local Brick & Mortar store just told me that BlueNile are known for drilling into diamonds to remove inclusions then filling holes with filler that eventually turns a different color... that seems very far fetched.. any truth to this? lol

Blue Nile are a well established company who sell GIA and AGS certified diamonds. They sell internationally and have thousands of happy customers.

This is just nonsense from a store who doesn't like the competition from online retailers!

So far as I know, Blue Nile has never sold clarity-enhanced diamonds of any sort.
Here's an informative page that discusses the 2 primary means of clarity enhancement: laser drilling & fracture/feather filling (the latter is what "clarity-enhanced" typically means).

Agreed.
A local store doesn't want to hear that a potential customer (you) has any knowledge of online resources. When I occasionally browse in local jewelry stores, I just bite my tongue, and enjoy the sparklies.

Do you have a relationship with this bricks and mortar store? If so, I would examine it. They do not sound completely above board themselves. In my experience, decent vendors don't badmouth other vendors so easily. In fact, the really great ones who grace Pricescope usually don't badmouth other reputable vendors even when they are dying to do so because they have legitimate disagreements with them!. I have rarely heard a well-known vendor say a bad word about another one.

HI:

Well, that would be grievous indeed if it were in fact true. Ask the B & M for proof.

The more likely scenario is one of sour grapes +/-hooey.

IMHO, BN doesn't need any "help"--but in the case of that B & M, not so.

cheers--Sharon

Your B&M store is feeding you a bunch of BS!

And there you have it. Dancing Fire does not call a spade "an instrument for earth removal".

What an odd thing for them to say. Where is the proof?

I actually keep hoping that BN will rent the retail space in my building as a showroom. Then they'd be right next door to Tiffany.

That's is code for "don't buy from BN, buy from me" (I want your money, I don't want them to get your money)

And this is why I really don't work with local B&M stores any more (the lies). Although, if you brought up BN, what were your expectations of the conversation?

I have heard the craziest things from B&M stores. I don't waste my time even considering some of their claims. blah blah blah...

This does sound like a load of "you know what" but I would also not be so quick to call out all B&M stores. I work with a local one and they are very honest and well respected.

Hey BlueStreak, I just re-read my post and it may have come off sounding a bit harsh. I'm just saying that many people have encountered nothing but bad B&M stores but I've been fortunate. I think in your case they gave you misinformation because they were trying to get your sale.
