Wanna tell me about it?

We''re going for our honeymoon in about two weeks, and I want to know all I can about the island...

So, if you''ve gone - what did you love? what did you dislike? what would you recommend we do while we''re there?

I''ve done some research, but asking those who know is always my preferred option....

Thanks!

I studied abroad there in college, so I was there for about 4.5 months. It''s been a while, so let''s see what I can remember...

Things to do...
Oistens fish fry on Friday nights (I think, maybe it was saturdays).
The boatyard was a fun beach, but you had to pay to get in.
Definitely take a tour of the island, sugar plants, and the west coast where the beaches are rocks, etc.
North Point.
Walk through the capital "city" of Bridgetown
Maybe take a tour of the University of the West Indies

Things to remember...
Most of the beaches, even those by the really swanky hotels, are public down by the water, so you get all kinds of peddlers and people.
There are a few different forms of public transportation. The govt. run buses are a good way to get around, but the ZR vans are privately owned, and they compete over picking up people so often speed and pass each other crazily (with music pounding and neon lights flashing, often with the drivers smoking or drinking...).
They rent these cars called Mini Moaks to tourists that are really not safe, so be careful if you are driving, and it''s the opposite side of the road there! (we''d often see mini''s crashed on the side of the road).
It''s a developing country, so although the hotels/touristy areas are gorgeous, if you go a mile or so inland, you will be confronted with poverty.
Bargain, bargain, bargain! You will stand out as a tourist, so there is a definite inflation level.

Where are you staying???

We hung out mostly on the west coast of the island, and that is where I think the nicest beaches were, but there were also some nice ones towards the south.
