Hi everyone! I got the heads up from elle, since it looks like they have been waiting a few days to hear about me. Sorry ladies. I don't usually check the "Who's Who" forum...not sure why?
33.gif
But I will now!!! (so exciting!)

First and foremost, I'd like to thank the Academy...er...I mean Dreamgirl! Thanks sweetie for starting this. Im really really excited right now. Its like being inaugurated into the PS club or something...

Give me a few to gather my thoughts (and finish some work-related stuff) and I'll be back to tell you all a little more about Bia.

lol you are too cute! Your welcome darling! Isn't it so exciting? I loved getting my own thread too! I just hope it never gets locked up to where we can't post in it anymore.
2.gif
You know me, I've always got lots to share! It sure does make you feel extra special in the PS community.
Actually, I never really came over here either and the lovely miss elle herself started a thread just for me! Then I thought my girl Bia needs her own thread too!!!

Okay, I can sit down and write without any pesky interruptions!

Its funny I always have a lot to say about myself, but when I have to sit here and think about it, I have a serious case of writers block.

hmmmmm...

I guess I'll start off by telling you all why I came to PS...

About a year ago (10 months) my BF told me that he wanted to marry me. At that time, we'd been together almost 6 years, so naturally I was really excited about starting this chapter in our relationship. Because I LOVE diamonds I started researching rings: diamond shapes, specs, settings, you ladies know the drill. In my research I would keep finding PS in my search options. So I started lurking, and in late-March of this year, I joined! I've been hooked since that day and quite honestly, I am very grateful to this community, as it helped me occupy my obsession with becoming engaged (still not engaged BTW
29.gif
). I've also made some great friends, so thank you!

I was born (generic, I know! Writing is not my forte
3.gif
) on the North Shore of Massachusetts, approx 35 min from Boston. Think "sleepy New England town" and that's where I'm from. I loved it! It was a great place to grow up and my best childhood memories are there. I am Hispanic, as my parents are from South America (Colombia), so I speak both English and Spanish fluently. My immediate family is small--just my parents and my one brother who is 3 years my junior--but my extended family is quite large, and we are all very close. When I was 12, my family moved to Florida. At the time it seemed a lot of people from the Northeast were heading south, and my father, not loving the New England winters, joined the bandwagon--the majority of my extended family would soon follow. I hated it immediately. It just wasn't "home." However, after 4 years, the folks decided to move back to Mass--much to my delight--because the economy (for small business owners particularly) just wasn't as lucrative. So I finished HS in Boston at an all-girls catholic HS. And I have to say, I really loved my teen years. I loved HS, even though it was all girls and Catholic (but by then I was used to it--I am a product of the parochial school system). I think it was because I was involved in a lot of activities. The most important was dance (ballet) which I did up until I graduated from HS. Even though I gave it up
39.gif
I still love it, and frequently drag whomever I can to the ballet in the city!

After HS, I applied to various universities around the country. I was ready to go anywhere away from my parents LOL. I think its because my parents were of the semi-strict variety and I've always had a very independent spirit. My mom says I was born on my exact due date (she seems to think I was so ready, I jumped out--esp since I was born in under 3 hours from start of labor to finish!) and always loved to be on the move, talking to people, asking questions, and her trailing behind me. She tells me on my first day of kindergarten, she was very emotional and I told her, "Don't cry Mami, I'll be home soon." So yea, I thought I'd break out for college...
3.gif
I was thinking maybe California. Didn't happen. I ended up being accepted into Boston College, and only for that reason, my parents were able to convince me to stay in Mass. BC was great for the most part. I was able to meet a lot of people from all different parts of the country--the world really--and I loved that. The only problem was, it didn't feel like a true college experience because I wasn't living on campus. I mean, now it makes sense that I'd commute from my aunt's house 10 min away, but at the time I wanted to dorm...in a way I felt left out. But I had a good time and made really good grades. After my freshman year, during finals actually, we found out that my grandfather very very ill. In fact, he had only a few weeks. We flew to FL a few days later. For some reason, when we got there, my grandfather miraculously got better. So things were good. I decided to stay in FL for the summer to help my grandmother with my grandfather and hang out with my cousins (I figured since I was 19 now, I'd take advantage of the freedom!). That didn't really happen either. My aunts and uncles were worse than my parents! So much of my time was spent at home hanging with family or going to church on Sundays (yuck!). Towards the end of the summer my grandfather was re-admitted to the hospital and hospice was brought in. My grandmother was so distraught and everyone else was so busy that I decided to stay in FL and take a student leave of absence to help take care of her while she cared for him. It was really hard and he passed away a few months later.

