Despite the torrential downpour outside i''d like to look forward to the weekend and am thinking of firing up our grill. One issue i have each summer is deciding what to serve WITH the barbeque, particularly when we have invited friends over.

So PS-ers - what are YOUR tried and true go-to BBQ sides? Salads? Veggies? Do tell! Recipes would be appreciated.

Thank you!

garlic bread
baked beans
potato salad

Salads and grilled veggies. My favourite salads are potato salad with a lemon/olive oil dressing rather than mayo (and no eggs- I don''t do eggs), pasta salad with lots of peppers and a vinagrette dressing (can you tell I hate mayo??) and spinach salad with strawberries, candied pecans, red onion, fig goat''s cheese and a slightly sweet red wine vinagrette dressing. I find a green salad and a potato or pasta salad go well together- something light and something a little more substantial.

Veggies taste great if you baste them with a little olive oil, sea salt and balsamic vinegar and throw them in a basket on the grill.

salad, potato salad, potato chips, raw veggies with dip, and rice krispies!

Having recently moved to Texas I''ve increased my bbq intake significantly. Some of the popular "traditional" texas bbq sides here are:

creamed corn
potato salad
cole slaw
beans and rice
green bean salad
corn on the cob
Texas Caviar you can google it for different variations on the recipe but its a tasty verion of pinto beans

I also had a really great side recently that they just called corn and tomato salad which was a super light salad made with corn kernals, tomato, cilantro, and a light tasty vinaigrette dressing. I think it would be even better if you added some chopped green pepper and black beans.

Baked beans
Corn
Coleslaw

ooh thank you to everyone for the wonderful suggestions. i am googling recipes for all the sides you''ve mentioned!

i tend to find BBQs very heavy so the light fresh salads sound amazing. i just may have to host a BBQ this long weekend!

thank you thank you thank you!

I find a lot of the traditional BBQ sides are really heavy, though so so good. We tend to do a lot of fresh veggie grilling when we grill at home. Our favorites are grilled zucchini and summer squash and grilled artichokes. We also do corn a lot when it''s in season.Other favorite sides are red potato salad, BBQ roasted potatoes, macaroni and pickle salad (sounds weird, but is SO GOOD!).
