Are you crafty? What do you do?

I have an obsession with paper, I won''t even lie. I absolutely LOVE the paper aisles at places like Michael''s and Hobby Lobby, and have probably spent a small fortune there (unfortunately, often wasted, as I tend to be too distracted to actually DO anything with them).

If I could have anything in a new house, I would have a separate room for my paper, stamps, cutters, and glue, and it would look like this, but BIGGER:

Not me but my SO is into beading.
He makes earrings/bracelets for the gals at work and they all love him.
He has ZILLIONS of beads, every kind imaginable.

I would never classify myself as crafty, but DH called me out on being so the other night as I sat in bed punching out paper airplanes to line a lampshade with.

I''m such a novice though, I totally steal ideas from other people and it usually takes two or three tries at something before I can get it right. I also suppose I do it as a means to an end than for the enjoyment of it. For me, if I can make something for less $ then I will do my best. Sometimes it works and other times I give up and go out and buy the thing I''m trying to make so I lose money.

Me, too! I always see something and think, "I could do that." And I can...after a bunch of tries, haha. I wish I were creative enough to come up with something on my own!

Kenny, I looooove beads! Do you have any pictures of the stuff he does?

I guess I think of myself as *crafty* but I usually need a partner in crime or I''ll start something, hit a snag, then have a half finished project until DH eventually convinces me to throw it out.

MP, how''d the onesie project come out? Did you make it past the Micah sample?

Haha, you saw my one lame attempt, right? Well I need an embroidery hoop and have been too poor to go get one, so it''s on the backburner until I do. I also need to find onesies with thicker material I think...the Gerber ones are simply too thin and the threads show too much.

Actually, come to think of it, no.
Shame on me.

I'll have to take some in the future.
All his work is gone, given away.

I''m very crafty! I''m not truly happy unless I''m creating something with my hands. Doesn''t matter what!

And I would LOVE to have one of those rooms you posted. I''d probably never leave. It would be like my craft cave.

I''d love to see! What do you do?
And seriously, I could sleep in one of those rooms. Soooo happy.

Beautiful collage MP, I love Paper, paints, glitter, fabrics you name it. Having a separate room keeps things under control, just love it!

I''ve been into several things over the years and my current obsession is knitting. I''ve got a cabinet in my office full of yarns, pattern books, needles, etc. I''m slowly but surely edging out tile and laminate samples I keep for work to make more room for my knitting!

I don''t craft much now, but I used to try different things. I also love paper, just for the sake of having it--weird. My daughter is working on being a pro artist and she could really use a room like in those pics! She has every kind of art supply there is and buys more every week.

I wish I was crafty, but I''m not at all. I''m an elementary teacher, and I always envy the projects my co-workers do with their students. I''m not good at coming up with projects on my own -- I always have to look things up to get ideas.

I love the idea of finding a crafty type of hobby to do in my spare time but I don''t have the patience. I''ll be watching this thread though, hoping to get ideas!

Oooh I love your set up there MonkiePie, it looks like such fun to play with.

I don''t do much paper craftiness, but I do bead, make beaded & wire necklaces, string pearls, sew, make mineral makeup (guess that falls into craftiness sorta

) and oil paint.

One of my favorite crafty things I made was several headband/tiaras. I took these really wide headbands, and layered two fabrics over them (a neat iridescent fabric and a black lace over that), then sewed a bunch of 2x A/B swarovski crystal beads onto it, and then attached some antique jewelry pieces. I had this really cool broken a/b necklace from the ''50s that made a perfect tiara bit. Larger earrings looked nice on them too.

I love paper too, and I would die to have MonkeyPie''s dream room, lol! I''ve been a room parent in each of my kids'' classes for 7 years now, so I''m always trying to come up with fun crafts that aren''t too expensive, and paper is always great. Here''s a pinwheel we did for our 4th grade picnic party, and it really spins!

MP--I love your collage of dream craft rooms! That''s great.

DH and I each have a spare bedroom to ourselves in the house. He turned his into an office, and I turned mine into a guest bedroom/craft room. I am constantly making things, I love crafting!

My recent projects have included:
- Sock monkeys (I posted them somewhere here on PS)
- Postcard collages (I posted that here, too!)
- I''m currently making a collage of 1" pin-back buttons. I have a button machine, so I made over 1,200 buttons over the last year and now I''m arranging them on a 24" x 48" canvas. It''s looking pretty cool so far! (I just bought some picture frames to do this with my niece and nephew, too. They went gaga over the collage I''ve started, but I''m too picky about button placement to allow them to help me make that one, so they''re going to make their own mini versions, instead.)
- We have a huge canvas hanging up in our dining room that my niece and nephew created using craypas. It''s actually pretty cool!
- I still make friendship bracelets. I like to make really thick ones and give them away as book marks.
- Beaded jewelry
- I just bought wire today to make a wire sculpture for one corner of our living room.
- My mom and I are going to make some hypertufa planters and benches next weekend. Never done this before, very excited.
- I draw and paint. I use pen, pencil, and craypas for drawing. Guache for painting.
- I made a pretty awesome shadow box for a friend''s daughter''s bat mitzvah. A bunch of her friends'' parents called me to see if I''d make them for their kids, but I wasn''t interested. It''s only fun the first time!
- I like paper crafts like quilling and origami. I saw this very cool wall sculpture in my new school that basically looks like a gigantic quilled wall sculpture. I''ve spent the last two weeks trying to figure out how to do something like that in my house. It''s pretty awesome.
- I sew every now and then. My BA is in English and costume design, so I still get the odd urge to make an article of clothing. When I was really little my mom wouldn''t let me sew with a needle, so I used to cut up her fabric scraps and make shoes by SAFETY PINNING the pieces together. Then I''d walk around with these pinned up shoes on my feet. It must have been pretty hilarious.
- My parents and I made a machine that actually CREATES rubber stamps. It''s pretty cool. My dad made one of those spinny machines that you put t-shirts into and then drizzle the paint over for one of my childhood birthdays, too. I think it''s in my blood to dabble in all this stuff.

