So I broke my pinky toe and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot I can do for it besides ice and tylenol. Does anyone have any other suggestions to make it feel better? I would tape it up but I don't think that will do much for a pinky toe.

Ouch!!! sorry that accident happened - and it can happen SOOOO easily and then you suddenly really appreciate your baby toe!!

I have done that a few times - broken a pinky/baby toe and taping it to the next toe, really does provide some support and helps to keep it in position. That's what I'd recommend - unless it starts to swell excessively or discolour - then get to the ER and have it x rayed. Ice will reduce swelling and elevation.

Good luck!

Oh man, sorry you broke your toe.

I broke a couple toes a few years ago and this was my DH's oh-so-helpful response when I was whining about the pain: "Remember how much it hurt when you broke your elbow and your ankle? Think about that pain for a while, and then your toes probably won't seem so bad." :cheeky:

I think taping it to your next toe is a good idea, just to prevent it from getting jostled at the very least. Unfortunately, I think time is the best antidote to a broken to!

Ahhhh, broken toes hurrrrtttt and unfortunately, there's not much you can do other than tape it to the next toe, ice it, and elevate your foot. I hope it feels better soon, RT!

Thanks for the helpful tips guys! I'm all bandaged up :)) Hopefully it heals in the next week and a half, I'll be in heels for a wedding  lol

Ouch! Sorry to hear you are broken!

I've done it. Years ago. I was walking in our dining room and slammed my foot into the dining table leg. It won, my pinkie toe lost. I had lovely hemorrhage streaks up the side of my foot and everything, and limped around on the inside edge of my foot for weeks, with no shoe. NOT fun. And as others have said, there's just not much for it at all. I would NOT suggest a heel anytime soon, but if you've really broken that toe and try to do high heels, it will let you know in no uncertain terms, that it doesn't appreciate your putting that much weight on it too soon. ;))

Stay off it as much as you can and I hope you get better soon!

Oh, I'm so sorry. I broke my little toe this past Spring. Definitely tape it to the next toe- use paper tape so it can breathe. Mine was a pretty bad break and took at least 6 weeks to heal- I can't imagine having to wear heels after 1 and 1/2 weeks! I wouldn't try to rush the healing as it may not mend right if you do. Taping it will help keep it in the correct position as it heals- much like a cast would do. Just change the tape daily and let it air out after showering before re taping.

ksinger is right, Stay Off It! Use crutches, cane, resting it, anything to keep it from moving right now. It'll heal much faster if you can do that.

<<< BTDT.

took longer than 1.5 weeks for my broken toe to heal........

Yes, stay off that broken toe! I think you may start the evening believing you can manage it in heels, but you'll be weepy and regretful by the end of the night if you really try it. I've so been there, it is so not worth it.

They can actually be quite serious injuries, broken toes. My father dropped a large helium tank on his large toe once (ironic, I know--a heavy helium tank) and broke his toe in multiple places. He was on crutches and couldn't drive for over a month!

I broke my big toe REALLY badly a few years ago (I could actually see the break -gross) and my doc told me not to tape it because it could heal in the wrong way... but I don't know if that's different for your pinky...
Because it was my big toe it really affected my walking and I think it took almost a year for me to not notice it when I walked so be careful -I went straight back to work because I felt silly staying home with a broken toe but looking back that was a mistake! I should have let it heal first.

ha.. I'd rather wear fluffy slippers to a wedding if I had a broken toe  even my own wedding!

Well, I didn't tape mine. I was told there wasn't much anyone - even a doc - could do for a pinky toe, so as I said, I walked on the inner edge of my foot and dragged my foot around mostly. Every move a picture I'm sure. Nowadays, I'd ask the doctor for one of those roll-y things like the old scooters for kids - you know the one with handlebars, where you can put one bent knee on it and push off with the other leg. You can get around without having to put weight on that foot. I saw someone using one the other day at the office and thought it very clever and effective...

Wow, I didn't know it could be so bad. I talked to the bride and she gave the ok for an open toed flat shoe or dressy sandals. Thank GOD!

OH! You're standing up in the wedding? I didn't realize that!

I hope you feel better for the big day!

Get on of those hot/cold gel packs that you can put in the fridge. I bought a big one so that I could have half under and half over the toe. Works so much better than ice since it is soft och flexible.

I had a pretty bad break in my pinky toe. The toe was bent the wrong way and looked like a sausage. Funny thing was that the toe did not look bruised just red but the top of my foot was all the colors of the rainbow. 6 weeks later and I still can't even think about heels ( I tried to gently push the toe into heel position today, not a good idea :o ). Flip flops are your friend right now, and if you can get crutches. Helps both to not put weight on it and people are so much nicer.

Don't be surprised if after some weeks when the swelling goes down your toe starts to peal. That freaked me out.
