Are your dogs/cats allowed on your bed?

We have two girl kitties who are very clean but we still do not allow them to sleep in bed with us (we shut the bedroom door at night). In the morning when we open the door, I'll allow them to hop up on the bed for a quick good morning greeting but that's it.

Yep! I have 3 kitties and they're all allowed anywhere but the dining room table, kitchen table and kitchen counters. If I had a dog I wouldn't let it in the bed, though-they're too big and stinky!

My biggest kitty Charles sleeps in the bed between me and my husband like a person. Just this morning I woke up and his head was on my pillow and his paw was stretch out and resting on my husband's pillow. It is SO CUTE to me!

My littlest girl kitty (in my avatar) sleeps at the foot of the bed occasionally. She'll come snuggle with me right when I need to get out of bed to get ready for work, and I'm powerless to resist. She lays next to me with her upper body on me or she'll curl up right on me and stretch her head back so it's right by my face. KILLS ME.

My middle kitty isn't much of a bed sleeper but she usually snuggles with me at night for a while right when I get into bed. Every now and then she'll sleep with me all night but it's rare. My big boy kitty gets a little territorial about the bed sometimes and every now and then when she gets up on it he'll huff away and leave or chase her away.

Well, my terminally ill {and STILL hanging on :)} cat can't even be bothered to climb the stairs to see me. My husband and I do not share a room, his snoring is beyond bearable and we have to sleep in separate areas of the house. However, OscartheCat goes anywhere and everywhere my husband goes and sleeps with him at nite.

I guess I am lucky that my dog doesn't shed

All of our furbabies sleep in the bed with us, every single night. The pup (45 lbs) sleeps right between the two of us humans, one kitty sleeps up between our heads, and the other two snuggle in between my feet.

During the winter the cats all glom on to the dog so they all sleep on top of some part of her. She keeps them extra warm.

ETA: I like the way our pup smells, too! I call her Frito Bai because she smells like Frito chips. She doesn't have any gastrointestinal issues either because she eats a raw diet.

I started with a cat--and tried very hard to keep her off the bed. Tried to close the bedroom door--she scratched at the door. Tried to get her a nice bed--she preferred mine. Tried to to squirt her with a water when she got on the bed--she didn't care. Now she sleeps at the end of the bed on top of a small blanket.

Yup. Both of my cats are allowed on the bed, though only one currently sleeps there. I love having them on the bed with me. It's very comforting.

No cats or dogs in the bedroom, no dogs on the furniture. If there was some way to ban cats from the couch I would, but so far no luck - so I just deal with the cat hair :knockout:

I spoon my little guy every night other than the nights he cuddles with my FI's belly. He is clean enough and heck there are nights I go to bed and am not the cleanest so why should I hold it against him. When we move into our house and get our fancy bedding we will be a little better about wiping his paws every time he walks in. We are starting to train him to do that on his own.

Yeap. I fall asleep and wake up spooning this love bug every night and morning.

Yes, our dogs are allowed on our bed, but they don't sleep with us because we get too hot.

*SIGH*

I am pretty opposed to pets in the bed, but FI really, really loves it. I made the concession for him, and it really does make him happy. We were long distance when I got my dog, and she slept in a crate at my house. When she was about 2, we let her sleep on the bed with us, ONLY at his house, and ONLY when she was invited. If we are home, she doesn't get on the bed without permission, or unless we're together (she gets very jealous, it's hilarious). She now sleeps on the floor at night unless FI BEGS me to let her up. I get hot and hate to fight with a dog and a person for covers or to get comfortable. And she can only sleep on top of the comforter and must have weekly baths, or more often if she's playing hard. She does get on the bed when we go to work. Obviously she thinks that we are too dumb to see the signs. We let her up on the weekends when we are relaxing in the house (reading, computing, napping), and I will admit that it is nice if you are not OCD about cleanliness. Also, she's far less likely to be mischevious if she's allowed on the bed. I sometimes feel like a sucker for giving in, but really, I enjoy her so much, on the bed or off! ::)

my monsters are allowed on the bed when my hubby feels like it...poor confused creatures. They are spoiled. We have about 4 doggy beds around the house, and they will roll in the covers that hang off the bottom of the bed until they pull them down enough to make a blanket bed. They refuse to sleep on regular floor. And by refuse, I mean they will stand next to you and cry until you help them find a place to sleep.

They know when dad leaves in the morning that's their cue to jump on bed. They hear the beep of the house alarm go on and both climb up to cuddle with me. They will hear DH walk back in sometimes and jump off. Its cute.

