of course she refuses to drive that tank.

depends on what they supply and what the agreements are. As I understand it - most cases it is just basic transportation... and not the same vehicle you have in service... which could mean, you drop off your Infinity and you get a neon.

so much room for jokes but so inappropriate for PS.

I'm not sure about exact cars, however, I would be mad if a dealership loaned me a Hummer, not only for gas-guzzling reasons, but also because I doubt I could drive the thing. Either I'd crash into a car or run over a pedestrian!

They probably have a lot of Hummers hanging around because noone is buying those ugly monstrosities anymore (not that I ever understood why they did...)

lol... for some reason, I''m just picturing this little itty bitty woman coming out of a whopping Hummer...

anyhow, I would think they would give you something that''s similar in spec...ie, you turned in a sedan, I would expect a sedan.

I don''t think they are "obligated" to do anything - but I''m with you and your wife, I''d be really ticked if they gave me a hummer - I''d probably demand a rental instead, as I can''t imagine trying to drive something that size

Honestly, I''d be happy to be provided with a mode of transportation. Wouldn''t occur to be to be annoyed by the type of car they offered.

Yikes! A Hummer?!? I know that at the BMW dealership, they often run out of their rentals and will lend you an actual rental car from Hertz or something. I''ve gotten an Avalon and Cobalt before. Geesh! You should have refused!

Last time I took the Jaguar in for service the dealer lent me a Range Rover. The weather was cold and crappy so I didn''t complain!

Wow,

I could see this happening at a lower end dealership, but I am surprised to hear about it at Lexus-- they are known for their amazing service- better than BMW, Mercedes or whatever. And I think because of their service, some crazy percentage of first-time Lexus buyers stick with Lexus for the rest of their life.

I actaully didn''t realize that BMW or Jaguar or Lexus or any other luxury dealership would give you Hertz or another, lower end loaner.

I don''t think my dealership does what you are talking about-- in fact, they bring in loaners from a dealership 50 miles away if they run out. In my experience, the dealership actually takes the opportunity to give you a much nicer car in order to plant an upselling seed in your mind!

Which is good for me because that means I only get m5''s and m6''s

i took in a little Lexus IS 350 and got a Hummer

guess they ran out of small loaner cars. maybe the Hummers are normally loaned out to their customers with SUVs.

The few times my Vette has been in for service, I usually got some kind of compact. As long as it was free, I didn''t complain.

This is slightly OT, but when my SIL''s Jag needs service, the dealership sends mechanics to the house. Can you believe that???

That is nice, sort of. . .kind of creepy too. I''m not sure I''d feel comfortable with mechanics roaming around my garage.

Me too! Not every dealership is helpful with getting you another car to drive while yours is being serviced.

Personally, I would love having the Hummer for a day or two! I am so short, it would be comical.
