Wedding Aussies - dress shopping? Melissa Sweet, Claire Pettibone?

Hi Ladies,

Does anyone know of some great designer bridal boutiques (preferably Sydney)??

I love Melissa Sweet & Claire Pettibone - I''d love to try some styles on.... but I have a feeling you can''t get them in Australia.

Has anyone ordered their dress from the U.S?

Any suggestions for where I should start shopping?

I was actually just on the phone with Joy at Melissa Sweet''s NY office, and I asked about stores in Sydney for you. She said they haven''t opened any stores there yet, so you would have to buy through US retailer. She said that you can email her at [email protected]

She''s so helpful. So awesome. I totally wanted to hug her over the phone.

Claire I did a google search on bridal salons around Sydney and pulled nothing

Luckily Sydney has some AMAZING shopping places, I am sure you will find something magnificent

deelight: thanks for the research!! I also googled with no luck... though I''m sure there will be plenty here to choose from. I think Monique Lhuillier is stocked in a boutique here somewhere so that will be fun (and potentially expensive!)

Claire I was talking to a friend today about her BM dresses she showed me them and they were beautiful she ordered hers from the US as did another friend. I know this is not wedding dresses but they both did it as it was MUCH MUCH cheaper this way for the same product.

What they did was to go to the bridal salon try on the design find out their sizes and then look it up and order from the US. Apparently most of the wedding designs are from the US anyway so you essentially are cutting out the middle man .

Thanks for that info, deelight! That sure is good to know! I will definitely try that avenue for both my dress and my bm''s.... Australia is getting so bloody expensive! Is it just me?

Nope it is not just you, things here are priced insanely for instance we have the highest food prices in the world

not to mention other things.

My friend was saying the dresses she looked at were $400 here PLUS an extra $150 for added length

whereas ordering from the US the final total including P&H, length etc came out to $250 each and it was only $30 for extra length.

HUGE DIFFERENCE, definitely something worth looking at multiple bridesmaids that total adds up, I would assume the savings on wedding dresses would be substantial as well.