He cheats tho and calls both of them on the bed quite regularly...then gives them the boot.

If we let our dogs sleep in the bed, there would be no room for us :(

I think you started the thread with a negative supposition Kenny, and you are therefore more likely to hear from those who feel the same.

I agree...

Lots of people are joining in to say their furbabies are welcome in their bed.

Stating your opinion doesn't mean others have to share it.
Where does this assumption come from? Gee.

If the OP stated her dog/cat shared their bed I'd be equally likely to state that mine don't.
I don't need people to agree with me.
Agreement means nothing.
Everyone's opinion is equally valid.

Oh sheesh I'm sorry Kenny. Didn't mean to derail your post at all. I was just wondering if my own supposition would play out.

The rabbits are not allowed in the bed. Though they haven't figured out how to go upstairs, so that's a moot point. I know that Hannah would get her butt up on that bed in a second if she knew where it was and there would be no keeping her off. For now, they content themselves with the couches.

When we do get dogs, they'll be allowed on the bed occasionally, if we're in the room, but they won't be allowed to sleep with us at night. First, our queen bed is just too small. We've dog sat for a 15lb snuggly dog and even she was too big to fit in there with us, and we plan to get at least a 30lb dog. Second, I've always had allergy issues and even though I have never had symptoms with dogs, I do test as being allergic to them, so it's best if they just stay out of the bed.

No problem, Lyra.
I don't think it's a derail at all, just another path to an interesting discussion. :wink2:
:wavey:

Britta and Bella do, tho Bella's shift starts when JD gets up as she likes the bed to herself. It's like the Coyote/Dog cartoons where the dog is guarding the sheep and they "Hi Ralph" "Hi Sam" at the time clock. She waits by the door until he gets up and then in she goes. Britta lays with me or London. Chicken can not b/c she still has pee issues we can't fix.

I dog sat for 7 dogs a few months ago. 4 dobermans, 3 chihuahuas. They all slept in the bed with me.

Oh, but of course! DH on left, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel [20 lbs] next to DH, me and new Maine Coon Cat kitty [less than 4 lbs] is on my head or near my face. Home wouldn't be the same without the family sleeping together. Did you know that the size of a dog increases during the course of the night? It's an odd phenomena

We allow them up for a snuggle, but once the lights go out, they have to leave the bed. The only time they get to stay (and only Boomer, my Bernese mix, does--Edgar gets too hot) is when one of us is out of town and sleeping alone. We keep a sheet on the bed to protect the bedding, its easy to take off when we have company.

Yes.
As if I wasn't already allotted a small portion of the bed (my BF is a big guy and we have a queen size mattress)...the doggie sleeps UNDER the covers IN BETWEEN us at the foot of the bed EVERY night.
I don't really mind, I think it's cute. She's pretty clean.

My two yorkies sleep in bed with us and they know they rule the roost. They choose where they want to sleep and we have to accommodate them. It's not very fun to have little rat dogs crawling all over your head, but they are too freakin cute and lovable.

Not over night, but yes 3 of the 4 are allowed. The other one has a tummy issue... she will jump up on the bed and sit on FI's chest for a bit but I hate it. uggggg. I tolerate her, but her and I don't get along.. :? The other 3 have even barfed on our bed. hehehe I think they are saying "time for new sheets!"

oh HELL no. hell no. oh hell NO! I used to let my cats sleep on the bed but I have to draw the line there with my allergies. And dogs? Never. Never ever would I sleep with a dog in or on my bed. I think it's disgusting. I don't care how clean the dog is, no way, no how yuck yuck yuck blech. Besides, she's a labradork lol Way too big. But at any size the answer is hell no.

Ours are not.

Yuck!

They get only one monthly bath . . . they walk outside everywhere so . . . well . . . yuck!

We used to bathe them more often but the vet said once a month is best and bathing more often removes too much of their natural oils.

We DO allow our two dogs onto a certain couch that always has a machine-washable heavy duty cover on it.
Snuggling and cuddling with the little monsters is wonderful.
haha - I didn't read any posts before I posted - not even yours lol I think I probably offended more people than you ((kenny)) no love for you today 'cept from me haha

I have a Rottweiler and we don't allow her on the bed to make sure she understands her position in the house. She was born an alpha female and she likes to think that she still is one. Because she' so dominant, we have to have these rules in the house. I love her to bits though and she has her own memory foam beds throughout the house.

Now my kitty cat is my love bug and must sleep with me. One night I woke up because we were sleeping so close, his whisker ended up in my nose. He doesn't mind too much movement and when I roll over, he rolls over with me.
