I just had mine and it was diabolical.

I was interviewed by my current supervisor and a Facilities Manager and they asked me about what I''ve done etc

Unfortunately, I am working in the Safety Engineering atm, and my qualifications is Process Engineer. In short, no improvement on the technical side eventhough my relationship development, professionalism, communications have improved.

This is really bumming me out.

The worst part was when they asked me technical design questions (which I had done and have experience with) but i totally blew it and my nerves got the better of me. I forgot EVERYTHING and answered the questions wrongly... Why do I have to remember stuff you can just look up in a book anyway?

Isn''t it enough that I have done these things before??? Obviously not. Stupid review.

Kinda, where I work your preformance is assessed on a monthly, six monthly as well yearly and I am still on probation so my final report is in the next couple of weeks

- apprently though I have passed.

That sucks Cindy but you likely did better it sucks when they put you on the spot like that the pressure unnerves quite a few, when do you get your results.

You must be kidding me...

The manager is writing the report now. Thankfully though, he HAS to be fair, the report can''t go through unless it has my signature on it.

He should finalise the report in 2 weeks time.

Nope I have two reviews this month my normal monthly and my final probation review - YAHAHA I kid you not.

On the upside it is good after the first few they aren''t as daunting and really you do know how and what you should be doing and what to improve on and if you have issues you can bring them up as well.

GL with your review, I am sure you will do fantastic :)

This is bringing bad memories of my current job (which I''m leaving in 2 weeks). And I''m a process engineer too

Heh. Reviews with my first manager were fantastic. She told me what I was doing well, told me what to improve on, it was easy and relaxed and I understood what my next steps were. Then I got a new manager and it turned into critisize Elrohwen time

No praise for anything and lots of "feedback" that was really nitpicky and kind of random. Like I might mess one thing up one time, and he would write down that it was a pattern of behavior but that he only had one example of it

I dunno. I just never knew what it was I really needed to do to get better next time. Or I would think I improved one area and he would just pick out a new one to focus on. It can be really rough if you don''t have a manager who''s not good at communicating.

Your review situation sounds like it sucks (yours too, Deelight!) and I totally feel your pain. Good luck!

I’ve never heard of a review where one is questioned about their technical competence like an examination. All my reviews are based on my performance on specific projects that I have undertaken. Don’t feel bad; I’m sure they understand that we are all human and sometimes nerves just get the better of us.
