do you bid on a lot of unnecessary items? do you get really excited when you win an item?

I''m scared of ebay! My Grandma sends me way too many forwards about ebay scams (and dark parking lots, identify theft, Nigerian princes... you get the picture). But I recently overcame my fear and bought two dresses that I was coveting for about 1/3 of their retail price. It was a hugely successful purchase and I''ll probably be tempted to make a few more in the future

Dancing Fire, that''s so 2004. I used to get excited like that a while back but have since integrated other places to shop like Amazon and Etsy for some immediate gratification. It doesn''t seem like there''s as many bargains and inventory like there used to be. Sure, there is still some satisfaction on winning an auction, but for every one you win, there will be an item you lose.

I''ve never been to ebay, so no, I''m not addicted.

I have been buying on eBay since 1996 and have never had a bad experience.
I have bought mostly vintage and antique dolls and some clothing and jewelry.
It''s best I think to stick to things I know well and have researched and collected for many years.
There are categories like electronics where I would never stray.

I DO get excited when I find something I have been looking for or get a real
bargain. A few days ago I got an item no one else recognized. It is
selling on international sites for 550 euros. I paid $9.99.But I don''t bid
just to be bidding. This is a gift for a friend.

Some years I have bought a lot and others nothing at all.
I have averaged about 25 transactions a year.
I think I spend a lot more time on Pricescope than I do on eBay.

I do the vast majority of my shopping on line. EBay is just one venue.

I surf ebay ALOT, I dont bid on alot but so far I have only got burned once...as a matter of fact I got my eye on a really sweet little gold etoile style band on there now.....

I''m a little addicted. But I mostly stick to vendors I know, for example, Dan Stair cuts colored stones and many PSers have bought from his site but he''ll occasionally put gems on ebay in 99cent auctions, and it''s kind of exciting to win those because you can get a nice price on a really excellent stone. Same goes for some other color stone vendors that need to clear out some merchandise now and then.

On occasion I''ve gambled on good deals, and so far they''ve panned out. I recently just bought my first old cut diamond, waiting for it to arrive, we''ll see if this one pans out too because the price was just a steal.

I''m not really addicted, but I have bought a large range of items. Everything from beads for $1 to a $900 gazebo for my yard. I haven''t been burned, just a few icky transations that I at least got refunds for. I had more problems as a seller than as a buyer, non-paying bidders suck!

been a member since 02 but haven''t bought anything in the past 6 yrs until last week.

I lurk on ebay but rarely buy anything, maybe 4 items? My husband though, every week we are getting bicycle parts or jerseys in the mail. Sometimes more than once a week, and it never seems to end...

I buy from ebay but its mostly inexpensive things. I hardly ever bid, I prefer buy it now auctions. The majority of my purchases are decorative things for my home.

Nope.
I don't think I'm addicted to anything except dark chocolate!

I love ebay and go in spurts how much I buy, like Miss Mina I only buy stuff I know, I don''t think to buy things I would not normally buy and unnecessary items? Well I guess that is in the eye of the beholder, I felt that the charm bracelet I just got (a huge bargain! and something I was already looking for) was something I just could not pass up, my husband would beg to differ.

No. The fun is to find new, good deals from new, honest vendors who are yet inexpensive, but I tend to follow in the footsteps of others and usually start buying when prices go up.

Whenever I see cheap things, I get paranoid, "why so cheap?", and expensive things are a huge risk on ebay.

Definitely, not an ebayer. But what could one expect from a woman who had been to LV several times and never gambled?

I am not addicted to Ebay - but I am to ETSY.COM!!!!
It''s bad for my wallet!

Bunny007: I''m with you; scared of ebay.

I would love for an e-bay veteran to sit with me and hold my hand. As is, I refuse to buy anything from the auction sites.

What do you look at on Etsy? I find the site difficult - where should I look for extra special stuff? I would love a tip.

No, and no. There is far more junk on ebay now than there was, say, in 2003 through 2008. I got a few nice diamond rings and several really nice semi mounts on ebay. Now, the prices are twice what they were back then, and there is too much Chinese import junk on there. Also far too much junk in the sporting goods, motor vehicles, and other categories that I used to comb every day. Shipping costs have increased enormously, too.

Gosh Gem!! I know! I am on there and see my wallet shrinking!!!! :)

Steal, I mainly look at home made purses. Leather ones especially... In the search box you can put a general category like "purse" and then on the left side will show sub-categories and can navigate that way faster :)

Hey Steal - it really depends, what are you into / after?
I look at everything from cheaper, every day jewellery, to custom artists such as Julia Taylor, to handmade clothes or vintage accessories..
It really is endless possibilities, and not scary at all like ebay.

Have you checked out the \"fun things on etsy\" thread in Jewelery forum?
Tons of links to cute items and interesting shops on there..

Have you created a profile/account for yourself?
If so, here''s a neat tip - start searching and looking around for things you like, then add them to your favourite items and favourite sellers list (when you''re reading the listing for an item, the favourites function box is just to the right of the photos).
Once you have added a few things, etsy will generate a "suggested shops" list for you to check out, based on the types of items you like.

There are some 200 shops in my suggested list, and I can confidently say I liked the items in at least half of them when I went through them all
1.gif

To reach your suggested shops list, click on favourites in top left corner (next to cart), and you will see the tab..I hope that helps, but if there is something in particular you are after I am more than happy to help you shop!

My big thing at the moment is Necklush - I''ve already purchased 2 and am about to place an order for more, they are a great accessory.

I love Etsy and am on it pretty much every day. I look for all kinds of things. I love bezel rings, so I browse those often. Purses, fabrics. I needed a new wallet, and found some fabrics I liked and had a seller make a wallet and zipper pouch. I got a couple checkbook holders w/old timey pictures and funny sayings on them, funny magnets from that seller too. I get the biggest charge out of Etsy, and almost all of the sellers are super friendly. Just ordered a custom wedding band. My ering is from a seller there. Handmade doll for my daughter and a monkey for me.

Ebay..I go in fits and spurts there. Never sold there, tho I''ve thought about it. And it changes constantly, what I''m looking for. I''ve gotten shark teeth earrings and a shark tooth pendant, a shark pendant carved from bone, clothes for my daughter, stuff for JD''s truck, books, curtains..all kinds of different things. I''m more leery there than I am at Etsy.

Here''s the latest result of my ebay addiction. Hehehe.

No.
I''ve never bought or sold on eBay.

Maybe I should.

No, but my DD has, and has gotten some great deals. Clothing mostly.

I buy a few things on ebay every so often. Mainly dresses. It''s much better value I find and I haven''t had a bad experience so far.

I used to get crazy jewelry deals a few years ago. Not so much anymore.

Could not but paste a link to an etsy store.

There is one ring there...I thin everyone will understand what I am talking about. It is on her home page.
