Do you want to know how my health nut mother used to serve this to us? Steamed, with nothing on it, at all.

Hairy on the outside, like snot on the inside.

I used to throw them behind the chest freezer in the kitchen when she wasn't looking.

I also love beets. I'm feeling conspiracy theory brewing here.... I grew up with vegetable gardens, so I like vegetables. My grandmother used to pick fiddleheads (similar to okra) and wild mushrooms and fry them up too. This thread is making me hungry actually.

I had okra in a spicy soup, with other veggies. I loved it. Maybe with all of the spices, I couldn''t taste what it really tastes like??????

No, can''t do the oatmeal. But I really only like oats in baked goods. Even oat cereals (Cheerios for instance) make me . . .

I love limas! And, my apologies to Lorelei, tomatoes are my favorite food. Not those pale pink things they serve you in restaurants on your sandwich - - please! Real red vine ripened juicy tart tomatoes; yum! And here in Texas, we turn our tomatoes into that most delectable of condiments - - Salsa!!! I could eat salsa every day. Absolutely.

ha ha ha Lisa. I love nice cold beets in a salad. I never had fresh beets though, just the kind that came out of a can.
