Bride dies in "Trash the Dress" photo shoot

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2193579/Maria-Pantazopoulos-The-wedding-dress-shoes-bride-fell-drowned-photo-shoot.html

This was emailed recently and when I looked at the photos of the area, I thought, how beautiful ... but how dangerous the rocks and water looked. This article also shows the shot a PP above commented on, with her dress or slip and her shoes. Just makes it so 'real' to see these photos.

What a beautiful girl who had so much going for her. I'm oddly drawn to this story and yet find it so sad... :((

Enerchi -- Beautiful dress!

So sad for the family of this woman. Her poor husband!

Thanks TP! It was a looooong time ago - love the "DALLAS" sized puffy shoulders, eh???

Yes, it is so sad and such a waste, as we've all been saying, but I can't stop being drawn to the story. :(sad

Same here Enerchi, that's why my family begged me to stop talking about it! I think Haven explained it very well -- it's how some of us process tragedy.

And puffy shoulders rock!

Reading the article, I still don't know what happened. In one description she was perched or standing near the river, and the hem of her dress got soaked and it pulls her down and she is yelling I'm slipping I'm slipping. But the photographer then says the story she wanted a photo of herself floating in the river. Which is it? In one it was a horrifying possibly preventalbe accident, the other was very poor judgement (both on part of bride and photographer).

Looking at the picture of where it happened, there is so much difference between a fashion shoot in a fountain or bathtub with someone right by to lift you, versus what is slippery rocked shore near a fast moving, deep river.

Part of me is really angry at the photographer. Even if a friend, they are acting as the expert, and should say "no" or we are not going to do that if something is unsafe, etc. He should have said something, or had some kind of safety precautions in place, such as a tow rope and/or razor/ exacto knife to cut away the dress if the unthinkable occured. If she just had a knife, to cut away the heavy part of the dress, she would probably still be alive.

I'd argue that if they even thought there would be a remote possibility that it was dangerous they wouldn't have done it. So preparations for potential problems probably wouldn't have entered into it. I ask though, what makes people think a situation is safe. Neither the woman nor the photographer appeared to even consider the possibility of a mishap. Why? Probably as haven said, a lack of understanding of how dangerous moving water can be.