Shortly after my grandfather died, my cousins and I, along with a few friends, went to visit my aunt in Miami to just get away from it all. It was there that I met you-know-who
31.gif
. After that day, my life changed. Just like that. Because he was there on vacation, I only got to see him twice before he left back to NY but we exchanged numbers and literally (not an exaggeration) spoke every single day after that. Our phone bills were outrageous! Since I felt like I was in love
30.gif
I decided I couldn't stay in FL because I had to give this relationship a real shot...so I moved again
9.gif

I'll be back to post the rest in a bit--dinnertime! If you have any questions, please ask away
1.gif

Okay...Let's see.

So, I moved back to Boston to continue my LDR with my BF. We started seeing eachother every month, sometimes twice a month. I was going to school and working part-time but my heart just wasn't in it. I really felt like I was missing out not being able to spend more time with my him, like my girlfriends were able to do with their SOs. So he and I talked and decided that it might make sense for me to move to NYC to be closer to him. I had always wanted to try out NYC and this just seemed like the perfect opportunity, plus I was in transition (as I like to call it--as you can see, I was always moving around) so it was an easy decision, apart from leaving my parents and bro. Although my parents were supportive (under the stipulation that I find a job as a live-in nanny so I wasn't completely alone in a strange city), the rest of my family was not. In fact, I think because of 9/11, the idea of my moving to NY terrified them. But I went anyway! I got a great job as a nanny with a family I adored. It worked out perfectly because I was able to go to school full-time (I transferred to Fordham Univ) and make a paycheck, while still having a "family" to help me in a new city. This was a great time for BF and I. We started spending a lot of time together, and even though there were some rough bumps in the road (minor things attributed to our opposite personalities and to being young and stupid!) we spent this time having fun and falling in love.

I moved in with him a couple of years ago, and got a puppy (that we ADORE
30.gif
)...and the rest is history. Now we are looking forward to starting our lives together and to having some of what both our parents share, which is everlasting love.

Some factoids about me:

Favorite Music:
I love love love to dance and I love all music. My favorite genres are rock/indie/alternative (I love r&b/dance/house too!)--I am an 80's music freak (90's too!) My favorite band of all time is The Cure, but I also love: Smashing Pumpkins, Jawbreaker, Radiohead, Coldplay, Cranberries, Pearl Jam, Jeff Buckley, Jimi Hendrix, Mazzy Star, Prince...the list goes on forever.

Food: I love all bad food. I love all good food too. In fact, I love all food! Thankfully my boyfriend is a health nut and he keeps me on track. Because of him we eat a lot of whole, organic foods. Growing up in a Latin household I got used to eating a lot of meat and a lot of starchy foods...all delicious but not always the healthiest...but I love it and over the years have learned ways to make much of the same but just in a healthier way.

Movies: I am a huge, HUGE Stanley Kubrick fan...love all his movies (YES! Even EYES WIDE SHUT!). I love fantasy, horrors and dramas especially but sometimes I'll get in a chick flick or two, but they aren't usually my favorite (its weird because I am sort of a girly-girl...).

Favorite things: I love jewelry. I especially love diamonds. I have a small collection, which I hope will be growing in the next few weeks (AHEM!!!). I love shoes, but then, who doesn't? I collect Christmas ornaments...but again, so do A LOT of people
41.gif
LOL...really I collect them from all over and have too many to put on my tree each year.

That's all I can think of right now...I'm sure more will come to me.

A girl after my own heart! Love your taste in music. Radiohead is one of my favorite bands of all times! Most of your other picks are right up my alley as well.

Are you done with school now, or still working on a degree?

My favorite Stanley Kubrick films are : Clockwork Orange (Malcolm McDonald is awesome in that film--he''s such a freak!), Lolita, Full Metal Jacket, Dr. Strangelove, The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut (I love how the movies pokes fun at Tom Cruise''s character!).

My other favorite directors are, of course, Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola. I also love Guillermo del Toro (love foreign films!), he directed Pans Labyrinth, Hellboy and is currently working on The Hobbit! Can''t wait to see that.

Thanks mama! You, my dear, are a very cool chick!

