We got back last night from the best b-day ever. We left our dog at a puppy hotel and drove across Snoqualmie pass. Got to the hotel right at check in time where we were greeted by a friendly staff and Cuvee (the 2-3 year old dog that runs around and can even sleep in your room if you let the staff know). Drove through the vineyard to our private cliffhouse and it was beautiful. There was a bottle of merlot and a chocolate b-day cake waiting in our room. I started the fireplace and we enjoyed a warm soak after our drive. Then we sat in front of the fire watching the sun go down over the Columbia River. We got dressed to go to dinner and sat in front of the fire some more until it was time to go.
And then, with the sun setting and me in my new dress, .... HE ASKED!
It was just perfect. Not too formal of wording. Not public. Just really us.
The evening continued as we went to Tendrils for a 4 course meal. We started with dessert (a chocolate-hazelnut cheesecake paired with a true ice wine). Then sunchoke soup. Farfale with black trumpet mushrooms & parmesan. (I had the cab, B had the cuvee). Main course was this amazing tenderloin in wine sauce with a butternut squash popover.
When we finished, they surprised me with another chocolate cake (glad we didn''t eat the other one yet)
I woke up to the sunrise out our window and enjoyed the morning with B sleeping next to me and the sparkling on my finger.
We each enjoyed a hot bath in the bathtub and dressed for breakfast. We were seated next to the window again and got to enjoy a great view of the Columbia. After breakfast we went back to our room to pack and then ate the chocolate cake in front of a fire with tea.
Barrell tasting got rescheduled so we checked out and went on a hike to get a better view of the river. Hiked back up the cliff and went to our barrell tasting. Tried 4 wines in the tasting room and then into the private area (wish I had pictures) with great rock walls. Tried another 6-8 wines in there and then out to the front area for another half dozen or so. (Tasting took 2 1/2 hours). One of the best parts of the tasting was watching the sparkling on my finger in the dim lighting of the barrell room.
Before driving (or any challenging walking) we sat at a picnic table on the hill overlooking the river & hotel and ate turkey sandwiches.
Pictures to follow soon!