All that being said, I am NOT a scrapbooker. Scrapbooks are too busy looking for me, and I don''t have the patience to put them together.

Here are some pictures of a mock-up of the button collage. This is when I only had about 400 buttons, I think, so it looks really different now. I''m arranging them by color of the rainbow, and from dark to light to dark all the way through. Don''t ask me what I''m going to do with it once it''s finished, though!

I must admire all the crafty folk!

I think I'm too analytical to enjoy the crafting when I do attempt it, if that makes sense.. Rulers and angles and worrying that the shading under the apple is a hair skewed compared to under the strawberry, or that the cloth pattern edges don't precisely line up - it's so stressful!

You sound like my sister! We used to make fun of her because she likes to scrapbook, but all of our pages have to be symmetrical, and she would spend hours making sure that the edges of the cutouts lined up exactly right. It was pretty funny to watch, but she still enjoyed doing it.

Hah!
Spot on, that.

Haven, that pin canvas is awesome! I love stuff like that. I wouldn''t have the patience to make it go by color though lol.

Ever since I got up and around after having the baby, I have been DYING to make something. I just feel this need to create something, but I have no idea what to do. And my camera battery on my D300 is rogue, so I haven''t even been able to take pictures. It''s killing me!

Great Pinwheel & Mock-up button collage

I like to scrapbook and bead. The last time I did any of it was..let''s see, Trapper turned 3 in March, and the last thing I did was a small scrapbook for my mom for Mother''s day of London''s Sears pictures while I was pg w/Trapper, and I finished it right after he was born. So..yeah..I''m on the 3+ year craft plan I guess? I worked hard on it and was SO proud of it. I''m a "plain" scrapper I guess. I don''t use a lot of fancy stuff on my pages, first b/c the stuff is expensive and I like to make it last, and 2nd b/c I like things simpler.

And I get a little obsessive w/things being "just so"-I can''t do angled pictures, no matter how hard I try. Haha when I gave it to mom, I went through it w/her and pointed out everything-"See how this shirt has stripes and then I made stripes with paper here?" "Now, see the dragonflys and flowers behind her in this picture? See how I added these little dragonflys and flowers to the paper?"

We made a big memory board for London''s room a few years ago, and then one for my BFF when she had her daughter, and will be doing another one for Trapper whenever we get around to redoing his room to a more big boy room. And, I''ll qualify that by saying, I pick the stuff out and decide what I want, and then JD makes it.

When the basement gets fixed up, I''ll be able to have a nice area for myself to finally work on scrapping again.

I''d love to learn how to knit/crochet.

I consider myself pretty crafty. I haven''t done much in recent years.

Things I do/did:
1. Polymer clay figurines - I did our wedding cake topper. I was supposed to make a figure of DH golfing; I got all the materials, but never started. Now he hasn''t golfed for a couple years since we had M. The last thing I make was an ornament for a friend.
2. Scrapbooking - I still haven''t finish our wedding album. I have a total of 4 pages.
3. Floral arranging - For little while, I was freelancing for wedding.

Next project:
Felt hair clips for Meena.

I came back to this thread to post my first quilling piece! I recently found a picture of a quilled piece by Yulia Brodskaya and fell in love. So, I went out and bought some quilling paper and a little needle tool, and decided to make my mom something for her birthday, which is tomorrow.

It could probably use a lot of work, but it's my first attempt so be nice. It's the Hebrew word "Shalom" with a Jewish star around it. I'm going to give it to her tomorrow, I can't wait!

I can't figure out how to attach photos in this version of PS. :blackeye:
It allows me to upload the photo, but then it won't attach it to my post.

I don't think I am, but I feel like I should be. I WOULD consider myself artistic (I have a BFA) and have the ability to be crafty but it is just not something I ever really got into. Guess I am lazy ;)) I promised my friend paintings for her nursery, but I keep putting off starting a project. Maybe this will inspire me to order the canvas.

Celle, I love that pinwheel. Super cute.

Haven, love your button project. Very creative and visually pleasing.

Not in the least. I often wish I was...I like the end product when I see other people make things, but I just don't have that creative gene or the skill. I've had lots of friends who do things like scrapbook and other crafts, and I'm amazed. I've tried to join in when they do them (they even talked me into making my own thank you cards for my bridal shower and then my own programs...the shower thank-yous looked like a kindergartener made them, and the wedding programs were WAY more stress than enjoyment). I have one friend who makes cards and sells them on etsy and IS a kindergarten teacher...I remember trying to help her cut out things one day to prepare for a lesson while we caught up, and she had to ask me to stop because mine were too sloppy.
