Kudos for finally dumping that slave-owning president, Jackson. :knockout:
Good riddance!

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-36096151

"Civil rights activist Harriet Tubman will be the first woman to appear on a US banknote for more than a century.
The African-American abolitionist will be featured on the new $20 bill, the US Treasury Department said."

Next we gotta get, "In God We Trust" off the currency of a country that pretends to have separation of church and state.

Assuming every good American is a theist is wrong and deeply un-American.
Americans vary.

Wonderful news! Harriet Tubman was a courageous and inspiring woman and I'm so glad she is being recognized on the $20!!!
And maybe there will be more good news in the future...

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/21/us/women-currency-treasury-harriet-tubman.html?_r=0

While Hamilton would remain on the $10, and Abraham Lincoln on the $5s, images of women would be added to the back of both...

The picture of the Treasury building on the back of the $10 bill would be replaced with a depiction of a 1913 march in support of women’s right to vote that ended at the building, along with portraits of five suffrage leaders: Lucretia Mott, Sojourner Truth, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Alice Paul and Susan B. Anthony, who in more recent years was on an unpopular $1 coin until minting ceased.

On the flip side of the $5 bill, the Lincoln Memorial would remain, but as the backdrop for the 1939 performance there of Marian Anderson, the African-American opera star, after she was barred from singing at the segregated Constitution Hall nearby. Sharing space on the rear would be images of Eleanor Roosevelt, the first lady who arranged Anderson’s Lincoln Memorial performance, and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who in 1963 delivered his “I have a dream” speech from its steps.

The final redesigns will be unveiled in 2020, the centennial of the 19th Amendment establishing women’s suffrage, and will not go into wide circulation until later in the decade, starting with the new $10 note.

Yay for progress and growth towards a more positive America. :appl:

I am very happy to see this progress - not because she is a woman but because she is a great person who did great things to change this country for the better.

I am super excited about this but then I read something disturbing. I read they are NOT removing Jackson from the $20 bill. They are just moving him to the back. Anyone know if that's true or a rumor? If its true, oh the irony to have him on there with her. He needs to be removed and let her shine on her own!

No I think they are replacing him thankfully.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2016/04/20/report-lew-considered-anthony-10-bill/83274530/

WASHINGTON — Abolitionist Harriet Tubman's image will appear on a new series of $20 bills, becoming the first African-American to appear on U.S. paper currency and the first woman in more than a century, the Treasury Department announced Wednesday.

In replacing replace President Andrew Jackson on the front of the $20 bill, the Treasury Department abandoned a previous plan to have a woman replace founding father Alexander Hamilton on the $10.

Nope, unfortunately they are just moving him to the back, straight from the U.S. treasury website:

https://www.treasury.gov/press-center/press-releases/Pages/jl0436.aspx

So Harriet Tubman, a former slave and then abolitionist, a great woman will be sharing the bill with a former slave owner and someone who tried to commit genocide against native Americans so he could steal their land. I think its so wrong he will still be on the bill.

Its being reported he is being replaced, but that's tricky wording because he is only being relaced on the front. More accurate is he is being moved.
