures afterwards and thought that it would be a shame to lose the flowers by taking the train off. Because when I first tried the dress on before I decided to buy it, I first saw it on without the train, and it wasn''t anything special... but when she attached the train, the overall look was much prettier. That being said, I think I would keep it on for most of the reception and just take it off later in the evening when I''m ready to dance. I might actually be relieved to remove it after having it on all day!

Thanks oobiecoo! That''s pretty!
And I think it''s a nice option that I can show the seamstress that would blend more easily with the dress.

Thanks for replying, from one shorty to another!

I''ve never seen a bustle made for a detachable train either so I suppose it''s not that common. Unfortunately I have no pics. I like the idea of attaching flowers to the back of the dress. Or maybe I could have the flowers removed from the train and attached to the dress itself, and have the train attached to the dress just underneath the flowers. Does that make sense?

Having a veil is also a nice idea, but I''ve already decided not to wear one. We''re just getting married at the town hall (which is a requirement in Belgium anyway) and not in a church, so it seems like it isn''t really necessary.

Thanks buttercup80! Unfortunately I didn''t take pics of the dress without the train.
I will definitely ask the seamstress what she thinks and maybe try a few different styles. Every time I go to try it on, I take pictures for my mom anyway (she''s in Boston and I''m in Brussels) so I''ll be sure to show them to you ladies to get your opinions.

Everyone who responded has helped me a lot. Thank you!

Does anyone know the french word for "bustle"?

I would just remove the train.
