Hubby is a first and second generation Camaro nut, and our family currently has one '72 hardtop on a spit, and a '68 convertible in the house garage. I think the '68 is going to get finished a lot faster than we thought it would, and we're aiming to have her on the road by early May. It's not a RS or SS, but it's 99.9% original, numbers matching with the power top option and a 2-speed Powerglide automatic. I'm really excited because that's going to wind up being the car I get to drive on nice days when hubby is at work and the kids are in school. :naughty:

Who else likes restoring classic cars?

i love "ORIGINAL" classic muscle cars from the 60's to early 70's.in the past i owned two 70 Camaro RS/Z28. talk about horse power,it came with a 350 CID /360 HP engine. even the exhaust smells different burning high octane gas. one was an automatic (the green car) with 58k original miles. the other one was copper color, 4 sp with only 9,600 original miles on the OD and had been featured in three car magazine articles. i sold it too cheap to a gentlemen who flew in from NY to Ca. just to see the car he then bought my car on the spot.

my list of DREAM muscle cars.

70 Chevelle SS LS-6 454 cid
69 Camaro RS/Z28 with 4 wheel disc brake option
69 RS Camaro with ZL-1 all aluminum 427 cid engine option
69-70 Hemi Cuda or 440 6 Packs (panther pink color)
69-70 GTO Judge
73-74 Trans Am 455 Super Duty with a 4 Speed.
Any chevy Yenko super cars.
Any Big block convertible muscle cars with lots of HP.

some pics of my 70 RS/Z28 Camaros...

Nope- but my uncle does- he restored a 68 chevelle which was his first car

OMG the brown one looks like the '72 we just sold! The next project is a '72 Z28. It's been in the driveway for about a year now, as we wanted to work on the other one first (the one on the spit, not the '68 which just came along in January) so that hubby and Awstin (our 14-year-old) can hone their welding skills first). The Z is Sequoia Green with the white rally stripes and Parchment interior. At one point we had five Camaros on the property. I told hubby if he wanted the '68 he had to make room.

Last night we got the front subframe half sandblasted, and got the lower control arms off the old frame. Now we have to figure out how to get the balljoints out without having to take them to a machine shop. The more we can do ourselves, the less we'll have to spend (and you know how expensive restorations can be)!

LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!!

See DF- I knew we had something ( other than our initials) in common!

BUT- I will introduce an alternative idea.
Yes, the Camaro was an incredible sports car.
But did you know that the 1969 Cadillac had more horsepower?

I associate them with using more gas than necessary to get from point A to B, and America having to colonize oil-rich countries at the expense of many innocent lives.

But hey, people vary.

That said I do think the Corvettes look awesome.
No joke.
I'd never buy such a car, but they look cool.

Yes Kenny, but we did have John Wayne......

DF-That minty mint Camaro was amazing......

BUt another kewl thing about Caddies is that although they sold for double the price of a Camaro way back when, they're way less than half the price for a great example today.

I LOVE  the mid 1960's Mustangs! (Does that count as a muscle car?)

I've always wanted a 1967 Red convertible with a two-tone red and white interior. :appl:

1967, because that's when they had factory air. Which I need.

I love the sound of a big block engine, a VROOM, VROOM while waiting at a stop light.

Awesome!

I never had an appreciation for cars prior to dating a guy in SoCal. On one of my trips down he took me to see the regular summer Friday night car show in Escondido and OMG I was hooked for life!

Every time I see a muscle car converted so that it has an open engine bay and the new engine block obstructs 90% of the forward facing view, I laugh for a good 2 mins.

Never gets old. Classsic restorations... that's something else. Nice! Too bad we can't have them here.

No cal-induction scoop crap here! We're going for as original as possible, except we're doing a disc brake conversion for safety. The drum brakes just heat up too much, and there are a lot of winding mountain roads around here. I don't even think we're putting stripes on her. Just a nice plain ermine white, black interior, and only one mirror on the driver's door.

I got some more parts sandblasted tonight, which was fun since it was my first time working with the booth. More to do tomorrow.

but the Cadillac came with a big block 455 cid? ...the 70 Z 28 came with a small block 350 cid with 360 hp...

My DH had a 69 Camero when we were in high school. He is so mad he sold it still. We don't own any muscle cars but my husband is involved in a men's bible study and after the study all the men work on 'rat rods'. Evidently it is a big thing where we live, so much so that the men's bathroom at our church has a classic car engine in it as a decoration! I haven't seen it, but that cracks me up.

I didn't know this but 'rat rods' are muscle cars that have been fixed up using non original parts.
