so we went to look at erings today so that she could see what she likes. from looking on the internet she thought she wanted a cathedral setting with a thick (wide) band. after seeing them she feels differently so am very glad we went. we went to helzberg and she chose a radiant star 1ct six prong solitaire. very pretty and looked bigger than a carat. then we went to jared. she loves the idea of calling her friends and saying "he went to jared!" lol. i looked on my own as she was with the sa. i found a scott kay from their contemporary collection. it is so beautiful. she loves it too. he wrote down the model number for me so that when i go back with her future fiance we will know which one it is. when i went to the website and searched the number it did not come up so i cannot show you the one. we will then have to choose a diamond for her. i have heard talk of scott kay on here. so i think he is a decent designer, but i wonder what you think of jared being that it is a commercial type store.

Jareds has a different stock sku # number that they use, it doesn't correspond to Scott kay's number at all. I was just there today just to check out a Scott Kay setting in person they are very lovely. I was against purchasing from Jareds, but once I found out that Scott Kay was carried at their store, I did check them out. Now the setting I was interested in was $1260 at Jareds and at Pearlmans it was $1400. Granted that I would have to pay sales tax, I would have bought from them..yikes I know

but if I could get the same setting and am able to keep my diamond in the state, then I would purchase from Jared. They aren't making the setting so no big deal. It was either the hassle of sending off my diamond to pearlmans then they having to send it off to Scott kay for setting or just buy the setting from Jared, they would set it, and you just pick it up rather than having to wait in the mail. I didn't purchase from Jared but almost. I went to another local B&M for a completely different project. But that was my experience with Jared and the Scott Kay setting and what I would have chosen, had I not gone to another B&M

hi radiantquest :)

i''ve never bought anything at jareds, so i dont really have an opinion. scott kay''s stuff is carried at my local jeweler''s and some of his designs seem very lovely.

mainly i just wanted to say that i hope you had a fun time ring shopping! sometimes, shopping with someone else is even more fun than shopping for oneself; you get all the fun of looking and comparing...but none of the pain of paying!!

have a great weekend, radiant :)

Like any commercial B&M store, Jared carries a wide range of diamonds. They have the usual mall store fare, poorly cut and/or uncertified, which I would stay away from. They have the Leo diamonds, which are bright and sparkly but tend to be cut deep, also a very specific look (many smaller sparkles instead of fewer larger ones like a traditional round) and you also pay for the Leo name. IMO not worth it, although some PSers have Leo diamonds and love them. And they have the Peerless line, which are AGS ideal cut rounds and princesses. These rival the cut quality of Hearts on Fire, Whiteflash ACA, Infinity, GOG signature diamonds, etc., but they are VERY expensive.

There is one member, I think JasonFaber, who bought a diamond online and then brought it to Jared to be set in one of their settings. That would be a good way to save money and get a well-cut stone.
