According to the news it was a 5.8, which we haven''t had for a while now! Boy, things were shaking, and now cell phones aren''t working for us.

Oh, HELL yes I felt it - I was in the shower. I had to hold onto the walls. Wet and naked during and earthquake. Great.

My MIL called me (I am in northern CA right now) and said she was scared and it was very strong...she lives in Long Beach. She said it scared her and the dogs.

Watching it on CNN. They are saying it could be felt in Las Vegas? Not by me-thanks goodness.

Ninama in the shower? That would do me in.

I live in a top-floor, penthouse flat.

Yeah, I felt it.

I was in the office, and since we''re above a dry cleaner who has very loud and shaky operations, I figured it was that- until things began to ROCK! I was standing there going, "Man, I''m glad I''m on the second floor". Nothing worse than being alone, with your poor dog at home in his kitchen alone, with all sorts of cabinety stuff to fall on him. My poor baby!

Yep - that was my first one out here. Interesting. Going on my East Coast preconceptions, I wouldn''t have guessed that was a 5.8 ... good to know.

OH YES! Scared the bejessus out of me!!! Our whole building shook! Eeeekkkkk!

I am glad you are all OK!!!!! I live in Northern Calif and we have had our share up here.

No fun being in the shower Ninama

I had two concerns: 1) I''m all soapy. 2) I''d really like to feel this magnificent force without distraction!

It didn''t feel like the end was was nigh... I just wanted to surf the waves (which is what it felt like).

I''m about 10 miles from the epicenter, as the crow flies. Things REALLY shook here, for quite a while. Things went flying off my desk. There was a big long shake, about 10-15 seconds, then another 90 seconds or so of continued shaking. Luckily I live close to home and was able to run home and check on things. My things were thrown around and cabinet doors open, but nothing fell and my kitties are OK.

This is the scariest one we''ve had in a while...

Yep, that is what it feels like. I call it rocking and rolling. HA!!!

Yup, I''m at work in Costa Mesa about 35 miles from the epicenter. My first big SoCal quake in 8 years of living here!

I didn''t really know what to do, but we''re in a one-story building that''s seismically retrofitted, so there was no damage.
I always check this site: USGS Quake info

AmberWaves, this was the first one that spooked my dog.

FYI, nothing fell out of our kitchen cabinets here (the hills), so assuming your pup is at home somewhere on the Westside, odds are strong that nothing fell and he''s okay.

So was going to post this!!!

Everyone ok?

I felt it!!! It was too small and short for my liking. I like it when it is a little longer and we sway a little more. I'm in San Diego. SDL didn't feel it at all. I love earthquakes as long as there is only a little rock and roll going on and it lasts no longer than 5 seconds.

ETA: Wow, I can't believe it made national news. It sure didn't feel like a 5.8 down here. That's crazy. That is a pretty good size quake.

I''m a big baby I have only felt one earthquake (I think it was the JoshuaTree Quake) & I thought I was going to die- It was the worst feeling.

OMG are you guys crazy????

These things scare the CRAP out of me! I''ve been here 12 years but this is the biggest one I''ve felt. I guess I''m just inexperienced earthquaker! lol...

Oh gosh, I hope everyone is okay and same with your families.

That is what it sure feels like to us when we DH and I are sitting down in our chairs. Rocking and Rolling.

And believe me, we have felt some major earthquakes here in Northern California. The big one in 1989, which was a whopper!!!

Yep. I was rockin' and rollin' in Beverly Hills. It was big. Didn't scare me though - don't know why. Wondering if I should go home and check on the kitties.

Miracles: Ha ha ha ha. You sound like my DH. He likes the rock and roll

They totally scare me, too. Even as a kid, I''d run into the hallway and ball up. Today was the first time there was a largish earthquake and I was alone. Didn''t help that all our cell phones were down, too. Bummer.

And: much rather have a short jolt than a long hard wave! DH came home early and checked on the pup, and he was buried under his blanket.

Natives don't get as nervous as transplants do, and understandably so.

We shook for sure, but they don't faze me unless I have a hard time keeping balance and can't run for cover.

As we califonians say, we don't get out of bed for anything less than a 6.

Ahhh! Glad to hear all you CA-ns are okay!

We had a very rare earthquake earlier this year in Indiana and everyone freaked out!
23.gif

I did, I work in Downtown LA in a tall building. It lasted about 10-15 seconds for us, as the building swayed a bit. I cried under my desk, because the last earthquake I experienced was the 89 one, where our house was nearly destroyed, and a family member was on the bridge...so I have bad earthquake memories. I am now embarrassed by my reaction
5.gif

My friend works on the 44th floor in Downtown...she really was afraid. Poor thing
7.gif

Apparently, we''ve just been downgraded to a 5.4 ....

As long as it could be guaranteed that no one got hurt and no major damage - I''d like it to rock and roll and wave and sway and swing and lift and fall for much much longer. I thouroughly enjoy earthquakes. Of course I''ve only endured two with no bad associations.

I was in coastal in my house! Hey I was naked too! Right now I have food poisoning from a local place (yuck won''t get into that)and I was in the tub trying to relax and feel better cause I feel really rotten. Anyways everything starts shaking and I felt like I was in a cocktail shaker. And I''m thinking oh great that''s just awesome naked during an earthquake CLASSY. Yeah my days really lookin up
20.gif
!

I feel much better to know that I was not the only one. Its funny I always thought that it would be really unfortunate to happen to be naked during an earthquake. I was right it is.
