Here's a possible solution. One of our friends gave us these nifty electric candles for a wedding present. A friend of hers did the design. They come in elegant adult styles too, but she (rightly) guessed that we'd get a kick out of this snail version. Basically, they sit in a little tray that charges them, and when you lift them out, they light up (there's also a button to keep them lighted) with a gentle glow. Perfect for zapping monsters under the bed or (as the package says) for "brave night trips to the bathroom". Even for grown ups, we're finding all kinds of uses for them. Mood lighting for taking a bath... or when one of us goes to bed first, so the other can find pj's without turning the lights on. In fact, other than our pots, these are getting the most use of any of our presents! A seriously great product.
