Has anyone had this or known someone who has? My boyfriend currently has it, and he got it 7 weeks ago. Basically, he had a virus in his ear, which caused something to swell internally which then hit a nerve and rendered the left side of his face paralized. He is seeing some slight improvements, but I am wondering if any of you have experience with this, how long did it take you to recover, and how slow was the recovery once you noticed it has started? I understand it will be completely different for everyone, but I''d like to hear from some of you! Thanks!

Oh, I''m sorry to hear this! My father had Bell''s palsy about 10 years ago, when he was 59 or so. It took him several months to fully recover. I hope your boyfriend has a speedier recovery.

My wedding photographer told us that he had Bell''s Palsy not too long before our wedding and the entire side of his face was paralyzed. He said his got better very quickly, relatively speaking-I think he said 6 or 8 weeks? I know it differs for everyone and I know some cases are more severe than others but I don''t know much more than that!

Has your boyfriend been to the doctor about it? If so, what did the doctor tell him about improvements? I hope he continues to see improvements and it goes away entirely soon!

I had Bell''s Palsy when I was in my late twenties. It''s not fun but I did recover fully within a few months. The most painful part was that my eye would not close. That eye would become very dry and tired. I rested it by putting a patch over it for part of each day. It was a LONG few months but I recovered fully, with no lingering problems. Best wishes for a very speedy recovery!

Gosh I am sorry, it's a scary thing. My BIL had it a few years ago after he had a bad virus. I believe it took less than 6 months to clear up. Just asked Hubby if that is correct he said yes, he was fine within 6 months.. HTH, good luck... Praying for a speedy recovery for your BF...

Yes he has been to the neurologist, opthamologist, and has physical therapy (massage and shock therapy) three times a week. He just started a new job early this summer, and stress is a factor in bell''s palsy, but he has always been very laid back. I think he''s on the road to recovery, the therapy will not cure it but it will help fight against muscle atrophy once the palsy goes away. They also have given him exercises to do at home, just to try to work the muscles of the left side of his face to strengthen them.

A co-worker of mine had bells palsy a few years ago. She claims that facial home ultrasound got rid of it.

HI:

My DH had Bell's Palsy a year after we were married. I noticed a marked facial droop one morning (he did not, nor did he feel anything), and we rushed to the Doctor. MD prescribed steriods and it abated. Never recurred.

cheers--Sharon
