I think this is going to be part of DH's Christmas present. Is there a make and model you guys recommend?

Don't really think spending more than 200 is worth it, and if I could spend less it would open up the budget for other things.

We have an HDTV LCD 40 inch Flat screen 1080p and a nice but older Onkyo (but not hooked up) surround sound. And an Xbox. And we subscribe to Comcast HD programing (have no idea if any of this is necessary info, just posting it in case it is)

Two months ago DH and I picked up a Samsung Blu-ray Disc Player (BD-D5100) for our HDTV - it plays Blu-rays (wow - such crystal definition), and it also plays regular DVDs and music CDs - just one slot - pop in the disk and the machine reads it. Using a USB connector, you can also play multimedia files (MP3, JPEG, etc) from a USB storage device (have not done this yet, but we thought it'd be great to check out photos on the big screen). And if you have a network connection (we don't), it can do even more. There were more expensive models, but this one had all the features (and more) that we were looking for - I think the regular price is $100 and we bought it on sale for $90 - bonus points for easy set-up and trim box.

We have a playstation 3 for blu ray, which works great plus we can use it to play games, watch netflix, etc. It's pretty awesome.

+1 They are awesome :)

Yep I was going to recommend a PS3 too. When we moved into our new house we went to Magnolia and bought all new equip (tv, surround sound, receiver, etc) and we kept our PS3 because it works well as a blue ray player and gaming, although we don't play games on it lol!

Well crap. We went to Best Buys double points event and came home with both of these, planning to return one (we only have one TV so we don't need multiple anything).

DH has an Xbox 360.

But after reading online we're just confused about what to keep and what to return.

So we have the BD-D5100 from Samsung for 80 bucks and the PS2 (plus a game DH wanted) for 300.
