Hi ladies! We just got back from a week of wedding planning. D''s parents flew in from the UK, so both families came together for it all, and for the most part, it was great!

Some highlights:

- Had our couples'' shower -- AWESOME. Will post pics later. 30 of our family friends and Kentucky BBQ - what could be better?

- Had my hair/makeup trial. Hair is workable, makeup is TBD. Will of course post photos.

- Have a wedding planning TEAM now - feel much better now that MIA coordinator is out of the picture.

- Had our tasting at the reception site -- we tried 8 hors d''oeuvres, 4 wines and 4 entrees! Will post details later!

- Picked out rehearsal dinner menu - will post details later!

- Finalized flowers order and managed to get it all under budget - hooray!

- Dropped off our invites to the calligrapher - will be asking for your input on font later!

- Had dinner with our priest and finalized all paperwork at the Cathedral.

- Picked out men''s tuxes and feel reasonably happy with them, which is OK considering I had hoped D would buy a tux.

- Booked steamer for day-of, booked videographer

- Picked out goodies for out-of-town bags

- Created rehearsal day and wedding day itinerary and feel GREAT about it all - hooray!

Sorry to do a big info dump on you and then leave, but we''ve got to head to Mass. I will hopefully be able to upload pics later today, and if not today, then tomorrow. I can''t wait to have your input! I am feeling like a huge weight has been lifted, thank God!

Wow you got a lot done!!! Did you see the missing wedding planner at all? Or did you fire her?

We had a very civilized meeting where she really couldn''t argue against anything we said, so it was easy to let her go. What a relief to be over that!

I forgot to mention, we also picked our cake design. We found a new baker and she''s awesome. Now just need to narrow down the flavours!

Krissie honey. Just reading your list makes me tired!! God bless you and your energy! You rock with the planning lady!!!

Well done!! I''m so glad you managed to get rid of her!!!

Can we see your cake? I love cake!!!

Hi Krissie! So, how did you let the coordinator go? What reason(s) did she give? Sorry if I''m nosy, and you don''t have to answer, but I''m curious.

LOL! It''s kind of a creation in our heads at the moment! But I can tell you that it will have 4 layers - a large round, then 2 hexagons, then a small round on top. The two round layers will have a lattice pattern with gold dots where the lines intersect, and the two hexagon layers will have gold fleur de lis with gold dots. The top will be a deep red flower and peacock feather combo of some sort! She''s going to surprise us with that one, but I know it will be gorgeous.

We really lucked out with the baker - she is an absolute doll, and while her cost is approx $400 more than the other, we were able to get the flowers under by the same amount so we aren''t really losing out. What we cut on the flowers was the 2 large urns we were going to have outside our reception venue, and floral arrangements on the dancefloor bistro tables. Nothing that I''ll miss, but gorgeous cake to look forward to!

As for the layers, I want carrot cake and our priest is backing me up on that one! So the second smallest and top layers will be carrot cake. The second largest will be a chocolate truffle cake (TO DIE FOR) and the largest will be an old fashioned butter cake - I just have to figure out what filling. Probably bavarian cream with bourbon, or caramel. Thoughts?

Oooh it sounds divine!!! I wish I was coming!!!

I can''t help with flavours as we don''t have anything near as much choice in the UK as you do over there... the chocolate sounds fab to me though!!!! I am sure that your guests will be thrilled with whatever you go with!!!

It was really weird - she didn''t have any excuse other than she had been away and then had other events prior to our visit. But when we countered that she had been MIA for much longer and stuff hadn''t been done, she didn''t even bother arguing.

I tried to be as gracious as possible and explained that it was the process that was disappointing and unreliable, and that I needed more communication and follow-through. I explained that perhaps she wasn''t used to having an assertive bride who wants updates once in a while, but that ignoring emails from me with no response whatsoever wasn''t working anymore. I said that I would have understood if she had said she couldn''t do something, or couldn''t do it for 2 weeks or whatever, but the silence was making me worried and I wasn''t enjoying the process.

Don''t worry about being nosy. I did feel a little bridezilla, but this was a business decision and I felt so much better afterward.

Krissie,

So glad your wedding plans are coming along so well!

Kentucky BBQ?! I live in Louisville! Do you as well?!

I would love to chat if so! What baker are you going with?

We are using The Sugarwoods out of La Grange and our experience was wonderful!

Let me know if you''re in Louisville!!
