btw, I should mention it''s a "study" of only 11 countries. Here are the rankings from best to worst..

1. Norway
2. Sweden
3. Great Britain
4. United States
5. Netherlands
6. Ireland
7. New Zealand
8. Japan
9. Germay
10. Austria
11. Australia

i''m married to an Aussie.......he is not a beer swilling guy nor does he like sports. of course, there are always those that do not meet the stereotype and i guess he''s one of those.

Well, FI is Australian and he does all the cleaning and cooking, doesn''t watch sport or drink beer (however is partial to vodka) and is crazy good looking!

I don''t put much confidence in studies like that

All I could think of when I saw the title of this thread was Keith Urban. Ok, maybe he''s been to rehab, but who cares? LOL

I read the article...my mom is half Norwegian and I hope she didn''t see it, otherwise she''ll leave my dad and move to Norway. Seriously.

My FI is australian!!! He''s not the stereotypical aussie guy. FI loves his games, anime, doesn''t watch much sports, and a very sensitive guy.

ha ha, yeah Fi was quite up in arms about this one on the news last night Tgal, lol!

like he mentioned, may have a bit more credibility if it weren''t a UK study..

I have to admit. my guy does do most of the difficult housework - like bathrooms, vaccumming, pots and pans etc.
He doesn''t fit the info from the study - except of course the beer and sports bit

* Disclaimer: This is my experience only. I''m sure both American and Australian men can be different to these experiences.

Having grown up in the States and moved to Australia at 21, I can definitely see the merits of this study. For the most part, Australian men are very uninterested in domestic/child-rearing duties in comparison to the majority of American men I know. I think it is because many men in Australia continue to live with their parents deep into their 20s, while American men move out and go to college at 18 -- and learn to take care of themselves. Australian men have moms taking care of them for many, many years and grow to expect that treatment.

That being said, my current Australian partner is quite good. He doesn''t do any cleaning on his own, but will happily help out if requested -- and he does ALL of the cooking/dishes. It''s our happy divide. I''m content keeping everything orderly and clean as long as he keeps me fed!

I am Australian, living in Australia, with an Australian SO and Australian friends and family.

SO does more of the housework, although I do most of the cooking.

He is also really looking forward to being a father and wants to play an active role in parenting.

My father does all of the cooking at home and a lot of the tidying. I just don''t see it in the men I know.

I actually just thought that the vast majority of men that I know are intelligent/educated, and the majority of their partners are educated with their own careers. Maybe that is the difference? These women have their own careers, as do the men, so the men are more likely to help out?

Interesting. My hubby loves sports and beer too.... But he does clean and do dishes..

(We are from the US)

Huh. I find that really interesting. Every Aussie man I''ve ever met has been SUPER hot! I went to and worked at a summer camp when I was a kid and in college and we always had a ton of Aussies and Kiwi''s on the staff. They were always lust-worthy. Perhaps that''s the problem? They''re all sex appeal and that doesn''t translate well in reality??

wooo! I married a German man - and he's the best husband!
although, after we talked about my husband's upgringing, I can see that this study is somewhat true. His father was not really involved with my husband's youth. My husband is an incredible musician - a film composer with an amazing talent, and even to this day, his dad still doesn't acknowledge his gift. He keeps telling him that "it's not a real job"... It's all about money with him. Thank God, my husband has a kind heart and now living in the USA with me, he's away from the negativity and live his dream... Oh and my husband is insanely good looking. Lucky me ;)

His father - never does dishes, i don't think he changed a diaper in his life nor has done much with his children either... But he was sure good at making them!

Interesting! I''m an Aussie married to an Aussie, and even so, I''m planning on keeping him

I have heard this from a few of my Aussie friends. That Australian men are very masculine and footy, cricket and beer come first! I lived in the UK for years and had a lot of Aussie friends (the Aussies, Americans and Irish banded together for some reason..I think it had to do with a preference for beer vs. wine) and to be honest I liked Austrailian men and they def were the most attractive and v. quick witted(how shallow of me but I was young back then!).

In your case, I''m guessing TGUY is Americanized since he lives here rather than being in Aus and surrounded by his buddies who maybe would bring out the more stereotypical behavior? Interesting article though! I saw an item on Sweden and how the culture is very liberal (Socialized) and working towards complete gender equalization in terms of working/parenting roles. This has created a society where women are more like men (very independent, no pressure to marry) and men are less likely to fall into typical male roles. Great b/c it''s as equal a society as is possible, BUT bad b/c alot of chivalrous behaviour has disappeared (opening doors, etc).

How does everyone think American men truly fall in the spectrum? #4 is pretty high up there! Also surprised that GBritain was #3, b/c I didn''t see it so much and it wasn''t uncommon for the men to go to the pub while women stayed home and cooked/watched kids. Here in the US, I have many freinds who now make more than their hubbies and also are SAHD''s. It''s all pretty interesting..