Radiohead is one of my top 5, without a doubt. I saw them once in concert and they are sooooo good. My BF is also a music nut, he plays electric guitar and drums (that was one of the things that made me fall so head over heels for him--gotta love a musician
30.gif
), and so we try to see as many concerts as possible. Have you heard of Rogue Wave? They are a band from California that we saw in concert not long ago...they are really good, you might like them if you like a lot of the bands I do.

To answer your question:

I am currently in grad school getting my MS in Industrial Organizational Psychology and Organizational Development. I have a psychology background from undergrad, but because I didn''t want to go for my PhD (5 more years of school is just too much! and Masters in Psych can be very limiting), I wanted to find something that would let me work in the business world but still work directly with people. Organizational Development is a lot of Human Resources, and Corporate Organization. Living and working in the NYC area, it made sense to get a degree that will be conducive to NY''s financial, business and banking climate/culture. What I really want to do is work in Health and Wellness...sort of helping companies re-organize and offer their employees better working benefits and a greater overall working environment--sort of like what Google has been able to do with their employees. I think many companies are looking in that direction because the ways of the old corporations are just not going to be able to compete anymore...think of all the major financial firms that have gone under in the last year...essentially out of NOWHERE!

Although with the economy the way it is, it might be awhile before I land that great job. Right now I''m working at the university, as an office manager/assistant and although its not terribly challenging (can''t you tell, as I am always on PS!!!) it gives me a decent paycheck and its very flexible. The best perk is that its pays for school, which is awesome!

Definitely not alone. Although, you and I might be the only two!!! LOL

Great, great movie. I love the chemistry between Nicole Kidman and her ex. She is fantastic on her own too--the laughing fit she has in the beginning when she tells him about her dream cracks me up every single time!!! She was so beautiful in those days.... Now, to me anyway, she is still gorgeous but she looks hard (and a little stretched around the eyes...

Never heard of Rogue Wave, but I should definitely check them out!

That''s actually hilarious that you''re doing a masters in IOP/OD. I finish up my bachelors in May (Sociology) and am looking to start my MS in HR/OD. Not sure if I''m going to start right away on a masters, or if I want to work for 3-5 years, and then go back. I may just get my HR/OD cert (its 5 classes or so, that can be used for my MS) then take the GMAT and go back for my masters. I''ve always wanted to go into HR.

Ok, I really need to leave for my final now. I shall check up on your thread in a bit!

How funny is that! See this is what I love so much about PS! You learn so much about everyone...and in most cases you actually have a lot more in common than just diamonds!

I think going for your Masters in HR/OD would be a great idea--it is definitely a degree you can use almost anywhere elle, and that's important because the demand for certain fields always changes, BUT HR will likely always be around as long as real people work for companies. I know how you feel though. I want to be working in the field too. I can't wait to graduate! I think doing the certification is smart. This way you can try it out and see if you like it. Then you can get to work on the pesky GMAT. I didn't take the GMAT--thank God b/c my math skills are horrendous!--but I did take the GRE, and that wasn't a walk in the park either. I'm sure you'll do fine though, you're a smart a cookie.

Good luck on your final!

Yea, I really loved the story line of Pans Labyrinth. It was so fresh and different. Have you seen The Orphanage? If you like del Toro''s movies, you might really like this one (Director: Juan Antonio Bayona). I happened to love it, but I love foreign flicks from Spain...especially this group of actors.

As for Sophia Coppola, I loved The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation. I haven''t seen Marie Antoinette. The only reason is, I''m not a huge Kirsten Dunst fan...but I''ll give it a shot if you''re recommending it

I fully understand. I''m still here and I''ll still be waiting!

I''ve been thinking about posting some stuff in my Who''s Who page. I think I''ll do that......

Who is your favorite character?
Skippy, Golden Girls is my favorite sitcom of all time. I crack up every time I watch it and I''ve seen every episode a million times. In fact, I had been watching the reruns on Lifetime since I was a little girl. I was very sad when Lifetime stopped airing it last year (what was that about?!) and then HAPPY
36.gif
when WEtv began airing it a few months ago. Now I get my fill every day (for two hours or more if I''m lucky!). I''ve been sick, so last night I got comfy on the couch and watched 3 hours back to back.
9.gif

It''s really hard to choose, but I''d have to say my favorite GG is Rose. I love her. I love that she''s a ditz and a comedian, naive and sweet, but also has a b***iness about her. And that she''s a die-hard competitor, who hates to lose. Cracks me up!

