Betsy DeVos Nomination Approved

And it keeps getting worse.....

Every day I wake up wondering, "how will it get worse today?"

This is our life now.

I know more than a few teachers shedding tears today.

Tragically I'm among them. Nauseous and tearful today.

So you guys are complaining because a woman who doesn't believe in public schools and doesn't understand the smallest thing about education has been confirmed as education secretary? You liberal snowflakes. Always whining.

I'm particularly disgusted in Susan Collins of Maine who I have always respected as a moderate with some facility for critical thought.

My daughter is a student teacher. She is among them too.

The result of DeVos' detrimental effect is that people in our country will be dumber for generations to come. The US is on the path of decline in so many ways and at a rapid pace. :nono:

Went into a grocery store the other day. Made a purchase. The cash register was not working properly, so it could not tell the cashier the correct change to give back to me.

She could not figure it out and I had to help her - a high school student. And this has happened quite a few times.

Many colleges have a so called 13th grade to help many catch up to where they should be.

Look at the test scores in English and Math.

SAT scores at lowest level in 10 years. Just google it.

So much for the quality of our public schools NOW.

Many have become so dependent on auto correct that when they have to manually fill out a job application they cannot correctly spell half the words.

......so the solution is to hire an incompetent and inexperienced billionaire??? I think not.

As opposed to whom, the last one who held the post?

Judging by the above, she certainly was not.

A big thanks to all teachers. I was in the classroom for many years before changing careers and know how hard you work.
Is your major concern that she will institute school choice? If so, what are your worries about that?

Because "school choice" is her nice way of saying that she wants to essentially de-fund public schools in favor of private (read: religious) schools. Here's an excerpt from an interview she did in 2001.

Asked whether Christian schools should continue to rely on giving—rather than pushing for taxpayer money through vouchers—Betsy DeVos replied, "There are not enough philanthropic dollars in America to fund what is currently the need in education...Our desire is to confront the culture in ways that will continue to advance God's kingdom."

Added Dick DeVos: "As we look at many communities in our country, the church has been displaced by the public school as the center for activity...t is certainly our hope that more and more churches will get more and more active and engaged in education."

She wants to tear down the barrier between church and state.

I didn't think that was possible, considering the number of kids bagging school/college to flaunt sex toys in protest of others' second amendment rights, and replicating the likes of Madonna that it's a-okay to "be" that which you claim to detest.

People will clearly defend *any* level of incompetence before admitting to being wrong, huh?

Oh yeah. And the worse it gets, the more they pretzel. If I've learned anything from the last 12 days, the whole argument that "a candidate who will honor of the constitution is our #1 priority!" is a load. of. crap. What they really mean is upholding a specific amendment.

LOL.

I think it's interesting that so many teachers/educators have found tremendous fault with DeVos - I come from a family of teachers/educators/administrators, (went to school for it myself), and have a very large network of teacher friends - NOT ONE supports DeVos, even the Trump voters. They are reluctant to admit it, but they will/are.

What does that tell a logical person - a person willing to listen? What can you glean from that?

I also wonder how many who are "just fine" with her actually have children in school right now. If not, perhaps that's why her glaring inadequacies remain hidden to their eyes.

I think the ones who are "just fine" with her haven't actually looked into her beyond what the administration tells them (she's great!), so they just vomit that back. Or they decide that it can't get worse, because everything is SO TERRIBLE NOW!

I think someone might need to state a position on the situation AND see that situation play out for some time in order to have any measurable result from which to admit or be found 'wrong'.

But what do I know? I didn't skip school much, and I don't look up to nor model my behavior after women who ponder bombing the WH, discuss their kid's genitalia on social media, or use offensive racial slurs in an effort to boost their child's self-worth.
