anyone else dealing with infertility?

I am beginning to think that this thread is more for me as time marches on.....

Got AF today. That''s 22 day cycle, 22 day cycle, and 25 day cycle for last 3 months.

Had LH surge each month.

Anyone know a good Dr. in OC, California?

I heard of a Dr. Werlin.

I don''t have an MD for you in CA but just wanted to add no way would I wait 6 months if you are 39. I wouldn''t wait at all. Go straight to a good reproductive endocrinologist. Hopefully it will just happen but don''t waste a minute counting on that.

I have my own saga with infertility (another thread). I wouldn''t wish it on anyone.

AHG - thanks for the support I was thinking the same thing myself.

Couple of details: had 10 cm cyst removed from Rt. ovary in 2006 and got preggers 4 months later - YAY.

After Olivia was born 4/4/07 lost 40 lbs. from stress (dad had 11 hospitalizations and died in Nov.).

Started AF after 3 months post-partum (reg. 26 day cycle until last 4 months - 30 day, 25 day, 22 day, 22 day).

Had LH surges each time, thought I felt mittleschmirtz, sometimes EWCM.

Guess I better book and appt. and start on the bloodwork or something.

AHG UPDATE:

Fate works in strange ways.

I was out w/ Olivia and the kindermusik teacher called to schedule stuff.

Anyway, I knew she went through IVF and had twins recently so I asked her about a Dr.

I called him (reproductive endocrinologist) and they told me they didn''t have an appt. until July!!!!!!!!!!!

So I pleaded my case & went into much detail. She was taken aback and said she''d speak to the Dr. directly to get me in sooner.

10 mins. later she called and I have an appt. next week!!!!!! Wed. - I said am I that much of a basket case?

She said no but that I have very convincing issues that need to be evaluated right away.

The consult is $260. Ouch, but he''ll do an ultrasound and at least get the ball rolling.

At 39 it''s best to get going.................We are 0 for 3 cycles and the clocks a tickin''

Hi AGBF,

Meeting w/ RE was overwhelming but necessary.

Essentially I have one functional ovary (rt) w/ 7 antral follicles and surprise a 20 mm follicle about to burst! Rt ovary is empty

.BD happening as soon as DH drives back to town.

There is some uterine calification (he said no big deal) but still had concerns over tubal blockages or any scarring/adhesions so suggested an HSG.

Additionally he recommended Clomid cycle w/ IUI. He was overall optimistic and suggested that since my mother had her last child at 42 that did bode well for me.

However she didn''t have a creepy 10 cm alien cyst growing in her and a bum ovary.

It is a relief to have a dx and game plan. If we don''t get pregnant this cycle we may start Tx next cycle.

BTW: thank you for the support and kind thoughts in the other post - I was simply so surprised by the reception I got over there.

I know those women have been in the thick of battle for a while but jeez......

He also confirmed that those w/ 2ndary infertility have higher rates of success than primarys and he rattled off a list of reasons.

Hi, Lisa-

I suggest you go with the two things your doctor says above rather than dwelling on the things that have made you less fertile than your mother to date. The reason you saw the specialist was because you weren't as fertile as women who keep having babies by mistake, right? Believe me, I am not minimizing! I just think you have every reason on earth to be positive if the specialist is being positive!

I lost my left ovary (and all the trimmings), but by then I had already adopted. The shape of my left ovary shed some light on why it had probably been hard for me to get pregnant. (It was a mess.) After it was removed, although I was 42, more than one GYN warned me to be careful or I could easily become pregnant. I said if I did, it would be welcome, though. I had adopted at 41. Having a second one at 42 or 43 wouldn't change my life in any negative way!

Thanks for sharing your history AGBF (love the cello pic BTW - I have one but can''t play it well). Sorry to hear about your lost ovary. I never really thought/worried about reproduction until it was threatened. I guess most of us spend so much energy trying not to get pregnant for most of our lives.

So my follicle is probably 22-24mm and has left by now, or tomorrrow, I have been so tired last 2 days.

Here''s to hoping nature does its thing with no obstacles.

It almost seems like all the planets have to align for preg. to happen.

I''m still on the fence on when we should start IUI Tx. Next cycle or after that?

It has a 25% success rate apparently. Seems kinda low.

Hi, Lisa (et al)-

I was delighted to lose that ovary! I had to beg my GYN to go in and either remove the cyst (which wouldn''t resolve) or the ovary (depending on what he saw once he got in there). He had been watching the cyst with ultrasound for months and I was convinced I had cancer! I had dropped down to 120 lbs and was a nervous wreck. My daughter was an infant. I really didn''t need to be worried sick! (I was no longer trying to conceive.)

Since my GYN knew I was no longer trying to conceive, after the oophorectomy I think he was just afraid that an unplanned pregnancy would have been unwelcome...but it would not have been. I think that at 42 it would have been OK for me.

At any rate, since I wasn''t trying to conceive I no longer needed the ovary. The photo is of my daughter when she was 10. She is now 15 and no longer plays the cello, but she played for five years. I know that John Pollard thought that that photo was me, but I am not nearly as musical as my daughter. She also played the clarinet and the saxophone in the school band. After stopping cello in the seventh grade, she switched to violin. Her first instrument was piano. She quit that and claims she wants to return to it, but whether she will remains to be seen. She has a lot of musical ability, but she doesn''t practice. If one doesn''t practice, taking music lessons is, unfortunately, just a waste of time. She is a lovely dilettante, but a dilettante nonetheless!!!
