Awkward question: would you ever aim to decrease finger size?

I'm reading all these ring upgrade threads, and it occurred to me that it might be cheaper to decrease one's finger size than to increase the diamond size !

I know that might not always be possible... but a friend of mine lost a bunch of weight and her finger size went from 5.5 to 3.5 and now every ring she tries on looks HUUUUGE!

So what do you think? If it were healthy and possible to change the finger size as opposed to the diamond size... would you shoot for that?

If I didn't have to put any money into reducing my finger size and could do it in a healthy way, why not?

I'm freakin cheap so any way to save $$ is my priority.

Of course I would!!! I am a Pricescoper after all!

I wouldn't think it would be that easy to change one's finger size, seems like it would be really bone size. My engagement ring finger size has stayed the same for the past 30 years.

Probably, knowing full well it's ridiculous.

I have big fingers and big hands. Not because I'm fat, but because its just the way things are. At the height of my competitive career, I was 10% bodyfat for nearly 4 years (I don't recommend this ladies!!)...which takes its toll, AND I still wore a size 7.5. Granted though, I weighed over the 160lb mark...lol Hell to be honest the show I retired after, I weighed in at 171lbs. What can I say, muscle is heavy.

These days because of a recurring issues my hands swell sometimes....a lot. So I have rings from 7.5 to a 9, though I mostly wear the 8-8.5 ones.

So of COURSE I'd love to be a part of the itty bitty digit committee, but that's not gonna happen ever.

We've had clients go down a half size- maybe even a full size after weight loss.
I'd think changing more than that due to weight loss would be remarkably rare.

You're probably right! Maybe a better way to reduce finger "size" would be to always hang out in the cold and wear thin bands!

I went up 2 full ring sizes when I gained weight. Hoping I can go back down that much!

Yes! My fingers aren't too large (6.5), but they are so chubby! I wish I didn't have fleshy fingers, but I'd settle for smaller chubby ones haha.

I'm not a petite person and my fingers would look pretty disproportionate if they weren't the size they are. Also, wouldn't it look pretty freaking weird to not decrease the size of ALL your fingers? Like if you had one super skinny ring finger and the rest were normal? So, if you decreased the size of ALL your fingers would it be any less expensive than an upgrade?

Can/would they do liposuction on a finger?

My finger size hasn't changed a bit in the last 25 years, even through pregnancies(+-30 pounds).
So my only bet would be plastic surgery and, as monarch said, ONE skinny finger would look pretty awkward.

But I seriously envy those size 3 fingers....

I've done it. I lost weight and went from an 8 to a 6.5. It was wonderful. Now I'm back to a 7.5. It was stressful to not eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. I just get elaborate setting to offset it.

One day I'll hop back on the "I should lose weight" train, but I'm too lazy and indulging in amazing food is my vice.

lol you'd have to lipo all the fingers or it would just be one super skinny ring finger and chubby others!

I think the takeaway from everyone's experiences with ring size vs weight loss is Kenny's fave line- it varies.

Some people's ring sizes change. Others don't. Do whatever makes you happy and healthy. ;)

I would have to have my knuckles shaved down to make a difference.

lmao.

My 1.5 ct Octavia is too large for my finger.
What should I do, gain 100 pounds or have the diamond polished down to a half carat?

:lol-2:

Even when I weighed less than 100lbs, I still had fat fingers :(

I'd target my waist, not my finger, lol!

You aren't alone Arkteia!! I will ask the doctor to reduce my waist. Maybe he will just throw in the finger reduction in for free.

I have a friend who has a significant amount of extra weight and her fingers are still a size 4 1/2- to 5. Its not fair, I tell you.

Went from 130lbs to 160lbs  and my ring size is still 5. Anyone want to swap my 30lbs for your size 7 finger? I also have small wrists I can use to negotiate!

I lost weight after pregnancy, went down two sizes in ring finger size. Sorry to say that it did not (!) affect my perception of the size of my solitaire. Still dss... So, I dont think this would help.

It's a heck of a lot easier to upgrade the diamond as opposed to trying to decrease finger size! At my thinnest when I got married (about 115 pounds) I had size 4.75 rings. Today with many pounds added, I wear a 5.5. So while I do need to lose weight, my finger size simply won't change enough to make a big difference visually.

Wow very impressive regarding and was curious if you mind sharing about your competitive career. Is this for fitness competitions like cross fit or more of body building? I see more and more ladies at the gym preparing and lifting weights. It's nice to not just see men pumping some iron.

I think I did damage to myself and it wasn't due to weight. My right knuckle increased. I think I might have had a small cut or some sort of inflammation one day. Kept wearing my RHR though and pushed it on through. Now I'm pretty certain that my knuckle rebelled and is slightly larger. I used to be able to wear a 3.75 right size but now it's a comfortable at 4.25. I know I know... I shouldn't be complaining in terms of finger size but perhaps I might rather have thicker digits but have the left and right to be the same size. Then I can wear the rings on both hands? Are ya'll finger sizes the same on the left and right?

If I had weight to lose, decreasing finger size would totally motivate me! Sadly, I just have huge hands, not very proportionate to my overall size at all (size 2 in clothes, size 6-6.5 in rings).

Weight change seems to show up in my fingers like right away...My fingers tend to be big anyway (6 3/4) and I'm not over weight. Its summer and I
really feel like I could use a 7 due to the heat and being up 3lbs (boo). I wish my fingers always stayed the same!
