on the avg how many times per day? 100? 200? or more?..

Less than one a day. I dislike texting.

My phone makes phone calls, period. No interest at all in texting -- I even hate IMs. Call me up or send an email.

I loathe it.

Zero, I am text free. LOL!!

I'm not addicted. I would rather talk but DH hates talking on the phone. He's so annoying to the point where I will call him, he won't pick up, but will immediately text me "Wassup?" It makes me wanna throw a book at him. A heavy heavy encyclopedia.

I send between 0 to 20 per day. Keep in mind, my husband cannot talk on the phone at work so we have to communicate via text during the day. There are some people that are into texting and others who prefer to call, so it depends upon who I am making plans with re: which method I use. ETA - I accomodate what others prefer to do for communication. I find that works best. Some still like emails so I will email them from my phone. Some only like to talk using FB. It actually is kind of complicated trying to keep track of each person's preference.

I would say I send between 0-10 texts per day. Sometimes more when I get caught up in a complete text conversation. My mom LOVES to text and will call my DH to see if I'm *ok* if I don't respond. :angryfire:

i guess the 50 and over crowd don't text...

Gypsy i know you are under 50.. ;))

I have cut down on texting ever since I switched from my BB to a touch screen phone. I love the old physical keyboard, but with the touchscreen I make a lot more mistakes, and the google voice app is not particularly accurate. Unfortunately I have a few friends who like having a "conversation" by text i.e endless stream of text messages, and this drives me crazy. Just call me already!

I have to add though, ever since my Dad discovered the iPhone and texting, we have gotten a lot closer: he sends me text messages and occasional videos and photos he takes on top of our usual phone calls.

Zero.

I've never texted.

Addicted might be an understatement. I DESPISE being on the phone for calls, I prefer to text. It's more convenient, it's written, and you can take a screenshot for posterity. I prefer it to calls.

Definitely not. I hate it. I'm glad I have an iphone now so I can Siri to text for me.

Not addicted, but I definitely make use of the convenience. I'd rather read a text then listen to a freaking voicemail I HATE VOICEMAILS--don't even have a voicemailbox set up anymore.

About one a week?

I detest cellphones, period :knockout:

Hahahah well I'm clearly the odd woman out!! I'd say 100 a day isn't a stretch at all.

this.

I'm with ya, sonnyjane! I text a fair amount, but that's because I can not make personal calls at work, my team mates are often out in the community, my kids only reply to text messages and my DH is often away from his desk, so if I want/need to get ahold of anyone, I have to 'get with the program' and text them. I probably do maybe 20-40/ day... maybe...??

My DD has had a few months on her phone bill where she's texted upwards of 16,000/month!!! IN*******SANE!!! its over 500 a day! I think in their age group, that's the norm. In my age group, 50+, not necessarily so. Thank heaven's she has unlimited texts on her plan!

I agree with DF that it is probably a generational thing. I'm almost 30 and I can do 1-50 depending on the day. I prefer contact via email or text over phone. I really don;t like to chat over the phone on a regular basis.

I hate voicemails too. I think I might have a clinical phobia. I rarely ever listen to them.

My husband is out of town a lot, so free texting makes a lot of sense. Even so, between him and my 2 kids, I probably do about 5 texts a day unless there is some issue happening at home. I never give out my cell number so I only get texts from those 3 people and I like it that way. My inlaws have my number but they've never used it. I don't have an iphone and never will. For some reason when I use touchscreens they rarely work for me--at all. My DH says I'm not electrically charged enough. I don't know.

Me too!!! I swear to you I really don't listen to them. I listen to the "Hey E, it's...." and I delete. It could contain the most important information ever but I can't listen to voicemails. I just call them back to hear what they had to say.

Not addicted. Maybe 0-3 text per day, but I go days or even a week or more without texting. Not my favorite mode of communicating, but it's very convenient for some circumstances.

I can't believe so many people here don't like texting. I'm not addicted but I definitely prefer texting and emailing to talking on the phone. I probably average a few texts a day but some days I don't text at all. The only people I ever chat on the phone with are my mom and my 2 closest friends. I hate voicemails too!

I hate the phone. Hate it. Please, text or email me all day long...but don't call me.

I don't know how many texts I send a day...20? That sounds about right.

Addiction has to have obsession and compulsion, so no, I am not addicted. However, I find texts very easy and a quick way to communicate. I text daily.

Me 3. Absolutely hate voicemail. It's usually just people saying they called and to call them back - I already know that when I see that you called!

for me, I text around 5 times a day average. I'm not a huge phone person at all.

Maybe 5-10 a year. They are handy in bad weather, etc. when the towers are down.
If you don't want to call me, you can email me. Why should I pay more on my phone bill to make someone else's life easier?

I love texts. Perfect for chatting with mom friends because you don't have to worry about calling during nap. And you can send a quick question without needing a longer conversation. I probably send about 20 a day.

But my mom sends way more! She must be the oddball of her generation!

I'm with those who dislike mobile phones (didn't get one til 2003/4) and never even texted. I blocked it on my phone.

Everyone around me texts all the time and I hope to never be sucked into that vacuum. I agree that mobile phones have their place and are super important under certain circumstances. But, it has gotten out of hand IMO. People don't communicate personally anymore.

There is less human connection and too much virtual connection which is a poor substitute. I see it in the young adults today. They are often awkward face to face. They have trouble making eye contact (ofc some of that lack eye contact is due to their face being shoved into their phones lol) and just don't interact the same way. I don't know, maybe I am crazy but I really think it all has gotten a bit out of control.