But, honestly, they are all amazingly talented women. Dorothy (the lovely-recently departed
39.gif
-Bea Arthur) is smart, cynical and hilarious. Blanche, with her sexy swagger, and inflated opinions of herself, I just love her. Sophia was a natural comedian...and made the show what it was.

Me too; I love Golden Girls! I have some of the dvd's!!!! I bought a few because I was worried they would not show reruns; my sister loves the show too! I noticed the other day it wasn't on Lifetime but did find it on the Hallmark channel.

Do you have a favorite episode or episodes?

I know I was so sad when Dorothy (Bea) passed away recently. I loved her character because she is such a strong lady; she would be a person I would want to get advice from since she says it like it is. Rose is precious! Sophia always cracks me up! The characters mesh so well!!!
9.gif
Also, they were very progressive during that time in their subject matters which I think is cool!

If I ever have a bad day I just watch the Golden Girls and life is good. hehe Are you that way too?

I am. In fact, watching that show is all about 'me' time. It's not just a guilty pleasure, it's comforting...hard to explain but I think you can relate. It's like friends. I know a lot of people felt that way about SATC. I liked SATC, but not more than my girls.

FI never watched the show but when he's on the computer he can't help but watch with me. I can tell he likes it because he always laughs. His favorite is Sophia, I think. LOL. I know he'll take GG over SATC any day of the week.
3.gif

Favorite episode. Hmmmm tough one. I loved the one during the hurricane, when Stan and Dorothy have to pretend to be married, and Blanche and Rose pretend to be nuns on account of Sophia's brother who is pretending to still be a priest. LOL. I also loved the one when they all think they get stood up on V-Day. And they reminisce. They go to that nudist hotel, and are all uptight, but finally they decide to let loose. Remember they go down to dinner and are horrified to learn that nudists always dress for dinner! There are so many to name. Some are better than others but they are all good. I also love that they find a way to set the stage for a serious issue, but still add humor, i.e., Rose and her sleeping pill addiction, or AIDS, pregnancy, domestic abuse, gambling, etc.

What's your favorite episode?

ETA: WEtv (Bridezilla channel) shoes it M-F from 5-8. Yup, three hours every single day!

I read your Who''s Who; you sound like such a good soul to stay with your grandma and help her out. I am very sorry about your grandfather.
Yay for having a wonderful guy!!! Sounds like life is good!

I do relate to thinking the Golden Girls are like comfort food for the soul!

The only other people I know who love it as much as me, is my sister, cousin and now you!!! hehe I bet there are others out there!

Oh there are so many episodes I love; I loved when Blanche would try and flirt with the neighbor the doctor who was on the other sitcom, Empty Nest. Oh the nudist colony one was funny! I like the game show one where Rose booked the hotel but there was no room and they had to sleep in the hotel lobby. Also, when Rose took Dorthoy and Blanche to St. Olf (sp?) and they rode on the back of the wagon. I also liked the one where they were all together for Christmas (one of the earlier episodes) and they gave the diner owner a night off to be with his family. I love them all; I laugh every time I watch an episode.

Did you watch them when they came out? Or were you too young? I watch them when they first came out; I would watch it with my mom and sister. I don''t have WEtv. lol to the Bridezilla channel.

Do you like to cook?

I love them all; I laugh every time I watch an episode.

Did you watch them when they came out? Or were you too young? I watch them when they first came out; I would watch it with my mom and sister. I don''t have WEtv. lol to the Bridezilla channel.

Do you like to cook?
I started watching GG on Lifetime when they were already reruns (mid 90''s). I''m 27 now, but was probably too young to see them on network TV. My mom said she watched original episodes though, so that''s probably why I started watching too.
BTW, people make fun of me all the time for liking the show so much, but I SO don''t care!

As for my FI, yes, he is a wonderful guy, I got very lucky on that front. Thank you for saying so!

Yes, I love to cook! I am always looking up new recipes and trying new things. I will eat anything (very few exceptions) and cook anything. My FI rarely eats meat (I eat very little as a result), so I''m always trying to find new fish and veggie recipes. I''m also thinking about taking a cooking class for fun...trying to bribe my friends to go with me, because they are city girls and don''t like to cook. If I promise them drinks afterwards, then they might agree to go. Lushes that they are...
