Mine is amethyst, which I love in the abstract ... but I''m no more likely to buy it than I am anything else. I appreciate the historical significance, but that''s about as far as it goes ....

Birthstones do have a little meaning for me because they remind me of people I love. Specifically, garnets for my mom, aquamarine for my daughter, and ruby for my son. I tend to lean towards jewelry having these stones. I treated myself to an inexpensive aquamarine pendant on ebay recently and I love it, I think of my daughter everytime I wear it. I hope that doesn''t sound silly.
eta: I think another reason is that when I was a kid my mother would make a big deal out of buying birthstone jewelry for people, and she always wore jewelry with her birthstone as well. So I guess birthstones remind me of my childhood!
Aw, thanks Lady, you''re sweet for saying that! And I certainly like gemstones other than birthstones of family members...I absolutely love emeralds, and I don''t know anyone born in May!Date: 11/22/2009 7:43:12 AM

It doesn''t sound silly - it is meaningful to you. It may not be meaningful to other people, but it makes you smile - so there!
That is a beautiful peridot. My birthstone is peridot, too. Most I've seen have a very yellow tone and don't work well with my skin tone. I've chosen other green gems to stand in. I have an emerald and a tsavorite, which get the job doneDate: 11/22/2009 9:41:58 PM

Yes, mine is peridot and I finally found the perfect color! I've always loved green and have had some sort of peridot in my collection.
My DSIL loves peridot and has one as her ER set in platinum with diamonds.
