I try to volunteer as much as I can throughout the year, but every holiday season I always look for an additional opportunity to give to those less fortunate. A good friend of mine passed along with website:
Be An Elf
It is an outside organization that is affiliated with post offices in several local communities. They go through all of the "Dear Santa" letters they receive and determine if they are from a needy child or family, based on what the children are asking for, i.e.....I need shoes or a warm winter coat, etc. Not "I want a flat screen TV and a Nintendo Wii....etc. So you can go to any participating post office and select a letter to actually fulfill the child''s Christmas wish from santa and then all items are delivered by the organization to the needy families.
I thought this was such a great opportunity and I can''t wait until they get some Dear Santa letters in so my BF and I can start filling the wishes of some of these children! They have some examples of letters on the website.
Just thought I''d pass along a great opportunity for anyone looking to do a little extra this time of year!
