Between sentences do you use one or two spaces?
I'm a 1-Spacer myself.
(Actually on the Internet I usually put sentences on separate lines, but that's another thread.)

This article explains the reason for the current rule and why so many people violate it.

I love stuff like this.
The world is on the brink of self destruction from global warming, starvation, pollution, war, terrorism, racism, everything-ism, nuclear waste . . . but I'm interest in . . . spaces.

I'm a one-spacer. DH is a two-spacer, whenever I edit his papers I always want to do a mass find/replace

I'm a two-spacer but some software already has it built in so double-spacing because quadruple-spacing!

1-spacer, unless I'm specifically told to do 2 spaces.

I'm a one spacer. I never knew that you were supposed to do two spaces until the last thread about it.

Yup, we just had a thread on this.

I'm a two spacer.

I think I responded in the last thread, but I am a double spacer. It's how I was taught! :errrr: I guess I should start only doing a single space since BF is going to grad school for English.

Single spacer! Yet, I wonder how much of it is generational. I started out on a fancy ol' Apple 2GS which means never having used a typewriter.. I clearly remember being told multiple times in grade school about the two space rule, but it was rarely enforced and just never made sense to me. Every so often it slips into my mind, some vague memory about double spacing, good to know I can stop thinking about it all together now.

My apologies.

2-spacer.

I didn't see the last thread. How interesting, I had no idea two-spacing was obsolete and no longer used by most. I thought that it was the rule in the U.S. to double space! I think it was always single space in Europe...

ETA: I guess I'm going to try to turn into a consistent 1-spacer now!

Two spacer...out of habit. Never thought about it until now. I guess it all started in elem. school when we were asked to type our papers

double spacer. i don't know how to even begin changing the habit! i do remember seeing someone on my social network that shall not be named post this same article and it struck up quite a bit of debate! who knew people would be so defensive!

I used to put 2 spaces in between sentences but now I only do one.

Both DH and I are double-spacers. I don't think I could change to one-spacing because it's just habit... I don't even think about it when I'm typing.

2.
I am in grad school, and the style we must use requires 2.

I went to high school back in the 70s and took a typing class.
(I was the only guy in it, and also the only guy in the Home Economics (cooking) class too.)

We were taught to double space.
When I worked for a publisher about 15 years ago I was told to stop double spacing.
It took a long time to break the habit.

Today double spacing always catches my eye.
I wish misspelling did. :nono:

I like posting on PS. PS is fun. You get the idea.

This is the way I was taught to do it.

Not necessary! Just mentioned the first time I heard it, referring to the fact that I had JUST learned about it myself :D

I am a two spacer. It is what I learned in high school. My 16 and 18 year old daughters think I'm nuts. Haha

I'm like this as well. Sentences don't look right to me if there's only one space.

One spacer unless of course it's for school ;)

same here, but for some reason I turn it off when I am not writing a paper. Same for any grammatical skills I have and omgz i start to like totally write like thiz

was recently helping my 14 year old son edit a paper and I corrected him and told him he needed 2 spaces in between sentences. He then corrected me and told me "No mom, you are doing it wrong. Our teacher told us that only old people use 2 spaces! I emailed the teacher and she confirmed that kids are being taught to use only one space. I don't know if its a habit I can break! I went to high school in the '80s and learned to type on an IBM selectric and its SO ingrained in me two spaces after a period.

From what I have read on this post, it seems that those of us who are old enough to have learned on an actual typewriter are two spacers. And those who learned to type on computers are one spacers.

Two

One space. I have not seen anyone double space since high school. That was 2002.

I tried it both ways. I'm a one spacer. Two is just plain weird looking. Two are no longer needed since we are not using type-writers :D

ETA.. um...... PS must correct extra spaces? When this post is posted the sentences look the same, when they are in editing mode they are different.

olde tyme double spacer here...been working on my single spacing for about a year now. I didn't know double spacing was a thing of the past until I kept getting auto-corrected and my DH told me to stop doing it.

I was taught to two space. Is that wrong???

Technically, yes.

Read up on printing presses, movable type, and why the "double" space was used to begin with. It just simply doesn't apply anymore.
