anyone have a clip less curling iron? Like in the mall?

I just got one, not from the mall...a lot cheaper online...anyway..I've watched tutorials and can't seem to get the trick! I still have the end of my hair that isn't curing because I can't seem to get it on the barrel...the glove seems to only withstand the heat for a second or two. I can't seem to get my arms right doing it! Is there a learning curve?
