As with most things Lil Sis is a menace and is crazy about Labubu. She’s only managed to get one authentic one. They are so hard to get here and on principle we refuse to buy scalped goods so we’ve been venturing into Lafufu territory.

The lafufus are hilarious. You buy one off one of the Chinese platforms and you just kinda pray that it looks decent. Sometimes it does not look decent at all. The stores keep closing and switching around because China is cracking down on Lafufus. We have a lot of fun unboxing them though and we’ve been pretty lucky so far. Her Lafufus aren’t awful looking. Half the fun is dressing them up in different outfits so it doesn’t matter so much that we have Lafufus as long as they’re cute.IMG_2140.jpegIMG_2142.jpeg

I don’t have any but I’ve just bought one for my niece’s birthday- from a reseller so hoping against hope it’s a real one! Hopefully she’ll see the joke if not. I haven’t seen one in real life to know the difference.

@mellowyellowgirl, your thread was my introduction to Labubus and Lafufus. I had thought they might be some sort of rock when I started to read. Apparently there are authentic and inauthentic ones?

I don't get it,but ok. I even saw now that you can print on 3D printed ones

Labubu is authentic (right one) and Lafufu is the knock off (brown one).

They are fairly inexpensive just very hard to buy so we buy the knock off.

Same here. I'd never heard of them until this thread. I googled them and it seems Wal-mart has some authentic ones for a limited time. The article was posted Aug 13 so perhaps they already sold out. Seems like they are today's "Beanie Babies" where people go nuts for collecting them.

I have purchased for my brother. He loves them. I don't really understand the fascination.

My millenial daughters have them. Quite the obsession among them. One even took 5 of hers to a tattoo artist to tattoo their faces. Yes, you read that correctly. They aren't/can't have having kids, so they have disposable income.

Haha I have a drawer full of adorable wee clothes for my sister’s ones. I release them as random mini gifts to brighten her day.

Is it bad that I didn’t even bat an eyelid reading about the faces being tattooed? I’ve seen people get hair extensions for them

Ooh how old is he? My sister is a fully grown adult!

30! He loves them. Plus other plush things like Pokemon!

Is he into SkullPanda?

I bought mine an entire authentic SkullPanda L Impression (can’t spell it) box set since she’s obsessed with it. I’ve hidden it for Christmas. Then I bought her one SkullPanda Winter Symphony doll to throw her off the scent after vaguely expressing disapproval and telling her she needs to save for retirement one day. She was sooooo happy with that doll. Took it out with her friends. OMG it was hard work! I had an app, had to check notifications then ran like ghosts were after me to get to the shop and scored the second last fill box set.

That’s why I gave up on chasing Labubus which is even harder!

You know who does? My husband.

He bought a fake one at a gas station. He has it strapped onto his lunch backpack and that's where it lives. He did this initially to take the piss out of (and secretly support) his younger work buddy, whose little daughter insisted he take one to work and put it on his desk. She was worried if it was happy. My husband used to do something similar for our kids when they were little with their toys, years ago. He still has a few dragons and such to guard him, they've lived there for a good decade or more.

His friend sends pics to his daughter, to show her that her daddy's little dolly dementor wasn't lonely. They even staged them having lunch for her. His little girl was very happy.

I think they secretly love having toys to play with still.

Ooh would love to see a picture if you can manage one!

They are a good example of excellent marketing. Attach status by limiting production and people go nuts. I find them annoyingly ugly and can't wait for the trend to die. At least beanie babies were cute.
