So, I spoke to the dress shop about picking up my dress when it is done with alterations and they said that i need to bring a white sheet or something to wrap the dress in when i pick it up. that it would not be in a bag. Is this normal?

I ordered my dress from Pearl''s Place, and the dress was shipped to me in the original clear plastic bag and tissue from the manufacturer. Whether or not a shop gives you a real dress bag with the dress is probably very individual to the shop. I found a white dress bag on ebay for pretty cheap. It''s more like a thin cloth than plastic, so there''s no funny smell and it lets the dress breathe. Let me see if I can find the seller...

Ok, the guy I bought it from isn''t selling anymore, but this looks like exactly the same bag.

I bought a bag on ebay - they''re super-cheap and come in different widths depending on how pouffy the dress is.

Look for the ones that are 72".

My dressmaker had made a muslin bag that the dress was kept in while she was working on it, but I wanted something more waterproof!

I don''t know about "normal" for a dress coming from alterations, but I do know that wedding dress preservation specialists always say storage in plastic is a big no-no, so I suspect it''s not being cheap or anything...

Mine came in a bag, but I have heard that it isn''t good to store in, so it might be why? Have you inquired about whether they sell bags? Some stores don''t include them.

The ebay ones are acid-free and are made from breathable materials.

That makes sense. I know my dress came to them in a bag. i wondered why they were not giving me the bag to take it home in.

Now I know, thanks!

Funny that you ask that!
The bridal shop sold it to me in a cheap plastic bag. A slightly heavier bag with zipper was $10 and I was sick of getting nickeled and dimed by them so I went with the free one.
I had alterations done by a lady who does it professionally out of her home. She told me to bring a sheet to pick it up in. She had the dress bag but she says this is a better way to do it, not sure why. I thought she was being eccentric but now you make me wonder!
