We have a nice garden tub and decent countetops in the matser bath, but I hate the color/marbled pattern!

Instead of replacing the entire garden tub and countertop, I was wondering if resurfacing with another color is an option?

Any ideas/suggestions/feedback?

MIL did this at her mother''s. It looked good.

Thanks, Tacori, for the good feedback.

I''m having a hard time finding any information on the web about refacing, and personal feedback is reassuring!

I want to take the country outta the house (previous owners "country-fied" the house) and have a cleaner look like this

Metro, is it specifically the marble you don't like? I think the real culprit to your bathroom is the busy wall paper. Don't get me wrong, I'd kill to have a sunny, spacious bathroom like yours! But as you said, if your goal is to get rid of the "country" feel, I'd say attack the wall paper. Solid darker walls with strie (mini paint stripes) could totally modernize the space. It would probably be a much cheaper fix too!

Or for example, I think you could totally pull off this look by changing the wall color and replacing the shades with darker wooden ones, and adding some green towels/bath mats. It doesn't look too dark to me, and it would still be quite airy.

You could totally pull off a look like this with a bathroom like yours! (not the sitting area, but the color schemes) You already have the ivory marble, and gold hardware for the yellow tones. The white-toned bathroom you posted looks clean, but it would be hard to do with the gold you have for the shower. So why not use what you already have, and do minor fixes? Just a suggestion. If you don't like the darker colors, I'll look for something brighter. I just immediately thought of this look when I saw your bathroom!

This is a pic from the Pottery Barn a while ago.

And lastly, this is the stried wall that I was talking about, but I think the green/ivory/dark wood will work better with what you already have.

I agree with Onvacation. I don''t think the marble is the problem here. It looks pretty neutral. I''d take the wallpaper down, paint the vanity a nice crisp color, paint the walls and maybe change out the light fixture. The fan also could be easily replaced with something sleeker. I''m not digging the brass shower door and fixtures, but I wouldn''t start with those.

Thank you onvacation for the advice and the pictures!

I really like the Pottery Barn colors, but worry how that may flow into our master bedroom, which is connected to the bath.

Here''s a colage of what''s in our bedroom. We have greys, purples, white, and merlot stained furniture with brushed silver.

I agree 100%, sumbride! I HATE the wallpaper!!!!!!!!!!! HATE IT! And I don''t like the gold and brass fixtures either. I''m not a handy person and neither is DH, so whatever work to the bathroom would have to be contract. I wonder how expensive it would be to have someone remove the wallpaper, replace the shower and closet door (mirrow/w gold) and all the sink figures

Ohhhh, I''m scaring myself!

THIS IS COOOOL!!!! Where can I find something like this?

Another queston, onvacation and sumbride:

What color do you think I can pain the cabinets? They are the builders cabinets (20-years old). I wonder - do you think it''s possible to stain or would painting be best?

I can''t seem to navigate through the HGTV webiste!

I definitely agree that you need to paint and change out all the nasty brass/gold hardware. I love your bedroom furniture and color scheme--I think you should have the cabinets painted a dark espresso to match the furniture and then paint the walls the same color as the bedroom, but you could also paint them a purple color with white trim.

DH and I arent handy either so when I needed to have some small projects done I googled handyman services in my area and called several of them. Also ask your friends/neighbors for recommendations. Also a great website for ideas and advice is www.gardenweb.com they have a home forum with a bathroom section.

Here are some fun faucets...

Thanks for the sites, Appletini!

I love that bamboo faucet too! That is WAY urban-chic! LOVE IT!

Off to check that garden website!

I wouldn''t stain the cabinets unless you really want wood. I think they need to be painted. As for what color, that''s up to you. You could go light or dark. White? Black? Brown? What do you want? Honey colored wood isn''t sleek, so anything would be an improvement.

If you haven''t painted furniture before, you should probably practice on something small first, or have somebody else do it.

I changed a light fixture in one of our bathrooms and it wasn''t really all that hard. The wiring part was easy, but I had trouble getting it attached to the wall because I needed to move it slightly. So if you pick something the same shape, it''s easy!

I think the white marble looks fine. It is very neutral and could look quite sleek with a change in cabinets, wall coverings and hardware. If you want to "de-countrify" that wallpaper must go first, followed by the golden oak cabinets and gold/brass fixtures. I would paint the walls a color that coordinates with your bedroom colors (maybe a shade of gray or purple) and stain or paint the cabinets expresso or ebony and add some sleek brushed nickel knobs. I would also replace the existing light fixture, fan and faucets with brushed nickel. I''m not sure if there is a product you can use to paint the gold portion of the shower door silver/nickel, but it is worth looking into.

Thanks, Sumbride & Kay!

I do like that pic you posted, Kay. I want that look!

I was really examining the countertop and tub this morning to see what colors I can pull from them. They are a beige color, with gold and chocolate swirls - giving that marbled effect. I''m thinking brown would be the way to go for the cabinets.

Also, the bathroom floor tile has beige, brown, blush and blue hues in it, so I could tie in the blue and do a chocolate and blue color scheme.

I just wonder if the nickle hardware would totally clash with the gold flecks in the countertop and tub

Hmmmm...

Oh, and yes, Sumbride, I think there is a spray that can used over the gold closet door and shower. I saw it on HGTV once - when they paited a gold chandelier. I''m going to try to find more information on that.

I really appreicate all your ideas and suggestions - please keep them coming!!
