I hate any kind of bean. Baked beans, Lima beans.... I will NOT eat any beans no matter how they are cooked.

So when you ban them, can we add Beets to the list too????

ha ha ha Lisa. I love nice cold beets in a salad. I never had fresh beets though, just the kind that came out of a can.

No, ban okra. Now there is one nasty veggie.

OMG fried okra is the best.
No. It''s just a FRIED nasty veggie.
38.gif

I never saw okra until I moved south; I was appalled that people actually eat that stuff. Yick.

Midwesterners have more sense. I''m convinced.
2.gif
Truthfully, I will only eat okra fried. When it''s not breaded and cooked the "normal" way, it grosses me out.

Speaking of the South, I think that''s the reason why I''m losing weight, I haven''t had any REAL FOOD in ages!

Linda, it''s not the ''taste'' so much as the ''texture''. There are very few things I won''t eat, but when I won''t touch something, it''s usually because of the ''texture''. Like hot oatmeal. Or tapioca. Can''t deal with either.
Holly,

You just hit the nail on the head....IT IS THE TEXTURE! My Mom used to make me sit at the table until I ate grits....YUK!!! I was 4 years old and she would make me sit there until I would gag myself sick trying to eat that crap...I still think it was child abuse to this day. I just couldn''t eat it....I had a hiatal hernia and GERD, undiagnosed as a child, and just got sick eating soft foods like that. Just thinking about oatmeal, etc. makes me gag!

Holly!!!!!!! You don''t like oatmeal??????? It is so good, with brown sugar and raisins. We cook it in the crock pot and add chopped apples. It is delicious and creamy.
18.gif

Ok, call me a weirdo, but I love Lima Beans
9.gif
9.gif
. I will only eat tomatoes, if I squeeze the icky ''snotty'' like stuff out of the middle.
No, can''t do the oatmeal. But I really only like oats in baked goods. Even oat cereals (Cheerios for instance) make me . . .
14.gif

I love limas! And, my apologies to Lorelei, tomatoes are my favorite food. Not those pale pink things they serve you in restaurants on your sandwich - - please! Real red vine ripened juicy tart tomatoes; yum! And here in Texas, we turn our tomatoes into that most delectable of condiments - - Salsa!!! I could eat salsa every day. Absolutely.

Absolutely, it's the texture. My stomach almost turns just thinking about it.
40.gif

And no, I have never had it fried penn, but somehow, I think it woul still gross me out....

loriken, my mom used to do the same thing, make me sit there until I had finished whatever was the disgusting veggie of the day, she served everything, seriously. Another urp worthy veg was steamed celery, again, with nothing on it. Do you know how gross that is? And why, WHY would one even think to do that to a veg that in it's normal state is delightfully crunchy and good?? The woman wasn't right when it came to food.
lol.gif

And, I remember one night it was broccoli, which I love now, but hated then. I couldn't have been more than 5 or 6, and I still remember her literally taking the fork and shoving the broc in my mouth until I was done. About 5 minutes later, I had to throw up, only both bathrooms were in use, so I just threw up in the hall on the carpet.
wobble2.gif

I almost think of it as child abuse too, like the scene out of Mommy Dearest. I never did that to my kids.

Fried okra is one of my favorite foods, but I won''t touch it with a ten foot pole if it isn''t fried! And I love grits so much, I would lick them off the friggin'' floor. Yeah, okay, maybe not...but I REEEEAAAALLY like ''em!

Boil okra for 2 minutes, cut them sideways, sprinkle bonito flakes and soy sauce.

FI hates okra.
I''ve never heard of fried okra. Is it the same idea as fried snicker bars, fried ice cream, fried artichoke hearts, fried everything?

Lima beans, soy beans, Asian dessert beans, mmmm
Any other beans, bleah.

tomatos = abomination.

I agree with Ellen too! Okra is one vegetable that will automatically trigger my gag reflex. All I have to do is see that nasty stuff. I even tried it fried again a few years ago to see if my taste buds had changed at all and you know what? I STILL HATE IT.

You can either beer batter the okra and fry it or run it thru egg and then cornmeal and fry it. Most of the time in the south, you find it done in cornmeal. It''s usually fried in a cast iron skillet.....

I love grits...and I am starting to think that there is something seriously wrong with the Pricescope community...or at least the members responding to this thread. I didn''t see that some of them don''t like grits, but I did see that some don''t like oatmeal. There are probably a lot of skinny women running around refusing to eat buttered grits and Lima beans, which are wonderful as far as I am concerned. Why else would they be so fattening? I mean, is chocolate mousse slimming? Gimme a break!

BTW, I never had okra until a few years ago. I had frozen okra. I liked it. When I ate at a Cracker Barrel I tried to get something green, so I ordered okra. To my dismay, I couldn''t discren the okra from the fish or the other side dish (hush puppies, maybe?) I ordered They were all beige and fried. That''s not my idea of food!

Linda, How do you crock pot oatmeal? I am seriously wanting to do that. I had some oatmeal in Paris once that was so creamy, I figure it had to be cooked forever and maybe even strained. Cream didn''t hurt either.

I love garden fresh tomatoes--the smell of rubbing the leaves when they''re picked is intoxicating.
Okra--I live in the south and no way no how do I like the stuff. Phlegm says it all.

I learned to love beans in the Peace Corps. Ate a lot of them.

Not beans - MUSHROOMS. Blegh!
