Can parents that are both positive blood type have a child with negative blood factor? Is there any change?

I don''t believe so. Two positives equal a positive and two negatives equal a negative.

Well, that's what I always thought. But my DD just found out she is B–. I am O+ and husband is B+. I am guessing the – could be passed down as a recessive gene from both parents?

swingirl, you are right; Rh neg is autosomal recessive.

Rh- is a recessive gene, and can very well be passed down from two Rh+ blood type parents with (Rh+, Rh-) genotype.

This can DEFINATELY happen. There are two alleles responsible for this determination. Rh+ is dominant so if a parent carries RH+ and RH- they will beconsidered RH+. Only if a person carries 2 Rh-, are they Rh-.

Mom Rh+ Rh-

Rh+ Rh+Rh+ Rh+Rh-

Rh- Rh-Rh+ Rh-Rh-

Dad

IF both mom and dad are Rh+, but carry the recessive Rh- allele. They have a 25% of having a child that is RH- (pink kid) and 75% of having children that are Rh+ (green kids).

This is as simple as I could make, it let me know if you need further clarification. Genetics can get confusing.

Yep, it''s possible if the baby inherited a recessive negative allele from each parent.

yes, correct here. RH negative can be recessively carried by a rh positive parent, resulting in a negative blood type child.

Yes, my parents are both positive (A+ and O+) and I''m negative (A-). In full, I think my parents'' blood types are actually A+ - and 0 + -, which still makes them positive blood types since the + is dominant. I obviously inherited the negatives (-) from both sides instead of the positives, which makes my blood type negative ( - -) overall.

I have the wrong blood type on my birth certificate! It says B-, but I had my blood typed during my senior year of high school and came up AB-. I insisted on repeating the test because I thought something had gone wrong, but it came up AB- again. If my younger brother and I didn't look EXACTLY alike in baby photos, I'd wonder if I was switched at birth...

I am O- (my phenotype is cde/cde, I'm Rh-) and my husband is O+ and his phenotype is (cde/cDE.) Little d is Rh-, big D is Rh+. We have a 50/50 shot of having an O+ or O- child.

All Rh- (negative blood type) folks are homozygous for being negative to the Rh factor -- however, Rh+ folks can be heterzygous -- meaning one Rh+ gene, one Rh- gene. So yes, it is possible and pretty common!
