I have some jewelry that DD definitely does not want and I haven''t worn since I was a teen. Much of it are gold necklaces and some gold gemstone rings.

The rings, necklaces, and charm bracelets are in great shape and I would just like to sell them and use the money for a project (still undecided). I also have a lot of straggler pieces, herringbone necklaces and bracelets that has been twisted and many lone earrings in which I lost the mate.

Are there special jewelers that would buy the good pieces and where do you recommend for the broken and straggler pieces?

I asked my jeweler where to send scrap pieces to, and he gave me his recycler''s information. Perhaps your jeweler might know someone as well?

It would be neat to see your old stuff, I do wonder if anyone ever started a ''show me your eighties jewelry'' thread?

Soocool - if you look in the jewelry section of your phone book, you''ll see local jewelers who buy scrap gold. Call around and find one that buys for a decent price. When I did this a while back, there was a wide range of amounts. Also, it makes a difference if there''s stones still in the pieces. Overall, it''s easy and you don''t have to risk having the scrap gold lost in the mail. I''m weary of those companies that have a person send stuff in an envelope to them.

There are several ways to sell old jewelry...pawn it, scrap it, sell it to a friend or family member, garage sale, consign it to a jeweler,Ebay,Craigs list, news paper(this way is not the most rccomended) or trade it toward new jewelry at a pawn or jeweler.

I took my stuff to a local jeweler that does custom work, he''s been advertising "sell old gold" plus I wanted to get to know him for a future project. I sorted and bagged all my stuff according to stamps so we both knew exactly what I had. He gave me back the stones (diamonds, sapphires, Tanzanite) and I got just under $4000.

There is a local place that says they have their own refinery but I can''t say if I would have gotten anymore money than I did because my guy used the daily prices to calculate the scrap value. IN the end he gave me back two pieces that would fetch more money sold as is. I found a site (not the one we all know) where I''ll try to sell them.
