variazoni is pretty...

I don''t know with the other one, feels too energetic (plus it says SLAVE in the title LOL)

do you have a favorite? u don''t seem attached to either one

... I like the Slave one. *snort*... but it has SLAVE in the title. And well... I don''t know. I''m not having a program, so I won''t have to list it though. I like it because of the middle eastern flavor it has. But I''m not sure it''s appropriate for the processional. The other one I like better than most anything else I''ve heard. It would work. I have 28 days, I don''t think I can really afford to be picky at this point.

Am I hallucinating, but weren''t you thinking of Metallica at one point? Perhaps for something else?
I like "Slave" for the Eastern celebratory flair.

I liked the slave one too...but it did feel a little fast at times...

I wouldn''t worry about it having "slave" in the title though! It''s the name of the song, and it''s kind of funny!

I don''t like to say "neither" without offering other selections, but I have to this time.

#1 - meh...
#2- I could actually picture the slaves marching...

. Sounds like a dirge

I''m sure you''ll get other selections that will *celebrate* the bride''s arrival

I''ll have to agree with Isabel. The first one was okay but not memorable, and the second one just doesn''t remotely sound appropriate for a wedding, to me. Sorry I don''t know music well enough to suggest a replacement, however, I think it should be something very beautiful.

To be very honest, I agree with Isabel. I didn't get the "celebratory" vibe when listening to these. I'm sorry!

Here are a few suggestions:

Pachabel's Canon (yes, I know it's done so often, but it's never been done at YOUR wedding, has it? That's what we used -- one of our favorites!)
Blackbird (the Beatles or Sarah MacLachlan)
Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwWL8Y-qsJg&feature=related
Handel's Water Music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0bHwyK0zfs
Beethoven's Ode to Joy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wod-MudLNPA (maybe this one makes a better recessional?)
Morning Has Broken (The Wedding Song): There's an instrumental version which I personally liek a lot more than the one with vocals, but I couldn't find one on YouTube.
Ave Maria (might be more appropriate for the when the mother walk in, but it's just so pretty)

I adore Pachabel''s canon. I don''t care if it is used a lot. It is stunningly beautiful every time I hear it! I''d choose classical for the processional for sure.

I LOVE the March Slave, but NOT for a wedding! It's a Russian military march! (Tchaikovsky, dontcha know.).

Here's one I'm considering (shortened), although I think the beauty of it is the voices, and to do that, you have to be doing recorded music, not live. If we do live, I may consider an instrumental version. I just hear a flute version that's pretty.

It's the Flower Duet from the opera Lakme.

Okay if I have to pick between the two I picked 1. I really enjoyed it. I love classical music and the first song had a better flow to it for walking... always gotta picture yourself walking to these things.

No offense to anyone here and let me add this caveat first, I love all the classical pieces everyone listed. But seriously, I''m so tired of the same old pieces being played, like Canon in D (just a personal preference). It''s a beautiful song but I like songs with drama like Debussy which of course sucks to walk down the aisle to.

If I hear ''Princess Diana walked down the aisle to that song'' or any other comments in re: to the standards, one more time I''m gonna #&*$^#*&$!

Seriously though Gyspsy, the second tune was more easterny and was good too. It just seemed a bit harder to walk to.

No offense to Ave Maria either which is flippin gorgoeus but they play it during funerals a lot too. Can''t get over that association!

I also love the flower duet from Lakme (Anyone see that movie ''The Hunger''? hehe). My harpist can play it but I''m not sure if I want to use it... it would be great if you had a vocalist.. if you''re doing a recording it''s beautiful but rather dramatic with the vocals. You should check it out though, it''s a gorgeous song.

I am having a LOT of trouble with the music. I''ll probably be positng my own thread soon. Working with the live musician aspect is making it tougher for me.

Okay. Back to the drawing board. I REALLY appreciate the honesty. Dirge. Slaves matching. Military March. I suck at this. LOL.

Yes, I was considering Metallica. I'm all over the place. I'm not a music person, but none of the traditional pieces (though they are really beautiful) feel right to me. And Cannon in D has some weird X-boyfriends associations with it I can't seem to get past. I will check out some of the other suggestions. And my fail safe-- if nothing else comes up, is Ode to Joy.

If Morning Has Broken is the song I think it is, I'm intrigued.

Marchswallow... I haven't heard the flower duet, will check out the flute version, I love the flute. Of course my favorite instruments are the Cello and Viola... and all of the songs I like with those really sounds like dirges (even I can't tell... and if I can tell, it's bad).

THANK YOU ALL.

I'm sure I'll post take number 103,290,203 in a few days. *sigh*

Violet... thank you for understanding about the 'different' thing. It's my introduction to the guests, and the first part of one of the most important moments of my life and I just want the music to be... right. Nothing has felt right yet. Hopefully it will come together.

A live musicians would make it challenging, but at the same time, you can slow things down or speed them up... or repeat elements you really like if they will let you and are flexible. There have been a lot of songs that I like elements of, but weren't right because of one part, or because it sped up in parts and got weird for a few critical seconds. Grass is always greener I guess.

Sorry not to have one to suggest, but I have to be honest here.

I have a "vested interest" in this wedding

I personally love Ode to Joy, but have heard it too many times as a processional for grads at high school and university
20.gif
. I like the suggestion of Morning Has Broken if you could find an instrumental version...

What music is being used as a recessional?

I don''t have anything to suggest, but I can tell you what didn''t work for me with these two songs...the key that they were in sounded too "minor" to me. A minor key has always seemed not as cheerful to me. If you don''t know anything about music you won''t get what I am saying...sorry!

Back to that drawing board. Have you checked out any middle eastern music that would give you that flavor without sounding too...I dunno...not worthy for Gypsy?

ETA: I couldn't resist listening to this song once I saw the title.

I wish it had no lyrics or humming, it would be amazing.

Prayer For The Soul Of Layla

Seriously, I just got goose bumps when I listened to the live version of this guy singing
"A Prayer for Soul of Layla" I would totally use the recorded version of this song for a processional. Call me crazy....

Okay, just so you all know, I REALLY appreciate the suggestions and comments... and I PROMISE I''ll deal with this issue tomorrow. I''m in denial right now that this is even an issue though, and for the time being, enjoying the lie.

This whole music thing is just... yuck, for me.

Hi Gypsy -

I''m not a big fan of either of your 2 choices. As mentioned above, they are beautiful pieces, but don''t sound very cheerful to me....more like somber funeral home music IMHO.

I used the Wedding March....traditional girl here! However, our mother''s walked down to the Handel''s Water Music (Air) that was posted earlier....it would definately work for a processional.

One of my favorite classical pieces is called "Highland Cathedral" It is traditionally played on bagpipes, but sounds beautiful with an organ or piano. Check out this arrangement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrNAECO9tHM

It has a great buildup for walking down the aisle. The 2 guys in the video play it a little bit fast for my taste, but still awesome!
