I am so bad at parallel parking it''s shameful.

you know... i have a smart car.... and parallel parking isn''t too hard for me, but backing my smartie into a spot is hard for me! The wheel base is so short that I have a hard time to judge my lines... lol.

favorite parking is parallel for me. I like the challenge of trying to get in 3 points.

I am thinking of buying a 2010 Ford Escape and from what I have read it will parallel park for you.

I have not parallel parked since my driving test so I am pretty sure that I would do an awful job.

3 points is easy. Do it in 1 with an SUV, then we'll talk.

I learned to parallel park in a Chevy Suburban. After that, I can handle almost anything!

I will parallel park if necessary. I guess I learned correctly the first time around. DH will only parallel park if the space is large enough for a semi. DD (age 20) just took her driving road test last week, and successfully put it between the three poles on her second try. She has never done it with real cars, yet. Oh well, she has her license to drive now.

I learned how on an 18 foot long 1979 Cadillac. I can parallel park a dump truck if you want me to.

(N/M, don''t have my CDL...wouldn''t be legal.)

Bleah. I''ve yet to come across a situation where parallel parking was the only option....

..
maybe my "3 points" is wrong verbage.
1- Stop
2 - back up
3 - pull forward

I was really good at it when I was a teenager. Flash forward a few years. I had to park downtown for something, and was forced to parallel park my SUV. 1st time doing that in 8 years. The folks @ the store I was going to were all laughing pretty hard when I finally walked in. (and they informed me that there was plenty of extra parking in back, just fyi for next time)

Oh yeah, I don''t count "stop." Dunno what''s the right counting method, but it doesn''t matter I guess

Stop, back up.

Though I do love the ones that are big enough that you can just pull right in!

I cant parallel park at all!

DH lived on Lake Shore Drive for years while we were dating. We not only had to parallel park on a regular basis, we had to fight other Chicagoans for spots, *and* we had to park fast enough so the buses and taxis wouldn''t slam into us.

People are very impatient on the inner drive.

Now that I have a Honda Civic (instead of an SUV) parallel parking is nothing at all. The turning radius on my old Equinox was brutal.

lol.. that was great.

as i grew up in nyc, it would be horrible if i wasn''t good at it.

In fact, i can into the tightest spots with only a few inches left in front, and behind the car without a problem.

I remember the steps I learned in the 1970s in driver's ed.

1. Pull in as close as possible to the car in front of the parking space; your side mirrors should almost kiss.
2. Stop when the driver seats line up (the idea is to line up both rear bumpers so compensate if cars are different length).
3. Back up turning the wheel maximum clockwise, while watching clearance in your right rear view mirror.
4. When your head is even with their rear bumper straighten the steering wheel.
5. Just as the right corner of your front bumper clears their bumper turn steering wheel fully counter clockwise.

Following these steps I get it right the first time with no back and forth correction 90% of the time.
